Thank you for the tight, informative, smoothly prepared and delivered, and necessary takes. Thank you for also the information pertaining not only to the top 10 possible prospect draft options, but also the bottom end of the first round and the possibilities there. I always appreciate a mentioning of those players as well. It makes viewing the draft that much more enjoyable. Also, great new haircut Drew! Always Positive. Always Here. Mick

    Really enjoyed this episode . Wow Shane and i think alot alike . Our list throught both list almost identical . Accept for Canton at 5 for habs on wish list. Cant know that at all. Well done . Nice to see Shane s thought process. I was quite impressed ,i swear he got inside my head. And only thing i m worried about is ,Lidstrom going sooner. I honestly believe habs need to trade up in 2 nd or 3rd to assure getting Lidstrom or Demidov . I just get a bad feeling those two are going in top 3.

    @GabrielMasutti Před 26 dny +2

    If say both Demidov and Lindstrom are gone before the Habs pick, does nobody else think they should consider drafting Cole Eiserman. Let's be completley honest, the habs need goal scoring ability, and Caulfied is not going to cut it. Eiserman is without a doubt the best pure goal scorer of this draft, and would undoubtebly fill that hole for montreal. He has some gaps in his game, and he's not a centerman, however I think that if played with the right centerman Eiserman's game can fill out nicely. Especially with a good coach like MSL, Eiserman would not only reach his goal scoring potential at the NHL level, but would be a solid all around player as well. I like Iginla, however I think Eiserman is just as promising if not more.

      Since most Hab fans aren't showing much interest in Eiserman and don't consider him on the Habs radar, I agree with what you're saying and imo could be the sleeper in the draft. I wouldn't be disappointed if the Habs select Eiserman if the other top guys are no longer available at #5. Me personally I like Iginla.

    It will be fascinating to watch what happens at the draft, specifically for the Habs, because of the uncertainty with who each team picks after #1. As to who the Habs will draft...I think Hughes&Co will prepare for all scenarios...so I am convinced Hughes has already contacted his other GMs to see what is available and being very open to listening to other teams asking for Habs players/picks. Once the draft takes place (and I highly doubt Habs can trade up), IF the player they want is available at #5, then obviously they make the pick...however IF, let's say the top choices the Habs have on their list are taken by picks #2-#4...then decisions need to be made on what to do. I have no clue who the Habs will draft...but I am convinced they want to draft a HIGH skilled offensive fwd (Demidov?) and/or for size (Lindstrom? Sennecke?? (my spidey senses feel Sennecke will be the pick))...let me put this out there, if picks #2-#4 are all forwards, what if the Habs make a trade, trading 1/2 of their highly touted Dmen for a Top6 forward, then select a Dman at #5. I doubt this scenario happens but watching how Hughes works...he likes to be "creative" especially when it comes to trades and trying to improve this team. We shall see!

    They are in a rebuild where development is a top priority. Gorton's player development staff worked wonders with Caufield, Guhle, Xhekaj, Slafkovsky. Two of those guys were Bergevin picks and pretty much all of Bergy's previous picks faded away, undeveloped, except for Sergachev who they traded and he actually developed in Tampa. In return Bergevin got Drouin who ... faded away. They should draft skill with a high ceiling and most of all the ability to develop. Stay away from picking based on stats and eye candy. The shiniest toy approach isn't good enough.

    Fully agree with Shayne on the scouting. There's always a level of hit & miss in those draft but it's gone impressively well, especially looking at the second rounds and latter.
    To be fair we were already seeing some major scouting improvement, especially in the last year of the Bergevin era. Guys like Trudeau, Simoneau have truly been helpful to Laval this season, and they also got Roy and Kapanen. But then Gorton came along, reshuffled the structure a bit to create this 2 pronged Bobrov Lapointe scouting direction. From them the only "ok, maybe that one's a miss" that i could quote is Vinzenz Rohrer who's not doing that bad in NL but if taking a gamble on a smaller forward Jordan Dumais was still available with way more upside to show for (by so far it's really sad). But then we got Engström that same round & Davidson early in the next who's developping fine enough for the AHL in what wasn't a crazy deep draft at all to begin with, so can't complain.

