Bank Fishing A Public Park With Ultralight Gear!

- I was surprised to stumble on a public park with a small pond while looking at Google Maps in search of new fishing spots. I am the type of angler that is willing to try all spots at least once or twice so I immediately hopped in the car and headed that way. Surprisingly this shallow, little pond paid off and I caught way more fish than I was expecting. Not only that, I was able to trick a handful of solid bass on a micro presentation!
The fish were definitely a bit finicky from the constant people walking by (and likely a lot of angling pressure) but if I could get my jig in front of them and drift and twitch in in their face, they would generally react. It was important that I stayed quiet and stealthy to avoid spooking them first, though. Hence the reason for the quieter audio in many parts of today's video...

I thought those were pretty nice bass for a pond that size. Looked like a lot of fun. Thanks for the video.
Heck yeah Jerry. Thank you :)
These are the kind of places that always have a single giant in them. Depending it'll be a 3-4 pound mama bass almost always.
Great video. Reminded me of growing up and fishing in the ponds at my house as a kid. Even the sounds that the bugs and frogs make all sound exactly the same and brought back good memories. Thx for the video.
Great channel man, you've been helping usher me straight towards the ultralight world as a brand new fisherman. Started on a fly rod this summer but picked up a UL spinning set up to help me learn the waters and fish a bit better alongside my fly casting practice. I've always loved finding the cool little niches in each hobby, and getting into ultralight fishing on tiny secluded pieces of water is totally up my alley 👍
I am so happy to hear this! Hope you keep on catching lots of fish :)
That's what she said....parks and rec is better than the office, you can't change my mind lol
Brando, that argument is summed up "Ron Swanson vs..... Who was even supposed to show up."
That's a no show forfeit right there.
@@patrickhenry236 Kelly would put Ron in an asylum.
@@WesleyDoes_ I doubt it. He'd start building the coffin long before that. Woodworking for the win
I honestly need to watch Parks & Rec all the way through. I have seen a ton of episodes but never beginning to end.
Great public park trip brother. I love the tapping the rod trick. Some of my buddies think I'm nuts until the fish get hooked. Boom 💥. Love the ultralight action. Blessings Ethan
Heck yeah Brian! It works great - thank you as always :)
Love little ponds like that!
Simple, yet fun!
That rod tap works like a charm 😂😂
It’s a great way to put tiny little action in your jig to tempt them without moving it much
That was a busy hour, buddy! Nice work finding those bass!
Thanks B! Always fun :)
I got an ultralight setup about a month ago and just put in 2 orders of mule fishing products. Can’t wait!!!!
You inspired me to get into the ultralight game. Love your content and im sure I will love your products.
Thank you so much for the support!! I hope you crush fish on the setup.
@@FishAnything Update: My son and I have been crushing it with your lures and tackle. Bass, bluegill, crappie, and even a big catfish. Will be posting some pics and vids.
Love your vids. You are the Bob Ross of ultra light fishing. 😁
lol that’s a hell of a complement!
Another excellent video by the master! Always enjoy your content Ethan
Thank you Mat. Hope all is well :)
An hour or two, huh? Welp, now we got a fish anything video! Love it.
Any chance I get, I am going to go chase down a few :)
@@FishAnything loving the mule jigs so far! Been catching a ton of pans on them and got one of my nicest brown trout on them this year so far!
I thought this place looked familiar! By the end of the video i was convinced i knew where you were fishing. Great memories of attempting to catch fish while waiting for my brothers baseball practice to be done. Gosh the nostalgia is real on this one, great job!
Haha that is epic! Yeah, it honestly has way more fish than expected!
Well u caught more in this episode than i did in 3 baseball seasons lol
There was a lot more fish in that pond than I would have expected. Good way to find new places to fish Ethan
Heck yeah this place was loaded for being such a small pond.
Love fishing ponds, cool looking hybrids.
Dang right!
Awesome video Ethan. Man when you found the bass, the heat turned up. Great job.
There were bass in other areas too, but it took me a few minutes to figure out the trick to make them eat :)
Great vid man!!! I love public pond fishing, you never know what you might catch!
Thanks! Yeah it’s a great way to catch fish with limited time :)
Awesome video. this is the fishing i like to see. never seen any one sling shot a lure. This video earned my subscription..
Thanks for watching and I appreciate you clicking subscribe. Lots of ultralight fishing on this channel :)
🎣 nicely well done with those catches
and that is for sure.
