India continues to compare itself to China, while China has always been comparing itself to the United States. Different goals lead to different perspectives. China's manufacturing capacity already surpasses the combined total of the United States, the European Union, and Japan. Its electricity generation is twice that of the United States, and its shipbuilding industry is 200 times larger. China is currently undergoing transformation and upgrades, shifting labor-intensive industries to countries like Vietnam. Best wishes to India.

I'm Chinese. As we all know, the United States is still the most powerful country in the world, but India is the largest democracy in the world. Indians and Jews are known as the best people in the world, and China's economy has collapsed since 2000. More and more Chinese people are returning to the countryside from cities, and worse, China is Subjected to sanctions by the United States and Europe, it is believed that it will not be long before China will change from an industrial country to an agricultural country. At the same time, India's population has surpassed that of China, and Indians are younger. We expect that India will become the number one in the world in 2040 and belong to India in the 21st century. I am a senior commentator of the Strategic Huyou Bureau of the People's Republic of China(中国战忽局CZHJ). Please believe my argument.

I was in Singapore recently and in discussion with a German manufacturing company, which wanted to make it big in Asia. Unfortunately, they had a very negative view of India.
As per them, India has no appreciation for quality. Suppliers in India are looking for under engineered sub-standard products. The company shelves its plan to set up a manufacturing plant in India and is now shutting its office in Mumbai. This was an eye-opening experience for me. The company has decided to put a plant in Malaysia.

7:24: "Made in India" means assembled in India, while most of the actual manufacturing is done in China. This video felt more sensational than usual. I like that you provide a lot of data, but you sugarcoat it as well, while avoiding focus on the other side of the story. Lack of growth isn't the problem, slow growth is. A country with such a huge young population can be expected to grow faster than a small country like Sri Lanka. A better metric is one that's relative for example the HDI. India's HDI was .63 in 2015 and the same .63 in 2021. Another important metric is trade balance. India's trade balance was -55B in 2013 and -151B in 2022. Which means India has started importing more than it exports. Another metric is GDP per capita, which even Bangladesh is higher in compared to India. Also, the number of Indians who renounced their citizenship has increased by 71% (controlled for population). Why not include this to give us the whole picture?

Even if the gov suddenly decides to make a 10-20 billion dollar manufacturing unit of smartphone which will manufacture 100% components in India, we won't be able to do that. India has good talent but in case on semiconductor manufacturing we don't even know a grain of sand. We don't have the basic knowledge nor technology to compete with the chaina in semiconductor.
But its not true that we just assembly the smartphones. In case of iphone, its body, charging circuits, structural modules, antenas these are all made locally in India which was not the case just few years back.
And assembling is first step towards manufacturing, just like in 1981 suzuki entered India by just assembling but now today we export millions of car worldwide.
We have take small steps, if we try to jump we will fall on our face.

"There's a confusion about China, the popular conception is that companies come to China because of low labour cost. I'm not sure what part of China they go to, but the truth is, China stopped being the low-labour-cost-country many years ago. That is not the reason to come to China from a supply point of view. The reason is because of the skill and the quantity of skill in one location and the type of skill it is. The products we do, really require advance tooling and the precision that you have to have. The tooling and working with the materials that we do are state of the art. The tooling skill is very deep in China. In the US, you could have a meeting with tooling engineers and I'm not sure if we could fill the room, even worse in Vietnam and India.
In China, you could fill multiple football fields.."

Interesting that India always has the hang up of beating China. Growth is not a zero sum game. It is not about beating others but bettering the lives of your citizens. India's economy right now is number five and a lot bigger than many countries for example Singapore , Norway, Sweden , South Korea, Japan etc but its standard of living is far lower than these smaller economies. Per capita income is more important. I suggest that Indian youths like her should take a trip to these smaller economies before bragging

Correction: "Assembling" is not truely manufacturing. Anyone can do that. All the phones here are "Assembled". All the components are sourced from outside india by the manufacturer and then assemblemed in India. India cannot even produce some thing as simple as a LED chip, forget about all the SMD components that go into the PCBs and the screens, we have 0 manufacturing, everything is still made in China or in other south eastern countries like vietnam, indonesia, malaysia, phillipines. True manfacturing comes when you have core components manufacturing capability here. What India currently has is just supply chain to Assembly line hub for electronics. Anyone calling "Assembling" as manufacturing please think again as its not sustainable since the true resource here is only labour and not technological know how, which should be the main strength one should aim for.

