- World's Most Dangerous Roads: Deadliest Journeys in Vietnam in 2015
Deadliest Roads - Congo: • Video
We are in the Quan Hoa mountains in the Northwest of Vietnam. It is one of the poorest and most isolated regions in the country. Here, most of the inhabitants live on less than a dollar a day. However, this province possesses an inexhaustible treasure: bamboo. Or as the Vietnamese refer to it “green gold”. Some of this bamboo is transported on rafts… Makeshift crafts, assembled in just a few hours, are sent down the twists and turns of the tumultuous river Luong.
This region is also the only region in the country where the roads are not asphalted. During the rainy season, which lasts around three months, parts of the region’s commerce is paralysed. Even 4x4s and trucks can’t handle it… The only engine capable of manoeuvring the roads is Van Ly’s “Tuk Tuk”.

We’re in Vietnam 🇻🇳 today. A beautiful, majestic place.
But if you're not used to it, there are some hurdles...
climate: sticky sweaty hot all the time. Day and night.
Rainfall: a lot especially during monsoon
Roads: Vietnam is mostly hilly, mountainous geologically so in some regions, the term 'road' is a bit of a stretch.
A special mention to the film crew responsible for this amazing documentary ( you rock) and of course respect and admiration to the people who live and work in such extreme surroundings all their lives: you are awesome, resilient, kind, welcoming. We'll remember you always.
Enjoy!
Great words my friend, keep up the great work, you and your crew 😉😉
Awesome upload, thank you!

Forrest gump already described how Vietnam was
It gets quite cold in winter in northern Vietnam, more so in the highlands. Even snow. In southern Vietnam, the Central Highlands where Dalat is, this region stays cool virtually year round. There are highlands in central Vietnam as well where Ba Na Hills is located. Coastal cities such as Danang and NhaTrang is quite comfortable and breezy.
Vietnamese and Filipino people are some of the hardest workers I have met. I worked for a roofing company with a 50 year old Vietnamese man and a 45 year old Filipino we would normally work 8 hours a day and the Filipino and the Vietnamese men always wanted to work 12 to 14 hours, they said 8 hours is just a warm up for them, so our boss allowed them to stay longer and they would sometimes work for 16 hours or until police came and told them to stop working because people were complaining that there is someone working on the roof at 10 or 11pm. The Vietnamese man saved up to $100,000 dollars a year which just blew our mind, all he would eat is boiled eggs, bread and some vegetables, but we would sometimes buy him some good lunch and he would chase us around with money to pay us back but we never took money from him. After working for 3 and half years he went back to Vietnam with almost $300,000 dollars in savings. He sent us pictures of the amazing house he built and the brand new car he bought in Vietnam, he sent his children to good schools and he keeps inviting us to Vietnam and I might just take him up on that offer after this covid-19 craziness is over.
Agree, wonderful people. Us Norwegians used to be this hardy and hard-working as well, I'm sure, but then we found oil and got lazy :p .
Very accurate of middle life Vietnamese people. Hardworking, sacrifice several years abroad doing any kind of job to help family back home. The younger generation is not as hard working as their parent anymore.
Damn, 300K. He's ballin' for sure
Very interesting what you say

Whenever I am having a "bad day" I remember these videos, and soon realize my "problems" are minimal compared to some of these people's problems:) Thank you for the great documentaries!
Vietnamese people are the most hardworking and caring people I have met in my adventures so far. I stayed a few months between various different cities including Hanoi, Da Lat, Da Nang, Saigon, Vinh Long.. every place I visited was a bit different than the last but they all shared those same principles. I will gladly return to Vietnam when I can. There is so much to see, do, and learn if you are willing to take risks.
Are these risks calculated
They are all hardworking people with the toughest job but they still smiling... They are the real heroes...
True
Muhammad Faizal .... No, they're hard working people with good attitude, not heroes. And by the way, they had the same smile while sticking a bayonet in your belly
That was a trade mark of southeastern Asian country..
They are very hard working people. Sold 200 fish traps for $6.25. And they were happy doing it.
“CULTURES”
Until you ignorant people understand cultures, you shouldn’t be negatively commenting on educational videos. In reality, the majority of the world lives a harsh life. We “The Privileged ones”, should be positive that we do have an easier way and respect the other ways.
And plz, leave politics out of this.
true they are.
I said it before but I'll say it again, "Better than Hollywood movies" as they shows us the harsh life of different race and culture
Thank you very much!
I agreed
It’s free too!
😂 True
"different cultures". There's no such thing as race. It's a made up term by racists. There is no genetic code for a race. Certain alleles are turned on or off. Every human have these types of "racially defining" alleles. If it were possible, you could turn these alleles on/off to make a normally white person look completely subsaharan African in utero.
Have been to Vietnam several times, it’s an amazing country with friendly people, great food with lots of things to do and places to see. It’s cheap with a tropical climate and getting around is a breeze. The pandemic has hit the region hard and I would strongly encourage the people watching this to make this magical country your next destination.
They are heavily dependent on tourism and you would be contributing to the recovery of their economy and have a great time in the process.
I have traveled the world and this is one of my top five destinations…you won’t regret the experience I guarantee it.
Safe travels everyone ✈️

