Man, I played in Grade 1 competition bands in the 60's and 70's and won dozens of individual competitions and all I can say is that I'm glad Stuart wasn't around back then...he's the best I've ever heard.
Dude is a piping stud. An absolute living legend! I especially love how he's almost fanatical about keeping his pipes in tune throughout. There's no "good enough" it's right or wrong.
This is what music has evolved to ,man I'm proud to be a piper ,pioneers don't understand boundaries and thank god for that ,really need to practice this slur thing it sounds awesome in the right tune
met Stuart when he played for the Chili Pipers in Rochester NY...the crowd was small so they hung out and drank beers with us for a long time. Just a bunch of cool humble guys... Have his autograph on the inside of my badge case which I carry to this day
I'm a local Rochestarian and love listening to Stuart play... I'm also a big Jack Lee, And Simon Frasier University Fan as well... Scotch games every year they come to NY. As well.. Play on boys!!
Such a joy to watch and listen to! But easy is it not! He makes it look easy but has obviously put the time and work in to become a true master. I am a terrible but enthusiastic piper but coach world class athletes. Most only see the gold medals and amazing performances but not the blood, sweat and tears it takes to be a great like Stuart Liddell! Amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely outstanding playing! Just - wow!! My current level of piping ability sounds a bit more like that few seconds where he's tuning his own drones at 4:49 ish :)
Does anyone know the names of last two tunes he plays? I know the first few are highland wedding hornpipe, crossing the minch, and pumpkins fancy. I like the last two tunes and I would like to learn them but I don’t know how to look up the music because I’ve never heard them before and I don’t know what they are called
@@lesliethomson2441 I know that all too well but ,bagpipes teaches more than music ,it teaches discipline, respect ,community spirit ,charity and self respect in one's growth ,don't be the best ,be the change
The first one was a mix of Highland Wedding 2/4 March and Hornpipe, second "Crossing the Minch", third "The Pumpkins Fancy", fourth is unknown to me, fifth is a Hornpipe or Jig I think you can hear in his performance for the MacRae pipes launch
Does anybody know what type/size bag Stuart is playing? I like how the firearms are sub parallel- the high goose neck “loop” looks highly efficient.. he’s a true master!
Wonderful. The only thing is, if anyone sat there and filmed all the dick around (reed warming and such) involved in getting warmed up for such an amazing performance, I hardly think any newcomers to the pipes would be born long after that.
IMHO, the tuning was more than fine for the setting. No need to disrupt the flow of the music just to get the tuning perfect. Finish the (very enjoyable) set then fix the tune before the next set. Of Stuart can do whatever he feels is best, and maybe his audience prefers perfect tuning over an uninterrupted musical performance. Not the right call for me though.

The original version of Cameronian Rant is already hard enough to play. Let’s take it ten steps further!
unreal version...
That last tune is unbelievable.
Loved every second of that! Pity it had to end..could very easily sit n listen to him playing all night!
Glad you enjoyed it

Absolutely no drone movement at all - perfect.
Stuart liddell is fucking amazing i have loved him from day I started playing bagpipes he is definitely a player made from birth.
And what he's done with the Inveraray & District Pipe Band is nothing short of amazing.
Stuart has been my favourite piper ever since I first heard him play on his Solo Piper LP. An inspiration. 👍
Gotta live it and love it, the point where you are too drunk to tune yersel, AND too drunk noo to play!
He had quite a few pints of Guinness at this stage 😆
Absolutely outstanding playing! Just - wow!! My current level of piping ability sounds a bit more like that few seconds where he's tuning his own drones at 4:49 ish :)
The very best...the magnificent Stuart Liddell at his very best. Brilliant
He is so awesome,- wow.
A Legend what a gift and so easy for him
This guy is a legent talent in the world!!!!
Bloody hell, you don't hear piping that good very often. Incredible playing!!!

The last tune is called Cameronian Rant. It's a competition Strathspey but rearranged here as a jig in 6/8 time
It's a hornpipee here not a Jig, Toole did that in a competition medley I think @@tu1949
You are one of the great bagpipers in the world. John Jørgensen Viborg Denmark
Brilliant!
He is definitely something to aspire too ,im glad bagpipes is still alive and men like this exsist, he does it because he loves it you can see that
Aspire you may, and MUST.
But few will make it

Good god those birls
Finally happy with tuning at 4:50 😂

Best piper
I wanna pipe like him when I grow up...which means I'd better live to 178.
(P.S. Stuart's family name is spelt Liddell.)
Apologies - corrected 😊
@@piperjohnmcshane Videos like this are little gems - thanks for sharing this !
@@piperjohnmcshane It's still spelt incorrectly as 'Liddle'
What’s that first tune called? Heard it a lot but can’t think of the name lol.
Highland Wedding - hornpipe version
@@piperjohnmcshane thanks so much

Pumpkin's Fancy
Where can I find the sheet music for the first tune
It’s in one of the Scots Guard books, it’s called Highland Wedding, but he jazzed it up.
What’s the name of the second song? The one after Highland Wedding.
Crossing the Minch
Well done from,, Ireland 🇮🇪
What is the name of te set tunes???
The money shot at 6:38
Sure sounds like a Tuck chanter he's playing.
Can someone give me the name of the medley or of all the tunes?

I'm 41, is it too late to learn bagpipes?
It's never too late mate
Im 46 and took it up a year ago!

It's a sheepskinbag. The bagshape has more length in the back (behind the Drones) and at the neck. You don't get this bag on the market ;)
Bagpipe God ❤
Loved the gunniess pint passed . Makes the the tune original
Fiscal bazar biniou braz
Is this in Friels?
It is indeed 😁
Brilliant. Effortless
Thumbs down only come from losers. Guys stuck in G4 for eternity.

. . .now, get your pipes on your shoulder and practice!
Great playing, but there's a chirp on his g gracenote birls that is driving me nuts.
Hate a show-off! 😅
Plays as if he is utterly bored with tunes he has run through hundreds of times.
