    Thank for the video! Mr Allen, would you consider to make a Rob Allen version of Riffe Travel series guns? I find it can be super handy to break into two and put in standard bags for travelling and also good for puting in the car for short distance spearfishing trips. Also keen to understand the pros and cons between timber guns and carbon guns. Cheers, Rui

      To make a gun that separates into 2 halves is not difficult. The problem is the spear. There is no way to make a spear screw together in the middle without seriously compromising the strength. You would be better off using a pole spear. If you watch the Timberline series you will see that the Timberline gun is way more balanced and, has more mass. The added balance and shape makes it much more maneuverable underwater than a standard gun. The added mass helps with recoil, improved recoil management helps greatly with accuracy.

      @@RobAllenSpearfishing Thank you Mr Allen. Not sure if a pole spear would be useful for big fishing hunting travels. I was wonder maybe for 120cm and above, it's worth of making them 2 halves, as they are mostly used for blue waters and less likely to hit a rock as often as in reefs? The timberline by the way look like less Rob Allen guns which are super reliable and trust worthy no matter how you abuse them. Timber line feels to me like a complicated luxury cars which you feel careful to use and maintain.

      @@ruitian8724 In order to get a gun smaller, you would be better off with a roller. A 100cm roller with double wrap can shoot the same as a 130cm non-roller. You could use the roller with a 130cm spear. Total length is them only 130cm with no complications of joints that can fail. Hitting rocks is not the problem with having a joint in the spear. the joint itself will be week and very likely to bend or break. Last thing you want when on an expensive dive trip to shoot gig game fish. what do you think is complicated on the Timberline range? The timber is not structural, just mass added mass and buoyancy to improve performance massively. If you do not maintain it the timber will get scuffed and scratched but in no way will this affect the guns performance.

    Any chance you could show load testing on ur wired fin shafts breaking strain, specifically when shooting line is connected to the fin loop? Also potentially how to prevent rust on shafts. Cheers

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  Před 11 měsíci

      Hi Glen, we have stopped making wire fins spears and finally moved over to the full welded fin. I do recall testing the wire fin years back and it also went well over 200kg. Regarding spears rusting, just one of those things, it has to be well maintained to prevent it happening. On a side note, we are working hard on a new coating process that improves the corrosion 4 x. We have been testing this a while now before introducing it. We should be up and running in the new year with it.

    • @glennsands6954
      @glennsands6954 Před 11 měsíci

      awesome, thanks heaps. will the welded tabs have a hole to connect shooting line to for enclosed track guns and guns with mechs that cant fit a spear with mono attached to the end of the shaft? how do you maintain the shaft besides rinsing in freshwater? cheers

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hi Glen, we are about to start with a welded fin that is 1,5mm higher and, with a hole through it to add a shooting line connection, still testing though. Regarding shaft maintenance, main thing is to keep it out of salt water 😜 Jokes aside, some wipe a thin coat of grease all over. A yachty I knew did this to his spears after every use and the spears were still fine 3 years later, living on his yacht full time. The best is to dry well and do not store in a damp place. The worsted thing to do is keep it in a saltwater damp gun bag with a wet floatline wrapped around the gun. This new coating will be way better but still will be damaged if left like this over time. It will just take 4 x longer.

    What year was that? Also, I had a quadruple bypass, and even 2 years later, my chest is still sensitive. I’ve got a 90, 120 and 130 RA, what’s the length of 14mm rubbers I should use? I’m off to Fiji for a spearfishing trip mid October

      I started tinkering around 40 years ago. All rubber lengths are on our website. rob@roballen.co.za find the gun you have and check in the description. The Snapper is set up with double 14mm rubbers roballen.co.za/?product=rob-allen-snapper

      There are so many variables, not easy to recommend. It depends a lot on the species you are hunting and where you are hunting. Water visibility is a big part, open water, cave etc.
