  • More people will fail than will pass the amazon interview. This leaves thousands of people, every week asking themselves "Why Did I Fail My Amazon Interview?". Without being in the room I can't tell you exactly why, but in thousands of hours of interviewing at Amazon I can tell you there are some very common reasons- one of which I'd put money on will answer your question "why did I fail my Amazon interview?". And the great thing about this is once you have a good sense of "why did I fail my Amazon interview?, when you try again, you can avoid making the same mistakes.

    Thanks to you. The AWS recruiter (UK) had shared your videos to help me prep for the loop interviews. I had 6 rounds of loop because I was considered for two roles (L6, L7 programme manager, business development) in the same division. The recruiter called today and informed that I'm not selected and gave feedback: I was not fit for the specific roles interviewed for and I can apply to other roles... interviewers felt I displayed core Amazonian principles like ownership, trust, etc. I am taking this as a positive sign that something went well and I can look at other roles after some time. Now, I am able to appreciate the scope, complexity aspects which you explain here.

    Hi Gigi! Thank you for the awesome video and all around great content. Another rejection reason to add here is personality fit. I was contacted by a recruiter after finishing my loop and was told that my interview itself went well and I raised the bar however the interviewers did not feel I was the best fit personality wise for their specific team. It stung at first but after time, I came to appreciate the feedback and would have had a horrible experience working with people who didn’t feel I was “one of them” or thought I didn’t fit in.
    The great news, I tried again (on my own, no recruiter help with interview placement or introductions), had a genuine blast during the loop with the interviewers and…. got the offer with another team! Couldn’t be happier!
    Hoping this helps someone who may have gotten the same/similar feedback. Keep trying! Try to find happiness in not being placed somewhere purely based on your talent without considering your experience and relationships with those you’d be working with. Not saying this is right or wrong, but I am saying I’m grateful I wasn’t hired to be part of a team who wouldn’t have fully accepted me beyond my talents and skill set.

    • @amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503
      @amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503  Před 2 lety

      WTF!!!!!!!!! There is no way personality fit is an acceptable reason for rejecting a candidate. Functional skill or Leadership performance only. That’s truly shocking and goes against the entire philosophy of the process. I have NEVER heard of this as a rejection reason before. I’m horrified!

      @@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 I was shocked at first too. It took months before I applied again to be honest. Hi GG .. First of all a Big Thank You for all your content and videos. I had my loop in the last week of July and the outcome was communicated last week. The outcome was not favorable and like you rightly said - no specific feedback was shared. It was highly depressing after spending hours and hours for preparation, going through several prep material sources and giving your best shot.
    However I would also like to take this opportunity to call out that 100% of the questions that were asked to me were from your question bank. I downloaded your question bank weeks before the interview and practiced from all Leadership Principles. Your question bank also contained two additional principles - "Strive to be Earth's best employer" and "Success and Scale bring broad responsibility". And guess what - there was one question around DEI from your question bank ;). All in all I want to Thank you again for the awesome videos that you are putting up which are closest to the actual hiring process in Amazon. Wish me luck for the next attempt :) !

    Your videos were very helpful! Keep them up! I actually got an offer but it was much lower than my current job, not even taking high cost of living where the job is located into account, so I ultimately declined.
    I did get multiple repeat questions from at least 3-4 people out of 5 interviewers on the panel interview. Is that normal? I had a good amount of stories prepared for the interview but having the same questions asked multiple times stumped me as I didn't have a unique situation to talk about each time. I think this ultimately lead to the low ball offer because they said they didn't think I had enough experience for a Sr role. This was a role in their Consumer Finance org.

    • @amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503
      @amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503  Před 2 lety +2

      My advice when people think they’re getting the same question is to tell the interviewer that someone has already asked that question and tell them you’re going to provide the same answer unless they tell you otherwise. They normally then just pick a new question. Having multiple repeat questions is very unusual as everyone is assigned different leadership principles. If it happens it’s more usually between phone screens and loop.

    Hi Gigi, Thank you for outstanding videos. It helps me so much. I faced a difficult situation. Going by the first reason, a lot of candidates be lieing about what they did not do in a situation the interviewer asks from them... just to make it be like they actually fit into the role been interviewed for... this could make or has made interviewers hire a lot of unqualified candidates

    When the candidate spends many many hours and months preparing and studying and taking leaves and day offs and being under stress due to many interviews with many people, then I believe the candidate deserves to get a feedback on why he/she got rejected , am I right? Unfortunately, I didn't get a feedback and instead I have given a feedback on few things about the whole recruitment process which I'm sorry to say it was horrible (interview delay, postponed, people was not on time and unwelcome faces, etc...). Anyways I took this experience as a learning curve for me and refreshing my wonderful experience that I am proud of.

    • @amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503
      @amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503  Před rokem

      I’m sorry to hear your experience wasn’t smooth. Amazon like many corporates doesn’t give feedback. 2 main reasons 1) risk of litigation- it’s all too easy for a disgruntled candidate to misconstrued or misinterpret well meaning feedback, turn it into something it wasn’t and sue. Amazon has to protect its shareholders from that risk. Obviously most will not but it only takes one person to ruin it for everyone. 2) protecting its employees- candidates will make assumptions about who a particular piece of feedback came from. We are all very accessible through social media and again it’s far too easy for a disgruntled candidate to maliciously target an interviewer. Obviously the majority wouldn’t but it only takes one person to spoil it for everyone. So although, I agree it would be great for candidates to get specific feedback on what they could have done better on, companies owe their shareholders and current employees a duty of protection far more than they owe candidates a duty of career development.
