      Sadly the source of confusion for the vast majority of black folks including those of mixed ethnicity identifying as black, regardless of the nationality, is they still continue to use a pseudo ethnic science from a by-gone era to determine race. A pseudo science, not based in genetics science but rather racism, which taught if you have as little as 1% black blood that makes you are black. A myth that has been debunked several times over but still perpetuated within the black communities.

    I’m just seeing this video. I know my comment is soo late 😅 but I wanted to add that besides just random genes coming together from both your mom and dad, and acknowledging that your Jamaican mom may have some European ancestry in her, it’s important to note that it’s probably half African and half European because Black Americans tend to have a good percentage of European DNA as well. It’s also likely that it’s cut half and half like that because your grandmother has a very high percentage of European DNA and she’s not an ancestor. The closer in time someone is to you (concerning your relatives), the more likely you may have a very high percentage of that DNA in you.

    @michaeltaylor8501 Před 8 měsíci

    They didn't state that you have wavy hair & stretch-marks. They merely gave you some odds of having such based upon what they thought at the time your DNA mix would likely yield.
    They weren't completely wrong - they weren't even partially wrong for the information that they had at that time,* because they were only talking about chances (& you merely "beat the odds" on some of the catagories).

    What could explain the result is daughters of sons get more DNA from their paternal grandmother because she passes down the X unchanged to the daughter from the son. • @Willem2761
      @Willem2761 Před rokem

      The son gets a X chromosome from his mother and a Y chromosome from his father. Meaning 50% of his X is from the maternal grandfather and 50% from the maternal grandmother. So 50% is from the maternal greatgrandmother, 25% from the other maternal greatgrandmother and 25% the maternal greatgrandfather. There are charts online which show you which ancestor gave you which percentage of the X chromosome. Thats why most DNA companies exclude the X chromosome.

  • @taylorleeforcongress8470
    @taylorleeforcongress8470 Před 2 lety +8

    You inherit 50% randomly from each parent, so if one parent is full black and one is full white, you are guaranteed to be half and half. But, if each parent is half and half already, because it's random you could get just the African, or just the European from each parent. Because it's random, you will average 1/4 mom's European, 1/4 mom's African, 1/4 dad's European, 1/4 dad's African to be 100% you. But that's just averages, it is possible two half and half parents could make a full European or full African child, though these extremes would be extraordinarily rare.
    Anyway, that's where the weird numbers come from.

    Pretty easy explanation.
    Here it goes :
    Most African Americans have about a quarter European. 15- 25 percent.
    Thus your mum can have as much as 25% European.
    Your dad being half African and half European would have not 50% European but closer to 60- 65%.
    Thus your breakdown:
    Dad : Europe 65 Africa 35
    Mum: Europe 25 Africa 75
    Yourself : Europe 45 Africa 55
    Also inheritance is random so it’s likely you inherited more European than African genes.
    Hope this helps.

    The Sahara Desert stretches across much of the northern part of Africa. The entire area of Africa that's beyond this huge desert is what's known as Sub-Saharan Africa.
    One or both of uour grandparents from one set of your grandparents might not have inherited all European DNA. Likewise your dad might not have inherited the maximum amount of European DNA that could have possibly been inherited.
    As I understand it - if I understand it - each egg & each sperm cell only carries a fraction of a family line's full DNA possibilities - & not every egg carries the same, & not every sperm cell carries the same mix (nor the same purportions of any otherwise similar mix); so, there's many possibilities/chances that go into making each individual & this is why even syblings can differ quite a bit (or not).

