“For a single day, the opposing forces mingled in friendly conversation and even in games. It was an amazing spectacle, and must arouse bitter thoughts concerning those high-ranking conspirators against the peace of the world, who in their mad ambition had hounded such men on to take each other by the throat rather than by the hand.” - Arthur Conan Doyle, 1916.
''Balls to War: when a world war stopped to play football'' - the 6min 50sec video by nowarglory
It’s what happens when you get a film crew to make a music video rather than a crew who usually make music videos to make it
The saddest part about this event in history is how much it shows neither side really hated the other as much as people thought they did. They were just soldiers stuck in a dirty war they didn't really want to be involved in. It really emphasizes the reality of war and how it benefits nobody except those who aren't even fighting in it.
Merry Christmas and thank you for reacting to such a great story.
if you want to watch more Sabaton, you have to learn to respect the credits. There are some beautiful gems hidden there
Merry Christmas to you and Everyone 🎅🎄
Merry Christmas🎄🎅⛄🎉
Merry Christmas from Germany ! Mein Onkel wurde am 24.12. Heilig Abend 1943 in OSLO von einen Tiefflieger erschossen . Mein 2. Onkel auf See vermisst . Durch SABATON habe ich den Namen meines 2. Onles auf der Crewlist der BISMARCK gefunden. Dies ist mein 1. Weihnachen an dem ich weiß wo meine ganze Familie geblieben ist. Frohes Fest Euch allen !
Merry Christmas to you
Sabaton are one of my favourite groups and I love the fact you are reacting to it. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. NB. Give 1918 by Sabaton a watch, and watch it all!
I have really got into this band over the past year. I love that all their songs are based on military history. There is a video on their history channel for the story behind this song.
If you would like some suggestions of other Sabaton songs to try, I'd suggest 'No Bullets Fly' (animated video - awesome story behind this one, that keeps adding more awesomeness even when you think the video is done), '1916' (a cover of a Motorhead song, perhaps do a combo video of both versions as they are very different in style), 'En Livstid I Krig" (Live performance in Gothenburg - have subtitles on as it is sung in their native Swedish), 'Final Solution' (the heaviest subject to write about but a combo of the video and the accompanying video from their history channel is horrific but vital viewing).
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
great song and great band ....
You have to look at the making off of the advert of Sainsbury's, they explained all the info included the people in the advertising are the descendants of the military who were in the truce.
Not a rock guy obviously but this was very unique. Enjoyed it.
They've got a lot of other stuff history related, animated story videos and a whole ass history channel digging into the stories of the events they sing about.
They also visit and support military museums up and down the UK...😊😊@@TheEclecticBeard
Both versions have meaning, one is the war, and the other about what they did. Such a powerful massage, including the history behide it that on their history channel. But great reaction.
If you want another song by them about an extremely insane event check out No Bullets Fly by them. They have an animated video explaining the amazing story
Sabaton was formed in 1999 in Falun, Sweden, and they make heavy metal songs about events, battles or persons in history. They are not taking sides, they sing about the ancient greek as well as the history of the Purple Heart, no matter which nation or time in history, but based on known facts! May i leave a request? Sabaton the animated Story of "No bullets fly".It will describe what they do! Cheers from Germany and all the best wishes
A shame you cut the credits short. Sabaton made such an effort to get this video done and all participants deserve their credits. Now you also missed the beautiful voice of Floor Jansen, the singer of Nightwish you reacted to some time ago. Floor is married to the drummer of Sabaton, Hannes Van Dahl, who played the german soldier stunned by the grenade and the first one climbing out of the trenches.
I agree... Filming took place in the former military complex in Rožmitál pod Třemšín in the Czech Republic (Joakim Brodén has a Czech passport. his mother is CZECH) by a Czech team. Overall, the work on the clip took about three weeks. It was filmed over two days in actual trenches that were dug for filming purposes. Here is the Making of: czcams.com/video/YtbaIf9tfNY/video.html
You should also check out No Bullets Fly the animated video, another great true story of humanity in the middle of the madness that is war
Hello Alan. I can really only talk from what I learned about the British soldiers in 1914, but they were at that stage a small army of professional soldiers, more in the tradition of the previous century. It was not unknown for British and French soldiers of the Peninsula War a hundred years earlier to fratanise away from the battlefield.
