  • Ryan Fernandez' culinary career started as a side gig. Now, the chef - born in India and raised in Ireland and Texas - is whipping up unique dishes, combining the flavors of his childhood with Southern classics. Jeff Glor reports.

    OMG mouth is watering my goodness gracious this look simply delicious! I like his style of cooking mixing his heritage into the food. But never tasted anything like this before.
    He needs to open one up in NYC seriously come! Please 🙏🏽

    Have eaten at Southern Junction multiple times and it’s amazing! The woman also has a business, Flat #12, that grows and sells mushrooms.

    Why Fernandez? Is his dad Mexican

      Not sure why you default to Mexican. There’s way more than one country with that surname.
      It’s also not uncommon to find the Fernandez name (as well as other Spanish and Portuguese surnames) in some Indian states. A byproduct of colonialism.

      Portugal had a colony in Kerala India and some locals adopted Portuguese/Spanish surnames - maybe he got it from there.