When you say low productivity, I think people are getting the wrong idea over it. The real problem is underpaid employment. I work in MNC with contract engineers and worker level people who come from all over India. They are skilled and can do work long hours. But don''t do it, the reason is underpayment. While this same workers go GULF countries and do more then required work, why ? Because they are paid which satisfies their requirement. In India we want everything Cheap but contractor make the payment so cheap that discourage the worker level people also the contract engineers to work extra for them. Their favourite line they say is "Atla paisa ma atluj kam thai" Means I only work for what I am paid, won't go any extra for your company. This same engineers go to GULF & Europe and will do hefty amount of work because they are well paid for their services & respected for it.

    Nice try but I think ground realities are totally different, some reasons to disagree are;
    1. Infrastructure in India is around 30-40 years behind than China in all aspect, which is playing pivotal role goods transportation, so it will take decades for India to catch up. Just imagine that China used more cement just in 2013-14 than it was used entire century in US.
    2. The technical labour force is not easily available so it will take at least 10-15 years to reach the basic requirements, and also women participation is very low as compared to China.
    3. China has a very stable govt with no opposition, so, policies are consistent and long term while there are so many political parties in India and ruling different provinces so very difficult on mutual consensuses.
    4. There are so many Economic zones in China which were started to developed around 40 years back, and now there are many economic zones, so different cities are famous for different products and more economic zones are being develop, which is not seen in India.
    5. BRI is linked with more than 150 countries, which means billions of projects are underway and some are already giving benefits to the economy, but best yet to come.
    6. Chinese companies are busy all over the world in infrastructure development, 5G, Telecom sector, Railways, dams, motorways, electronics. All top and most expensive infrastructures are being developed by Chinese companies, India is not 70 yrs behind.
    7. 80% of world electronics are made in China, so it will take years to replace, and by that time Chinese mobile companies will be everywhere and apple is expected to go down. 80% of Iphones are made in China, some of it can be shifted to other, but not all.
    8. China is leading 5G, AI, Drones, solar energy, wind energy, electric vehicles, electronics, space technology, high speed rail, nanotechnology, agriculture, batteries, etc, while India is far behind.
    9. For the first time in history there more Chinese universities than US universities in world top 2000 universities, and this number increased dramatically in last 5 years, while India is so behind.
    10. China is mostly self-sufficient while India is depending on outer world for many things.
These are some examples and overall, still many fields where India is very behind, and there is no field except population where India can cross China in coming years.

There is a huge difference between "Manufacturing" and "Assembling". India does assembling, not manufacturing. India does not have the expert talent pool within India, most of the Embedded and VLSI Engineers leave India as soon as they obtain the decent expertise.
India has so far failed to retain Engineers because of the following reasons-
    1. Engineers are treated like labourer working in a sweatshop in India, Respect comes first for any person.
    2. Much much lesser compensation(even if you consider PPP) compared to Western countries.
    3. Lack of R&D mentality.
    4. Lack of Good and Creative work within Indian offices
-- Fyi, I did my Engineering masters and ran away from India and Engineers always gets mocked in India. It's better to be in some other country whose citizen respects my profession. Here in USA, people gets really happy if I tell them what I do! Until and Unless India changes it's mentality in general, they won't be able to retain the talent.(Engineers which can actually do something)

It really doesnt matter. India being a manufacturing hub. Or largest army. 5th biggest economy. If india still has poverty, no cleanliness, poor traffic. Doesn't really matter what number we are in. If people doesnt have basic access, these numbers are of no use.

China is the world leader in 202 out of 235 industrial sector categories. China alone is responsible for 39% of global industrial output. China is the largest trading partner to 132 nations in the world. China's trade surplus of $889 billion last year is bigger than India's total international trade for the same period. While Indians are chest thumping for some Apple factory in India 😂

Indian manufacturing's growth is still slow and is lagging. It's most evident when you see Women Labour Force participation in India. No manufacturing jobs for women. Just compare it to our neighbour Bangladesh. It seems like we are catching up to China because of geopolitical issues and Covid. If confidence in Chinese manufacturing starts to come back (which is what is happening right now except for electronics because the US is being a bully) then we won't take over. We only have decent manufacturing in a couple of sectors. We need a lot more investment and job creation which isn't happening. Funds are going towards welfare not job creation or RnD. You guys should stress a little more on the negative points. Decent video overall tho.

