  • Not all hand-made whistles are expensive...and some are quite unique.

Thanks for the recommendations Stephen. I had been struggling with a Walton’s D and to a lesser extent a Clarke Sweettone D (still had harsh upper registers even with blu tack tweak) for about a month when I saw your video and took your advice to order a Becker and Dixon. The Becker came already and it’s amazing. All of the notes on the upper register are clear and all around it does exactly what I’m trying to get it to do. It’s a relief to know the problem with the upper register wasn’t just poor breath control

I have a D from LeQuin which nice for the price. It has a mellow, quiet tone. The wood block is somewhat roughly finished, more attention to smoothing the wood would make it more comfortable on one's lips. I have the Bessie blue's scale form Tahake which is very nice, a pleasing, unique sound. Nothing from Whistlesmith. And a dozen whistles from Mr. Becker. These I recommend fully. Well tuned, and at the prices Mr. Becker charges he obviously makes them for the love of his craft more than as a business.
