      I have a neck and shoulder injury and that is how I found the the ART tube preamp V3. Highly, highly, highly recommend adding it or a similar product. I also use it with my practice amp (Fender GTX 100) and it adds so much (if you have a GTX, don’t forget global eq). The Rockerverb has that tube loudness factor, which gives the tone some clarity, but the Super Crush has that JFET gain to compensate for that. At 1/4 the price, the OSC100 expands the customer base exponentially. Most casual players will not drop 2k for a tube amp head. My question is regarding reliability difference. If dropped repeatedly from 5 feet, which amp will fail first? Amps can fall of buses, stages, down stairs.

    • @jazznotes3802
      @jazznotes3802 Před 2 lety +2

      True, but adding the low end will also make it sound muddy. Then if you use an EQ pedal to bring back some clarity, now your right back where you started.
      That’s why it’s a LOT easier to cut frequencies then to boost them. If it’s not there to start with, it can be very hard to add later. (Especially low end balls, that still maintain clarity)

    The difference is there (well... tubes), but, from my humble point of view, the Rockeverb is not four times better than the Crush. I mean, for a non tubed amp, it sounds brilliant. The Crash could easily stand there with the big boys. A job well done by Orange!

      Good decision. The Katana helps you work out what effects you like but it’s pretty sterile and lifeless. The super crush clean channel is a pedal baby circuit and the dirty channel is monster with controllable feedback on demand you can roll in with the guitar volume.

    I keep coming back to this video even a year later because you give this amp the demo it deserves. For it being less than 600$ for a Orange head…that alone is insane. But it does have a very similar sound and feel to the Rockerverb. You can tell that the Rockerverb has a lot more low end and bass than the SuperCrush, however I bet with the right overdrive/distortion pedal…you can get pretty damn close to that true tube tone. Your demo of it has inclined me to purchase the super crush and give it a try.

    Man, the Super Crush 100 has a much tighter bottom end and a more colossal midrange that the Crush 120. Definitely closer to the Rockerverb sound on the cheap. I still like the Crush Pro 120, but the new Super Crush offers quite more tonal variety for only 50 bucks more.

      hmm. i have a cr120, and honestly i find it less fizzy sounding than the videos i've heard so far of this super crush. my cr120 sounds massive and awesome, so far all i've heard of the new super crush sounds more trebley and fizzy. 🤷‍♂️

    • @natethompson1257
      @natethompson1257 Před 2 lety +2

      @@lawngnome412 I'm planning on pre-ordering the Super Crush head sometime soon, so I might do a compare/contrast on both running through a 2x12 loaded with V30's to see the differences. There seems to be a lot more of a Marshall-esque flavor with the Super Crush 100's low end being tighter, alongside a more wide open midrange compared to the looser, fuzzier and more compressed Crush Pro 120. I have the Crush Pro 120 head (awesome amp) and a Rockerverb 50 2x12 combo, and I think personally this new Super Crush 100 sounds closer to the real tube powered Rockerverb compared to the Crush Pro 120, albeit having a tighter bottom end. The D.I. out on the Super Crush however, sounds like crap, but I hardly use DI out anyway.

    One thing to note is the “Orange Super Crush 100 is prone to buzz/noise from dirty electric”. (Just like many tube/valve amps).
    I’ve had three (as I thought they were faulty) and all suffered from this issue.
    My house is very old and has dirty electric, so I need to plug something called “A power conditioner” into the socket before the amp. So I can play it without any horrible noise getting in the way. All my other solid-state amps don’t suffer with this issue. My best guess is as they’re made very different, like most solid state amps. (Not class A/B))
    The Super Crush has a lot of the tube counterparts (the Rockerverb) components, just using Jfets instead.
    So this is something to note when considering it.

    In the recording, there was a noticeable difference (with my eyes closed) in the Overdrive/Distortion, but not huge. You can hear more girth and the tube sag, but still the Super Crush held up well enough. For me, the massive difference was in the cleans of the Rockerverb, it definitely sounds a lot more rounded and smoother... More full?. But for the price difference to quality, I'd definitely go for the Super Crush.