Most automated countries in the world. Industrial robots density per 10,000 workers 2022:
    1. S. Korea🇰🇷 = 978
    2. Singapore🇸🇬 = 605
    3. China🇨🇳 = 420*
    4. Japan☢️ = 380
    5. Germany🇩🇪 = 370
    6. Sweden🇸🇪 = 290
    7. HongKong🇭🇰 = 270
    8. USA🇺🇸 = 250
    9. Taipei🇨🇳 = 240
    10. Denmark🇩🇰 = 240
*China is the world's fastest growing country in terms of robotics adoption in manufacturing. It is currently the world's largest market for industrial robots, accounting for half of global sales. Robots can increase productivity by a factor of 10 and reduce wastage by 90%. This is bad news for over-populated developing countries such as India, which is hoping to replace China as the factory of the world, solely based on its "demographic dividend" of cheap labour. In a world of robotics 🤖

Even if all the manufacturing shifted to India, it won't generate that many jobs as it did in china, because of robot and AI led growth in future. Also, we need to up skill our people. The fact that we need our own massive R&D, patents, companies like Apple, Tesla that takeover the world..Large part men of India still treat women as not powerful equal than man. Women can't work, women can't go out safely. Racism on the basis of color is still largely prevalent. Discrimination on the basis of religion is rising. Hatred for English language is rising. Many Indians are becoming bully for the love of their respective politicians. In large parts of India, family decides what child will study, become. Situation of govt schools and hospitals is just pathetic, except maybe Delhi because of AAP endorsed that a lot. Lack of planning and in construction methods and poor construction materials used for construction of many govt works. Inflation is high and savings aren't there much for ordinary middle class. Household debt is rising. Brain Drain is rampant, not only from Punjab, but Haryana and even Gujarat and the South. Massive corruption outside Tier 1 cities is still seen..Open defecation is still widely seen in rural and poor urban areas. Shit on the streets. Stray animals not taken care of. Politicians dividing us as a nation on religion, caste for votes, and people justify it 😔. Media is barely existent today. Lack of quality in many things we eat ourselves. Our food is just one of the lowest quality in the world, adulteration is there. Power cuts are there, in many parts of the country..I can keep on writing but, the thing is , we are messed up as a society 😢.

I have bad news for you.
USA is moving its manufacturing from China to mainland North America.
Wages in Mexico are lower than China, plus Mexico doesn't need products to be shipped across oceans. Shipping is cheaper, secure and reliable.
There is a huge boom across the US in setting up new manufacturing. Europe is already getting de-industrialized and massive plants are moving to US from Europe, closer to their market.

    • @blokin5039
      @blokin5039 Před 7 měsíci +2

In reality what's happening on the ground is that Chinese owned companies are heavily expanding in Mexico where they slap 'Made in Mexico' on the products and sell it to the US. And just like that NYT article I read last week US companies can't seriously compete with their Chinese counterparts when it comes to manufacturing. Sure the US government can put up even more barriers against Chinese products but that will only mean less incentives to compete and only produce for the US market. You can forget about competing internationally.

It is not possible even in 20 years. Societies clung to the past and ancient culture and deeply religious can never be successful in manufacturing or innovation.. Minds enslaved to Guru culture and religion can't innovate.. China. discarded religion and their old culture 80 years back and atheist China is an example of rapid progress in science and industry. Not only atheist China but also atheist Vietnam is on way to becoming a manufacturing hub. Pakistan is a best example as to how a religion can pull down a country and we are also gradually moving towards the same direction.

A quick note though , one of the main reasons why the west dominates is coz of an extremely superior knowledge economy and the continues and record high brain drain from India n other Asian nations shows who is the real gainer in the long term . China became world's factory but that alone didn't help upend USA as they rule the knowledge. Same is the case today as well . Especially biotechnology and AI these 2 alone would dictate the the other 3 decades of superiority and we lag courtesy of our bjp government as well as an equally ignorant opposition.

Rising debt payments are eroding the purchasing power of Indian households as the country saw its national household savings rate plunge to its lowest in half a century, at a mere 5.1% as of Dec 2023, down from 7.3% last year. This could lead to severe repercussions for the Indian economy in which domestic consumption is the main driver.

India is trying to cut the logistics cost for a very long time. New goods trains channels have been made but because of the passenger trains more than often it is delayed. Many of the railways lands are forcefully occupied and it takes year to reallocate those people and a few court cases. meanwhile in china it is a piece of cake. Many shipping docks have been modified for the same purpose. In many places of Bihar and Jharkhand it takes decades to make highways, bridges and over bridge but takes a few year to collapse. Same goes for Airport to acquire land for this propose two tenure of cm ends but the land the never gets acquired or some corruption happens in the process of acquisition.

and for samsung they are literally competing with apple by overpricing them the price is s24 series is higher in europe than in India lol