    Tbh I don't trust the results fully, the default setting is at 50% confidence, find the tab that says DNA painting on a computer or laptop and there will be a percentages you can choose from, I'm Puerto Rican and my European went from 64.1% to 46.2%, Native American was pretty stable though 17.9%-16.4% as well as my African percentage went from 12.2-11% my biggest discrepancy in the percentage that dropped off was North African and west Asian which went from 4.3-1.4% meaning almost 70% of that region being in my final DNA results where basically a guesstimate aka made up lol. They said in their early years that it was more for entertainment and it still kind of is in my opinion although I do respect that they are able to tell who you're related to and able to somewhat accurately categories what you might be but it's definitely not to a T, I did the math on what I most likely am my self based on There certainty and just looked at how consistently by each 10% of how confident they are my percentages dropped and average them out with different mathematic equations and I came with a couple different percentages but they're all within the same ballpark and here's what I came to be in my opinion I'm anywhere from 51 to 58% European which averages out to 54.5% anywhere from 23 to 28% Native American which averages out to 25.5% anywhere from 15 to 19% African which averages out to 17% and lastly anywhere from 0.7 to 1.7% North African and West Asian which averages to about 1.2% which still leaves 2.8% to be unassigned but much better than when I clicked on their 90% confidence of what I am and I had 25% of my DNA unassigned meaning 25% of my DNA at 90% confidence was an absolute guess and at 100% confidence that would be at over 30% if the unassigned kept being consistent this is on 23 and me by the way I don't know about ancestry although I do know at the end of the day this is business and I'm pretty sure these companies need to be somewhat consistent with each other in terms of their percentages or else there will be way too much speculation to go around if their percentages were way different that would leave they're most likely guesstimated results to be of less value and instead of trying to expose each other they would rather beat each other in terms of marketing I do believe that the percentages that I calculated were probably more accurate because when I looked at the physical traits category my traits were off as well I have what they would call big and small curls a combination of both and it said that I had a 7% chance of big curls and a 3% chance a small curls when my highest percentage was around 40% for wavy hair that's mostly straight when no one in my family has that hair texture the least course hair texture they have they have is wavy hair with some curls for the most part most of my family has very curly hair naturally unless due to age and hormone changes many of the older people in my family have had their hair become more straight but they did have curly afros when they were younger along with other physical traits that I thought were off I'm glad to see someone had the same type of reaction that I did and knew something was off and unfortunately the majority accept anything that is labeled as science and don't question it because they believe that everything that is conducted in the name of science is honest when in reality even though there is a lot of Truth to the DNA testing a lot of it is also guess work and if they ever admitted that it would lower its value

    These tests tend to be quite accurate when it comes to determining the percent European versus Sub Saharan African. The individual countries though are harder to pinpoint and may well change some as they refine the results in the future. Plus different DNA companies will vary. Obviously none of the modern African countries existed at the time of the slave trade so they are looking at people's tribal backgrounds and assigning the most probable country to it. In some ways it would be better to just tell people the historic tribes their DNA most closely matches. A lot of the same can be said for parts of Europe. Some countries saw so many migrations that its tough. The Middle East to North African is historically considered part of the Caucasian race although obviously mixing went on because the Arabs engaged in the slave trade even before the Europeans.

    You’re a mixed race person so your trait percentages will reflect this. When you get a higher percentage of one trait or another, it doesn’t mean they got it wrong if you don’t have that trait. It just means you have a higher likelihood of getting or not getting a trait. If you get a trait that is predicted highly that you wouldn’t, then that just means you fell in the smaller likelyhood. And with the ancestry, it’s likely your black American and black Jamaican sides both has European ancestry so hence you’re nearly half black and half white. The mixed race you are has a name, in English it is called m u l a t t o.