The guy crossing the rope knowing he could die at any moment just to feed his family got me.
Seems crazy he didn't have a simple waist harness with a short line and climbing clip he would only have to remove it when he passed the vertical support ropes for a few seconds
And did you notice that they walk in their flip flops... Freaking flip flops. I trip and fall wearing those on a straight road and they're maneuvering flimsy and slippery tree trunks in them.. Incredible.
I slip and fall over my own 2 feet with just socks on, so i couldnt imagine doing this in flip flops.
"Vietnam is a tiger and it is about to wake up and roar". Very well said. Vietnamese people have endured many challenges. They are used to hard-work and work together for common goals. I left VN 45 years ago. I came back twice and I love what is happening there. Love the people and the delicious foods. DaNang is my home town. Thanks for sharing this beautiful video.👍👍👍👍👍
Let's just hope it's not Chinese money paying for the improvement

Thx Hope & wish you doing well. Love from Hungary & from canada.Stay healthy & strong.☝️👍👍💖🏖️🌄😂
yes yes very good.
@SFD who taught you that? Our ancesters used to live in Southern China then moved to the current land. Though there are total of 1000 years enslaved by the ancient Chinese but we don't used the same language, the old language is figurative and look similar because we were forced to learn Chinese in that time but we improve another language based on it, modern Vietnamese using latin letters. However, there are some ethnic minorities imigrated from China years ago. The people selling bamboo in this video is from H'mong (Meo) ethnic group and Hoa ethnic group in Ho Chi Minh city is originally from China.

They are consistently among some of my best employees.
They face every task, no matter how big, with a can do attitude.
They often come up with ingenious solutions to problems that make work go smoother and faster.
They are also some of the most generous and kind hearted people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with.

Vietnam has some of the best coffee in the world and some of the friendliest people.
Ha Long Bay is one of the most beautiful place I have ever been.
Riding through Vietnam at the beginning of 2020 was the best time of my life. I remember seeing those bamboo bongs a bunch and wanted to try it. One day I eventually saw a bunch of guys sitting around and I asked if I could hit it and they welcomed me to go for it. For some reason I thought it was weed because I was too far to smell it when I saw it originally. I took a big rip and it just killed me when the eventual tobacco hit. We all started laughing, but my throat was dying there for a good minute. They're all so nice and welcoming.

It's a shorter distance, but it's slower than riding the bicycle. He was probably very tired of pedalling
It's a long cut lol
Whats the purpose of short cut if it takes longer.. Fook shortcut🤣🤣🤣
no.. makes him slower..
I lived in the Philippines when I was younger. SE Asia is beautiful. Visiting Thailand I was overwhelmed by how many shades of green there are. Literally my eyes and senses were overwhelmed. I wish before I pass to see that beauty again. Thank you to the producers and crew for this fantastic documentary.
If you guys want to walk on one of the most dangerous roads, try crossing any roads in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh city. And yes, honking is everywhere.
Thanks for making this insightful documentary about Vietnam. As a Vietnamese I feel fun and surprise at a same time.
I done that around 2001 - Still call it Saigon as most of my relatives on my wife's side. Crossing the street is like playing the video game Frogger

Nope its nothing to significant. These type of vehicles exist in every poor 3rd world country. These engines r cheap and low rpm engines r hard to breakdown & the torque with heavy reduction gear is enough for an offroad vehicle.
It's not a generator it's an engine of a power tiller

And they are CoVid free now. With zero new cases for the last weeks. Total of just over 300 cases with no death. The had removed covid restrictions except the boarders are still closed.

For South and SE Asia, bamboo is the gold. It is used in everything, from your home to making things for the market. Without bamboo 80*/* of the people would not be able to survive. Most importantly, bamboo is eco friendly and grows fast. It can be harvested every 3 years. Compare that with timber which takes a minimum of 25-30 years. So as I said, bamboo is the gold mine for us

That homemade truck reminds me of an army light transport truck used during the war known as a "Mule". An ingenious little micro truck that could operate in the bush hauling everything from food to guns and rocket launchers. I really admire the ingenuity of people like that Vietnamese tuktuk operator. He built it in his shed and now he uses it to feed his family.
We Americans are so spoiled. We take things like cars and roads for granted.
True
Great design too. Looks like it's really an older frame with a generator engine rigged to it. I'm surprise they don't design and sell something like that over there.
The same kind of ingenuity existed in the US once, which led to refined cars and also roads. A lot of work for generations later to be spoiled.
Perhaps many do, but who are you to use the phrase "We Americans"? That's just a dumb generalization. Speak only for yourself and the people you know. You have no idea what people you've not met value and appreciate.
I'm a road worker. Roads don't build themselves. People build roads.
People also build cars.
In the USA, we have a saying, work smart, not hard.
The work gets done faster and more efficiently.
For all the effort and danger, surprisingly little work is being done.
Find a better way to do things...
As a Vietnamese myself, I can say that the translators are taking more than a few liberties
We say thanks to this guys from vietnam who have accepted and adapted to there enviroment and way of survival.

I visited Vietnam for the first time back in 2007. We were driving to my grandmas home in Nha Trang. Our taxi driver was aggressive driver and hit a guy in a bike.