    Shane - I like your mock draft but I think that Columbus will take Lindstrom because they need scoring more than defense. If that happens, I think the Canadiens trade down with Calgary (5 for 9) and take Senneke. That way Calgary get's Iginla but it costs them their Slovakian first-round draft pick from last year. Iginla is not going to make it to 9 as too many teams like Montreal, Columbus, and Seatle need offense.

  • @brendanaucoin
    @brendanaucoin Před 27 dny +1

    Moving up will cost and we have lotsa' D and trading Roy is a loss so trade Matheson and keep Savard as our veteran. but a large forward seems likely. We have Suzuki at 210 lbs, Dach, Slav, and Armia on our fourth line. Priority is not size. A play driver like Catton would add more to the TEAM concept and a need for variety. Catton has it all and needs weight which is simple to solve. Catton pound for pound is the best forward in the draft and the play driver will add more to the TEAM. Size is easy to find but a solid play driver will win hockey games. Lafleur, Richard, etc were all under 6ft but were Giants and were play drivers. We cant pass up on this opportunity. Pick Catton!

      I completely agree. Best to draft one of the top defensemen this year unless (by some miracle) Demidov is still available. Even with Dach back in the lineup, Habs still need a lot of work to contend for the cup. Not enough depth at every position. It will take years to rebuild properly. I fully expect Habs to finish near the bottom in 25 & 26. Some great offensive talents are coming.

    MHL stock has never been so low, country is at war and that league doesn’t have the depth as most talented players play in the kHL , including prospects , due to the low amount of international players playing in the kHL due to the war. At the same age michkov was playing in the kHL , breaking Malkins and ovechkin records for a player his age and when he faced bedard he outscored him at the U18
    So the habs passed on michkov at 5th last year so they could pick reinbacher , but this year if demidov was available they would pick him ? Don’t get me wrong , I would of picked michkov last year and demidov this year, we need talent but to say that he’s the best Russian since Ovechkin when kucherov had better season than Crosby , that’s a little premature , but don’t worry , demidov will be gone by the time the habs pick anyway
    As for Linstrom has a bad back , look at him skate , his whole career he skated with that stance that screams bad back. And his stats are average . Iginla at 5th is just mental 😂😂😂
    1.Celeb 2. demidov 3. Silayev 4. Eiserman 5. ????
    Too many #1 defensemen available at number 5 to waste a pick on iginla or lindstrom . And yes I got Silayev at number 3, 6’8 and his skating for a player his size is unheard of, this guy has the skills and size to be the next Chara .
    Tell me how do you pass on Levshunov, Parekh and Dickinson stats are just retarded and can’t be ignored
    That’s why I’ll always say that the Reinbacher pick , regardless on what he does , wasn’t a good pick

      Historically speaking from 1990 to about I believe 2018 the 5th overall pick ended being better than the 4th or 6th overall pick…. Also at 5th overall you are more likely to get an All-Star, Superstar, Elite or Franchise player than a Bust… Also most 5th overall picks end up playing north of 600 games in the NHL… Tony Marinaro talked about this study that was done recently I believe last week and 5th overall historically speaking is a very good place to draft…

    Trade for a top six guy? Engles is expecting a trade for a top six? Hughes has been GM for 2 years and 4 months. So far he has acquired ...
    zero experienced goalies
    zero experienced defence men
    zero experienced forwards, except for 4th line temps to plug a hole.
    The 5 high end D they assembled ... Xhekaj, Mailloux, Hutson, Reinbacher, Guhle ... have a combined total of 212 games experience. It will be 2026 before Hutson, Mailloux & Reinbacher reach 100 games, providing they start playing now, otherwise it will take longer. Trade for more scoring now? What for? They are going to turn over the puck and give up goals. They are not ready.
    They have 25 draft picks in the next 14 months, potentially 5 of them in the 1st round. The goaltending prospects are built. The defence is pretty much built. They can draft 25 forwards and develop the best of them while the new D starts to play. Handing out 7 million dollar contracts to an older player is a mistake, at this time.