    You get 50% from your father, 50% of your mother. That would make you 100%.
    HOWEVER, this doesn't mean you get the same pieces of DNA as your siblings would have with the same parents. Even a twin wouldn't have that.
    This means you could have more European in you then your parents or siblings, funny but true.
    Jamaica was a British colony that used slaves, but I don't think this should weigh too heavily as the British were the first to take it up them selves to end slavery everywhere using their own treasury and navy. This is also why you later got a civil war in what is now the US. If the British didn't pull so heavily on ending slavery we still would have it today. Only ones that didn't stop is countries within Africa and Middle-East. Within Asia you would have China, India and a few others that still use it as well to this day.
    I think you are already aware that the surname "Prince" is a British one. So somewhere a black female ancestor in your family probably married a white British man receiving that surname.
    For the physical features part, well to be fair it is what your DNA tells them. DNA is a hard thing at this day and age to figure out, so you got always odd things appearing. If you would look over time to the results again they might have been adjusted as more knowledge gets gathered and thus your results can be more precise. Also your DNA can tell a lot about your, without your knowledge or being able to actually see it. In this one you are rather over reacting to something you simply don't have the knowledge about, which is fine. But it isn't fine to get upset over it. You chose to do this, they gave you what they could find which clearly is stated can not be 100% perfect as they still area learning a lot of new things regarding DNA..
    For the health section, while no panic needs to happen it would be foolish to ignore it. Even if it's not as accurate as going to a hospital and have them directly search for these things, it's a estimation and not precise science. So yes you might see odd things but I wouldn't completely dismiss it either. That would be again not knowing the topic well enough before starting to scream. A lot of people unfortunately have this flaw. If there is something on the list that's worrying you, you might as well visit the doctor and see if a investigation can be started so they can either dismiss or proof this to you. Even if it's a future possibility it's better to prepare then to ignore it.
    Something they state clearly, ESTIMATION. They never stated FACT.
    So no need to scream about it.
    For your DNA matches, yes if they find family trough DNA, you got these people in your family. No way around it, this DNA part is well documented and very much solid evidence, even in court.
    "who are these white people", yeah better not say that as it's hinting towards racism. Better not say it like that, could have said "who are these 2 men?". Why do I say this? Let's turn it around. A white person stating the same about black people would be instantly seen as racism these days. So please be careful with that, not a real positive thing to state.
    Regarding the different companies doing such tests, each has a different way of testing and will test on different things. So you could get completely different results if you have no clue what they do before you start the tests.
    If you wish to know a broader picture to see what is going on, I would advice you to ask your parents, their parents and your siblings to do these tests as well. This will ensure you that you got at least a better picture of the puzzle.

    I haven't seen anyone mention it, but the Ancestry communities are built from your matches, so you will have quite a lot of matches that are from distant cousins that are from, or have built family trees and have ancestors from Jamaica. The Ethnicity Estimate and percentages are created by comparing your DNA to reference populations they have for certain regions of the world and people who have also bought the tests. Some countries/regions are more likely to be accurate than others as if not many people have tested in one there won't be much of a sample population with DNA on record to compare against. As more people test your results should get updated and in theory should become more accurate.
    Finally when I think you said your mum is 100% black unless she's tested and is 100% of African ethnicity you just don't know this. As you suggested early in the video, Jamaica being a British colony, and without going in to too much detail when the slave trade was happening, female slaves, I've read, often had children fathered by their slave owners, so I would expect if your mum was tested she would have quite a lot European ancestry (not nice to think about, but it happened, sadly). The same is likely true on your father's side as well, if one of his parents is African American. You could also be getting some of the England and Northwestern Europe from your Irish grandparent as Ireland was effectively a colony as well and there will have been some mixing from English people who want to Ireland and intermarried with the Irish population.

Like Mexicans, there are a lot of Mexicans that don’t like white people but the reality is their most likely 40-50 percent white themselves. Because when you do dna testing they don’t count Mexican they count your native and European. Because since north and South American are so diverse and new, like if you Canadian their not gonna say your 40-50 percent Canadian. Well, if you let your hair grow, maybe it will become wavy. I don’t know why black women cut their hair. Unless somethings going on with them other than that, the black woman never cut their hair. I didn’t see not to take care of it or trimming or something like that to shave it like a man’s hair I do not understand. And excuse I get all the time they don’t have time to do it that’s ridiculous to me a sign of laziness. I guess they don’t wash that backside either. No I’m not talking about this particular lady because I don’t know her. But she’s still not cutting her hair. She does not have to.

    People who say there are black means they just identify with that…. it doesn’t mean they’re 100% African black 😂😂
