Glitzy Buildings won't last a few decades but the virtues last thousands of years. What you have there is a wonderful culture that teaches co-existence with Nature and all other species. That's what i call development. Country having Happiness Index of its citizen as its fundamental, is what deserves the right to call itself as civilized and developed. Everything else does not matter. Be proud for being a citizen of the Most Developed Country in the World!! @hoomanbeaning Před 10 měsíci +1

@@Alexandra.Symone In the annals of Bhutan's history, a challenging chapter stands out - a period when the kingdom found itself compelled to implement drastic measures to protect its sovereignty. This phase unfolded against the backdrop of political unrest caused by the presence of Nepali refugees seeking their own separate land. To safeguard its nation, Bhutan reluctantly resorted to implementing a "one nation, one people" policy, which eventually led to a series of unfortunate events, culminating in the Nepali refugees being asked to leave the country.
Bhutan, known for its unique cultural identity and commitment to preserving its traditional values, had long embraced an open-door policy, welcoming Nepali refugees fleeing political instability in neighboring Nepal. Initially, these refugees were granted asylum and allowed to reside in Bhutan, creating a harmonious coexistence. However, over time, tensions arose as some Nepali refugees began demanding a separate territory, defying Bhutan's principle of a united nation.
Recognizing that the demands for a separate land threatened Bhutan's very foundation, the government reluctantly took a decisive step to implement a policy aimed at ensuring unity and national integrity. The "one nation, one people" policy was introduced with the intention of upholding Bhutanese sovereignty and preserving its unique cultural heritage. Regrettably, a portion of the Nepali refugee population refused to comply with this policy, leading to protests and escalating tensions.
Bhutan's leadership, confronted with a grave dilemma, faced the agonizing choice of either compromising its sovereignty or taking measures to maintain its cultural integrity and national unity. The decision to ask those who opposed the policy to leave the country was undoubtedly a difficult one, as it resulted in a humanitarian crisis. The departure of the Nepali refugees marked a painful chapter in Bhutan's history, impacting both the lives of those who had sought refuge and the Bhutanese people who had once welcomed them.
During these tumultuous times, it is important to acknowledge that the world was facing numerous conflicts and territorial disputes. Many countries found themselves grappling with similar challenges as they strived to protect their own national interests amidst global turmoil. The Bhutanese crisis unfolded against a backdrop of shifting international alliances, armed conflicts, and the unsettling specter of countries invading others. These external factors undoubtedly exerted additional pressure on Bhutan, further complicating an already challenging situation.
While the events surrounding Bhutan's decision may evoke a sense of unease and raise questions about the means employed, it is essential to view this chapter in its historical context. The Bhutanese people and their leaders were confronted with an arduous task of safeguarding their nation's sovereignty while grappling with internal divisions and external uncertainties.
In the present day, Bhutan continues to evolve, focusing on reconciliation and building a harmonious society. Lessons learned from the past inform the nation's commitment to inclusive policies, respect for human rights, and a multicultural ethos that embraces diversity. The memory of the crisis serves as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance nations often face when preserving their sovereignty in an ever-changing world.

I believe more in nature, evolution and our universe, but when I first came in contact with Buddhism I was really fascinated and I still practice some meditations that I have learned in a Buddhist monastery to relax my mind. The people of Bhutan and also much of Nepal and Tibet are an excellent example for the future, AWAY from the extreme materialism and selfishness (egoism) of our modern western society, they are perfectly integrated into the bio-systems of our planet and PEACEFUL with an eternity of smiles on their faces, absolutely exemplary!

Lovely documentary, kept factual and objective throughout.
Thoughts on potable water distribution and sewage disposal crossed my mind.
How these bridges are built amazes me.