Thank you Shawn

Like always here,
Very welcome you are
Glad you tried that nanobraid, I was looking at that line. Hope to hear more feedback on that. Also enjoyed seeing the high pressures pond fishing. I start out on ponds like that, and skunked a lot. Once I got into ultralight and finesse type fishing I started doing better.
Ultralight is the key :) and yeah I am not huge on this line honestly. It is good, but I feel that the Spro Finesse Braid or Daiwa J Braid is still my preference.
@@FishAnything what is it about the spring and j braid that you like over the nano braid? I use to use that braid all the time but haven’t been able to find it as much lately.
Ultralight fishing is quickly becoming one of my favorite methods to fish. One of my favorite things to do is use my little 4’6” and 500 size reel and a hair jig to scope out new locations. Work it exactly like a streamer
Always a great time! Happy to hear you also enjoy it :)
Hard to beat pond fishing
Always fun :)
Green gills are awesome
They are cool fish. Sunfish in general are awesome :)
Great video
Killed it! 🔥
Thanks :)
Really enjoyed the fishing video. I have a few public ponds just like that.
It is always a good time getting out on a local pond and catching fish that you know have seen 1,000 lures. Makes me feel like I know what I am doing haha
How funny. For the pas week I've been stopping at the park (actually a private business park that allows the public to come in and fish barbless C&R only) that I usually stop at on my way home from work. All week I've been catching mostly little greengills.
Love it! Glad you are catching fish :)
Great Video Ethan!
Thank you!!
The rod tapping trick works great.
When the bait hovers in their face and I have a semi-slack line, I like to smack the rod and make it quiver ever so lightly. Fish love it!
Crazy man!!!
Amazing vidio, Ultralight life Style🤘🎣.
#Foconoultralight
Tight lines Bruno
Great fishing in a public park. By the way, nice shorts, quite the fashion statement.
I am always focused on fashion first. XD
I just bought the Dobyns Sierra rod. I just love it!
So happy to hear it! That rod straight up catches fish :)
This would be a perfect place for top water dry flies. "The second i typed this, he said the exact same thing" 😂
great video ethan loved it cant wait to fish this weekend texas been so hot though miserable trying to go at noon afternoon right now :(
Hope you can find some good fishing soon!
That is 100% the kind of pond where I immediately grab my tenkara rod.
Yessir...I was thinking that too
Absolutely would be a stellar option at this spot
Awesome video
Thank you :)
@@FishAnything welcome anytime
Great video 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks D!
Always wanted to fish there. Kid plays ball at that park. I'll have to bring the rod next time.
Hope you crush them!
I haven’t fished a pond in forever. I should probably do that this winter when it’s too cold to wet wade.
You definitely should!
8:11 I did not know this trick for shooting your jig, learned something!
That IS cool! There was an earlier video where Ethan was 'shooting docks' from his kayak, using that technique. I've been practicing it...have yet to get it right :) (have the bloody fingers to prove it!)
It is honestly an incredibly useful technique. I will do more videos on it for sure! Always grab the bend of the hook, never in front of the point lol
Love your content God bless Ethan
Thank you! Tight lines, Caleb.
Great tap technique. It's so hard for me to catch fish that I can see but you're too good at it. Btw what braid to leader knots do you use. I love using braid but sometime I have random break without any force. I don't know is it because Spro line is too soft or not but I had some random break between lines. I use yucatan knot because it seems like it easiest to me. FG knot maybe over kill for ultralight fishing? Anyways thank you for great videos and products I love them. My bags and gear are full of stuffs you introduced and they work like a charm.🎣
That little tap technique makes the bait dance ever so lightly in front of the fish's face. Can't resist it!
And I just use a simple Double Uni Knot. 5 wraps braid, 4 wraps leader. Works like a charm!
My kind of fishing
Can't go wrong!
I git that exact suffix nanobraid in 2,4,6 and 10. Same aqua cano colour (not good for visibility). The diameter is really low, if visibility isnt high on a priority list id say its pretty good.
It is pretty good stuff, but I still prefer standard 8 strand braid
First I just want to say how great your videos and products are, I think you should take a look at a Daiwa iprimi xxul, it is a super light rod that will fully load in a 5 inch bluegill, the only thing is that it is mainly meant for micro hardbaits, thanks
Thanks so much! Yeah, I have heard great things about that stick so it is only a matter of time :)
I've been loving ultralight fishing lately. A lot of my content has been ultralight adventures
Love to hear it buddy! Holler if I can ever do anything for you :)
I’ve got the nano braid in 6lb, I may have to give that 3lb a try for one of my ultralights.