The mass citizen armies that came later in the war were more like the twentieth century we learn about through films like 1917.
The British had to learn all about how to raise such an army, train it, equip it, and find a way to win. The modern thinking came in large part from Australia and Canada, modern nations who were not willing to send men to be cannon fodder in the way the European armies were, sent forward again and again. A
Also there was British industry for tanks and planes from mass production of a dedicated war economy, after the logistical problems early on. Combined arms warfare in the last 100 days of the war, by the Commonwealth armies, overcame the trench stalemate, but this gets overshadowed by the arrival of the Dough Boys in large numbers and tales of Belleau Wood and the like, as shown.
Unfortunately for the soldiers, there was a lot learned all round by mistakes, the weapons having got ahead of the strategy and tactics.
Happy Boxing Day.
A great review of a very important moment in a terrible war. In my city ( Liverpool UK) we have a "Bombed out church " untouched since the Second World War which has a statue of two soldiers shaking hands on said day. "Lest we forget " has never been more poignant in these troubled times abroad.
Loud love and peace to you all
The Garth Brooks song "Belleau Wood" is about the Battle of Belleau Wood.
Sabaton also did a song about it.
The Song is called "Devil Dogs".
If you know anyone who was or is in the USMC, do a review with them.
Have a very merry Christmas 🎄🍷🍺🥃
Merry Christmas Alan
PTSD was common, in British troops, back then, and many who suffered from it, were shot, for cowardice! What a disgrace!
For the Allfather fenrisian battle brother. Courage and honour, and happy Sanguinala.
awesome love sabaton my favarete band would be awesome if you can react to more of there music vids my faverte on is Sabaton the Bismarck please watch awesome video
The ironic let's stop fighting to have peace then divide into two teams and fight as teams during peace time
I wonder how they track the days to know it is Christmas

BTW the cross they portrayed in the video is real, its still there next to a farmers field in Flandres
WOW👍❤❤❤
This actually happened and they played football in a truce on both sides in the First World War at xmas
Such an awesome song, such an amazing video. Fortunate to have seen Sabaton live and love their music. The Red Baron, 40:1, Bismarck, all their stuff is good.
Unfortunately I never got to meet my Grandfather, who was a Gordon Highlander at the battle of the Somme. To be honest, when I was younger I probably wouldn't have been interested. But now I would say tell your story and to all younger people ask questions. I have so many now that will never be answered.
Excellent....
Look at Sabaton No bullets fly the animated video
The 6 min 51 second video ''Balls to War: When a World War Stopped to Play football,'' by nowarglory
I'm guessing there were some too high, over-the-head shots in the days right after.
Plenty. Eventually the generals on both sides moved all the squads around because it became clear the soldiers didn't want to shoot each other.
you were right at the beginning! Something epic is building up... but you pushed the epic away at the end... sad...!
50m apart? How did they not kill one side as trying to make the trenches, I for some reason thought was 500-2000m apart
Huh, the animated video is gone. Link goes to a removed video.
How disappointing that you couldn't be bothered after such an epic video to pay tribute to those who put it together and also missing the beautiful singing of Floor Jansen the Nightwish lead singer and wife of the first soldier to put his head above the parapet and drummer of Sabaton ...
Sounds like the Swedish band lake of tears, good band, maybe it's the same singer I don't know if they're still going, my favourite album is forever autumn great album check it out
Its not the same singer
@@fredriknilsson6042 no they sound and play very similar
So Sabaton probably has nothing in common with Lake of Tears...🙄
@@pietg.6249 well this song sounds very similar to the stuff they do I can't say for the rest of it I don't know
Please react to more bad lads army I haven’t seen a part two, if there is one someone please let me know
And why are they singing a fucking sea shanty in the trenches??
Yet another reactor with "ZERO" respect for Sabaton, and Floor, for cutting the ending credits....Do the right thing, or take up a new hobby....UGH
