I mean he swam through a river and got his friends body back cause he made a promise and was HELL BENT on keeping that promise. Gus and Call was total opposites but best of friends. BROTHERS really. Both men knew the other like the back of their hand. But even Gus as badass as he was knew that of Call goes ballistic you best get the fuck out of calls way and literally rope him lmao. I always thought that was funny. "WOODROW.. WOODROW... ITS GUS. ITS JUST GUS WOODROW" and Call had them crazy ass killer eyes. That man whipped on the wrong kid that day.
This is undoubtedly one of the best miniseries/movies ever. For those of you who haven’t read the Pulitzer Prizing winning book, it is a must read. For those of you who have, I think you’ll agree it should be a must read for juniors or seniors in highschool and definitely a must read for college history classes. God bless everyone.
Absolutely one of the best movies ever made. The whole cast was excellent and I’ve this movie over 4 times and I never get tired of it. It had its sad moments and was a tear jerker. I love the whole cast it was superb.
I fast forward through the cow scenes sometimes and go straight to all of the Gus scenes for sure 😂 I’ve watched it a couple more times than 4 😂🤷🏻♂️❤️
@@davidmorris5555I’m the same. Me and my dad watched this together when it was first broadcast as 4 chapters. I was only 10 but I remember every day being excited for the night to come and the next part of lonesome dove to be on. Great memories
@willdenoble1898 what a weirdo! LOL! How in fuk could you hate a character like Deets? You've never been in harms way before with an even, loyal, and loving partner Like Deets around! They are a God send! Most of us don't deserve a Deets! But when you've been in mortal danger with a guy like that in your corner I don't even have words....! 🙏💔✝️ Shame on you.... lol
When Gus died was the first time I cried from a show. Then it was the end on Glory and I got "misty" at the end of 8 Seconds. But, Gus dying tore me up (I was like 8).
I love the scene where Woodrow sees Newt being assaulted by the Union Tracker. He basically loses his mind in rage. "I hate rude behavior in a man. I won't tolerate it!" If we had men like Woodrow and Gus walking our streets today, America would be crime free and Southern Gentlemen would be everywhere keeping the peace.
was in the woods of alaska watchin it around the clock. probably saw it over a hundred times best western ever made. i can fly an old woman taught me 👍
As a kid growing up in rural Texas I new many men that walked, talked and carried themselves very much the same as Gus and Woodrow. They were men of character! All very interesting and resourceful men.
Playing Capt Caul was Tommy Lee Jones best role. His presence and mannerisms was second to none... in the sequel John Voight was excellent but it just wasn't the same. In my book Jones is top 5 all time actor. what a classic series this was.
Absolutely THE best movie of all times. It has everything you can ask for in a movie. I had this movie memorized in the 90's and still watch it today. "The only healthy way to live as I see it is to learn to like all the little everyday things"!!!! Truth for me
When Call tries to make Gus cut the other leg, Gus draws on him and says "Call I'm the only one you cant tell what to do" the look on Calls face when he realizes its over is so heart wrenching
Makes me think of when my best friend died, we watched these a few times together. I had frog legs and fish with his son last Friday. We had many adventures together much the same.
Now, if they could JUST MAKE Blood Meridian into a mini-series or a movie. Conpletely different tone tho. Its got a very violent and cold feelin to it. I mean The Judge was a fuckin prick in that one.
Tommy Lee Jones' best performance ever. Robert Duvall's best performance ever. Robert Urich's best performance ever. Danny Glover's best performance ever. Diane Lane's best performance ever. Rick Schroder's best performance ever. Chris Cooper's best performance ever. The casting was perfect.
They lost me after Gus died and Call was replaced. I watched the 2nd, it was ok but that was as far as I wanted to go. The original was awesome and the best imho.
Read and visit the real Lonesome Dove story of Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving. Visit the fort where Goodnight (Call in the movie) was sworn in as a Texas Ranger. Visit Loving’s (Gus’s) grave in Weatherford. Ikard (Deets) is buried there too.
Oliver loving and Charles goodnight,, This world could use more men like the ones Tommy Lee Jones “Woodrow F call and Robert Duval “Augustus McCrae portrayed in this masterpiece of a movie/mini series
Best cowboy movie I've ever watched, so, so real.
You're right...
If you haven’t read the Pulitzer Prize winning book, do so. It is unbelievably well written.
@@nmelkhunter1 Thanks for your kind reply, may God bless you.amen.
no thats Bandidas with Selma Hayek
@@lennarthagen3638 But yet Lonesome Dove is based on, and closely follows, a Pulitzer Prize winning book of the same name. Interesting.
There was never better casting than this. Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones were born to be Gus and Woodrow.
I am not ashamed to say I cried like a baby through this scene - the first time, and every time since.
Call was a true friend to Gus.... no doubt about that....
We all need someone like that in our lives….and death.

Without question the very best cowboy movie ever ! Hands down bar none !!!
Best novel I’ve ever read and best movie I’ve seen. They don’t create masterpieces like this anymore.

We watch it at least once a year like "It's a Wonderful Life"
So sad when Gus died. But it sucked when Deets was killed....he was so true
“I don’t want to start to think, about all the things we SHOULD OF done for this good man”

Cried at 12 first time this scene hit me. Seriously felt like I lost a best friend.
I too cried for 3 days straight.
On the way to his funeral he showed up and I passed out.
When Gus died was the first time I cried from a show. Then it was the end on Glory and I got "misty" at the end of 8 Seconds. But, Gus dying tore me up (I was like 8).
My favorite scene, sad but Capt. Call was a man of his word, truly a good friend, they talked crap to each other but would have killed for each other.
I love the scene where Woodrow sees Newt being assaulted by the Union Tracker. He basically loses his mind in rage. "I hate rude behavior in a man. I won't tolerate it!"

Probably the best mini-series of the eighties! Larry McMurtry wrote one of the best western drama's ever when he wrote the lonesome dove books!

All time favorite movie. I've watched it at least 100 or more times and still watching it over n over again... Better than what is on TV to this day

when your best friend has a last request. he fully knows it will suck for you to do. but he also knows you will do it. because you are best friends.
Not necessarily will it "suck."
😢 Cal should have told Newt he was his son 😢 I have this movie and been watching it off and on all week 😊
He acted like he was his kin! Haha yep I agree, but you know Woodrow.
I hope Tommy Lee Jones regrets not playing Capt Call in part 2 every night before he goes to bed. Lonesome Dove was his best movie.
To this day my father refuses to watch after Gus dies
Woodrow, it's been quite an adventure,..
That’s close enough haha ❤️
👍Best ever
Just watched it again….
I watch it a lot just to hear Gus’s “mottos”❤

How much do you care about your best friend?😮
I thought Newt was already dead?