    No one has a god damn clue what will happen after Celebrini. All speculations. But for me, if I'm the Hawks GM, i go for the big center Lindstrom to be the second C behind Bedard, too many smurfs on that team . Then Levshunov in Anahein is simply the best fit. If im in Columbus shoes, i have a really big dilemma between Demidov, and the 2 big left D Silayev and Dickinson, or even Buium.
    We gotta pray for Demidov or Lindstrom for the Habs. Its a high possibility one of the 2 slips.

    • @dlphcoracl9645
      @dlphcoracl9645 Před 27 dny

      The smurf factor is irrelevant at the No. 2 pick. At No. 2, you pick the best player available and that will probably be Ivan Demidov, who will be an ideal winger on a line centered by Connor Bedard. Larger, stronger centers and wingers can be added in free agency. I think it is unlikely either Demidov or Lindstrom will slip down to No. 5 and the Montreal Canadiens will be choosing between: Anton Silayev, Zeev Buium, Zayne Parekh, Sam Dickinson, and possibly Tij Iginla. Silayev or Parekh would be my pick at No. 5

    • @maxpatenaude2115
      @maxpatenaude2115 Před 27 dny

      @dlphcoracl9645 you got a good point for sure. But you gotta admit players like Cayden Lidnstrom don't come around to often, a rare species. Big center, gritty, hell of a shot, good hands, good skating. I just like the package Lindstrom brings. Look at Byfield and Slafkovsky in recent memories, they went 2nd and 1st overall, in perhaps less deep draft but still ! A center is always more valuable than a winger and dont sleep on the Russian factor. I love Demidov, i like the skills, but you gotta look at the big picture too. Who do you choose to build your team for the playoffs.
      But trust me ! Its a very hard call between Demidov and Lindstrom, Chicago will most likely go for one of the 2.

    • @dlphcoracl9645
      @dlphcoracl9645 Před 27 dny

      @@maxpatenaude2115 The 'Russian factor' is greatly exaggerated. The top Russian prospects almost always find their way into the NHL if they want to. A more difficult aspect of the 'Russian factor' is the inability of Blackhawks scouts to see Demidov in person during a game. For the Blackhawks, prioritizing the center position (Lindstrom) takes 2nd place to finding someone who can score goals. Blackhawks had the worst power play and scored the fewest goals in the NHL and this should be top priority with their No. 2 pick. For this reason, I am betting on Kyle from Chicago to aggressively pursue a 1st round trade with their No. 20 pick if Cole Eiserman slips out of the top ten.

      By the way , for a guys that was an average player in junior and went 130th overall , it doesn’t get much better than Mike Hoffman , 485 pts in 745 nhl for a 130th overall is well above average of what’s expected of such player

      I like Sennecke too, I wouldn't be so quick to talk negatively about his abilities translating to the NHL, but Eiserman is a pure Sniper and could be the sleeper in the draft. I wouldn't be disappointed if the Habs selected Eiserman, they desperately need more scoring on the team to help Suzuki, Caufield, and Slafkovsky.

      Demidov is taller and bigger.
      Demidov has hands that are
      LIGHT YEARS
      above Michkov’s hands.
      Demidov has a better vision.

    Among all the terrible terms and phrases that have become popular among hockey commentators, the most puzzling is "unicorn." What do people mean when they call a player this? I think they think it's the same as saying "one of a kind." Or, as you say in this video, "rare." A unicorn is a mythical animal. It's not rare; in fact, it doesn't exist. The problem with these kinds of silly terms is that they don't actually communicate anything. You might try and just tell us what you mean using regular words. It's like calling a player a "Swiss army knife" instead of saying he is versatile. So tiresome. Also, what do you mean by "a huge green flag"?
