  • This is a commission piece. I got the general design idea from Ian Atkinson at Leodis Leather. Watch his video in the link below if you want to see how a professional leatherworker does it.

      I can't show ALL of the failures.... The video would be too long. :)

    Really amazing work! That burnisher has been a big success, huh? So satisfying to use a tool or jig you made yourself.

    Looks great! I thought you had picked up a stitch groover from the look of the first stitches, then saw you using it later in the video. Those things are great. Really impressed with how well your burnisher worked on all those thicknesses too! Also cool seeing you use the knife and stitch pony. It's neat watching you make stuff now and remembering all the previous videos you did of the tools you are using.

      Thanks! I really appreciate that, I'm brand new as you can tell, haha. I have four more videos I'm editing right now. One of them is up cycling a piano into a bar, I'm really excited about that one.

    • @GPWoodworks
      @GPWoodworks  Před 7 lety

      I was going to ask about the piano. That sounds cool.... All CZcamsrs were new once. Your first two videos are better than my first ten videos... Not that mine are great now... LOL!

    Hi there my friend, just one small thing on a constructive comment, if you were to make your wooden mould for the top piece of leather, round at the bottom corners, then malnipulate it down with your hands a bit more before putting your top wooden mould on it, thenput some small slits at the corners, but not too close to the job, it will prevent the leather from splitting and you will have good results every time and less wasteage, but hey!! you got there in the end, and what a nice job you made of it to.

      Yes. I soak the leather in water before molding it.

    What would be a good kit to buy for leather crafting?

    • @GPWoodworks
      @GPWoodworks  Před 6 lety +1

      I tend to pick up individual tools slowly over time (and as I need them).
      But for kits, I would start here:
      www.tandyleather.com/en/search/?sSearch=leather%20tool%20starter%20kit
      There are kits available for good prices from the cheap-o websites too:
      www.banggood.com/search/leather-working-tool-kits.html
      A lot of leather working tools can be replaced with inexpensive analogs from around the shop... so be wary of the kit option. You will find that some of the tools in the kits will just collect dust.
      I hope this helps.

    Where did you get your cutting knife?

    • @GPWoodworks
      @GPWoodworks  Před 4 lety

      The yellow and black one is just a cheap-o extendable utility knife.
      The round knife is one I made... it's not very good.
      The round knife that I use now is from Tandy Leather: www.tandyleather.com/en/product/al-stohlman-brand-round-knife