Honestly I don't think it is worth it. I definitely prefer a high quality, standard braid.
@@FishAnything right. The nano stuff is kinda hard to get a good knot tied imo. I’ve been having good luck with daiwa x8 and 5lb power pro.
Punched the air everytime they took the bait 😂
Nice video. Do a Video with the St. Croix Avid Panfish?
I will have to look into it!
That rod thump gets anything on a bed lol
Just enough to make the lure shimmy lightly!
First! :P Nice hooking intro!
Thanks for watching :)
How do you recommend the best way to fish the small mule minno
Check out my website - it has some articles on how to fish the Mule Jig which will help. Otherwise, I really like to fish it on a tiny Mule Jig (1/80 or 1/64) and drift it ever so slowly in shallow water. The slow rate of fall paired with the tiny profile drives them nuts.
Really great looking setup, seems hard to find the rod online
Yeah I got it as a gift. It is a Japanese rod so it isn't available on most websites.
💯🔥💙👍
Thanks as always :)
That thing weighs more than my 94 f-150... just had it on the scale today, 5,300 lbs
Lol I am not sure what you are referring to but it works for me.
Those Skinny Bass would be at least 2 pounds heavier if it was a 3-4 foot deeper pond.
It’s a weird little pond but I was pleasantly surprised.
Where abouts in the state are you located Ethan? I’m in the great state of Michigan as well 🤙
Ordered a few jigs and baits from ya - can’t wait to give them a try around our area (Linwood)
SW side of the state! Thanks so much for your support :)
Hey man, you need to test out the ACc crappie stix 1pc, duckett crappie slayer rod, and the Falcon crappie series 6ft ultra light.
I have a Duckett waiting to be tested. I intend to try an ACC as well. I will note the Falcon :)
@@FishAnything Good deal!
Bruh, did you try to take a pic with your phone upside down?😂😂
Honestly wouldn’t surprise me 😵💫
Do you like the j-braid more than the nano?
Yea 100%. I’m not a big fan of the nano. It’s not bad but I prefer a normal braid.
How I envy this type of pond fishing where you'll get multiple species wanting to bite artificial lures. It feels 95% of this type of shallow ponds in Sweden have 1-2 small pike in them, some shad/roach, maaybe some tiny perch, and nothing else. Light years away from all the bass/sunfish/crappie in coolness.
roach occupies a similar niche to sunfish right?
I have never fished in Sweden, but that would be epic too. Either way, I am very lucky to have a tremendous amount of diversity here in Michigan, US.
Just broke my ultralight rod. Need to get another one asap
Sorry to hear it :( hope you find a good replacement!
Maybe old wives' tale...but I always thought the leader was supposed to be lighter/thinner than the main line. 3# nano is around .002in, Yo Zuri leader .009in...maybe with stuff this small it doesn't matter? (sure seems to be casting just fine in the video!) Probably more of a rule for larger stuff like 10# braid to 40# mono leader :)
Honestly I prefer to do lighter lb test as a leader but you aren't going to find many lines lower in diameter than 3lb Sufix Nanobraid. It is okay to go a bit heavier as long as you aren't upsizing the diameter too terribly much.
Hi like Your Video 😅
Thank you!
since i got an ultralight set up i havent touched my bass fishing combos
That’s how it goes! 🤣
That is the style of fishing I do. Except themm no part where you catch all the fish. I don’t do that.
lol hang in there and keep fishing! It’ll happen 🤠👊🏽
what was that tapping method at the start of the vid?
It is a way to bounce your jig suuuuuuper subtle by putting some vibration in your rod and into your line. I love it for finicky fish I am sight-fishing.
@@FishAnything Ha awesome! And another question, not sure if you have daiwa mag sealed reels, but if so, what do you do to oil them?
Normal oil, or the magnetic oil that costs more then gold?
do you know when the donkey tail is back in stock?
Working on it! Should be sooner rather than later - sorry about the inconvenience.
What reel is that?
It is a JDM Daiwa. The Daiwa MX LT 1000S-P
How do you like Yamaga blanks
Excellent little ultralight! Super fun and lightweight.
What rod
Yamaha Blue Current III
When did you change the name of you channel?
Last summer/fall! Video explanation here: czcams.com/video/c9nSWOf1zNs/video.html
At lest your catching something it's upsetting when you don't catch anything an that's my luck
Hang in there and the fishing should get better as the weather warms up!
Are you at the dink master pond
Seems like it!
3:33 that’s what she said
Should have seen that one coming sheeeeesh
pregnant bluegill?? Maybe "gravid".
