đ· ABOUT US đ·
We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
Today we begin with securing our property and building homestead security on our land. Step one is building a gated and fenced driveway. Installing a galvanized metal driveway gate, using cattle panels for a fenced entrance, and large wood posts for maximum security. Let's face it, things like this are really for keeping honest people honest.

Mansions are highly overrated! Owning a home and land is amazing.. the gate looks so good!
Too much to clean!! :) Thanks!
I'm on Team Angela with the hanging baskets. Some nice Seasonal flowers in some baskets will accent the entrance BIGTIME. Hoping all is well guys, Dirty Jersey out!!!
No to the hanging baskets. Daily make work project.
đ»đđ»đđ
Putting up a gate at the road for security makes sense. We have cameras around our property. I don't need to be robbed or someone getting hurt. I don't people tresspassing.
I vote yes to the hanging baskets. They would be so cute and we know how much Angela loves flowers.
Put you a t-post up so when you open the gate it won't open too far and damage the gate. Plus if you need to leave it open you have a post to secure it to!! Just a thought...I agree, need some hanging baskets on those posts!
That laugh when Sam sat on the gate. đ
Sam tossing those big posts around reminds me of Highland games. He just needs some plaid.
Lol Sam in a kilt interesting.
Angela's idea of flower baskets denoting the seasons on the posts is very good, I can picture the entrance decked out for Thanksgiving, and then decked out for Christmas with lights ( battery operated, of course) and all the Christmas accessories as well ! The neighbors are going to like it ! God bless you and the boys !
Sounds like great ideas to us!
Itâs going to be even more beautiful when youâve planted your avenue of trees along the driveway.
Oh yes!!!
cool. Remember that the trees will overhang the driveway. So either go short fruit trees or very tall hardwoods. If doing fruit trees leave 20 feet between driveway outer edge to center of tree hole. If doing hardwoods leave at least 40 feet from outer driveway edge to center of tree hole.
This way the side branches will not scratch the car/mini van while the tree is growing. And when it is fully grown the tops of the trees will have plenty of room to lightly cover the driveway but not have to be butchered bcuz they are too close and the canopy can sprawl and form naturallly.
Maybe some climbing Rose's for along the angled cattle panels for security and beauty at the same time.
Just a suggestion.
Very nice , solar lights on the post would be great!
What a nice entrance !! You guys sis an amazing job đ
I can see Angelaâs hanging baskets on the posts already đ
âCook for yourself, then â đłđ€Ł
She sure knows the magic words !!!
Yep! That gate never opened so quick! LOLOL
I'm impressed ,what a nice Change. The gate says we're here and welcome home....hugs
Iâd say itâs exciting to go from everything on a hillside to a perfectly flat piece of land!
It really is!! And so much room for taking things we've only been able to DREAM of doing on a homestead to reality... in due time. :)
The bloopers at the end đđđ love it!! God bless you all!
I see hanging flowers on those post come Spring! You could put solar lights on them, hang Christmas greenery, lots of Ideas!
My idea too.
Aww kids being kids in wide open spaces! â€ïž
So happy for you both in your new adventure in life. My prayer is for your continued good health. Prayers for you.
Gosh darn it...the "no girls allowed" followed by the quick "turn around" got me!đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Hanging baskets! That would go alone with a climbing rose or something on the cattle panels lol đ
If I had a pound for every hanger and slammer post I've put in the ground over the years... I wouldn't be rich, but it would add up.
Amazing how much better it looks just getting that job done. It really starts to pull the whole, 'we're living and working here,' thing together.
Angela's face when hanging baskets were mentioned, followed by Sam's realisation of what he said was priceless. đ€
Take care, everyone.
Edited to add: a branch from the woods can make a great tamper. đ
The gate on the 4x4: as the The Perkins Bros say "that's one way to do it!" đ Y'all aren't wasting any time at all! Such a great entrance, it looks nice, but it means business!
I love watching the Perkins Brothers!! They're not but a few hours away!
Smart idea not to cement one of the posts!, The smiles say it all ! â€ïž
You could hang solar-powered LED lanterns on the posts - pretty and useful at night!
The gate is one of the best things you can do! Eliminate vehicle traffic and that 99% of the problem! We love our gate!
At least two bird house's placed on top. Also you need to angle the top of the post or cover with tin to prevent water from sitting up on top of post.
Gate and fence makes the whole property look so different. It will be great when you all get to move out there permanently. Love your soaps. God bless!
Very awesome. I would say just skip the concrete in the holes. In our experience, just backfilling with dirt is the best and we've seen concrete cause problems for the posts.
I follow your channel too - thank goodness you did that video on how to line and install the windows - haven't seen that in any of the other renovations here on CZcams. Your new doors are beautiful and yes, :) probably the glass that makes them so heavy.
I add in dry quick mix concrete then dump about a gallon of water in and use a stick to jam in and stir it. With mine, there was hardly enough room for the post to go down the hole but theyâre rock solid! Already had the big propane delivery truck slide on the ice of my driveway and run into it. Didnât move a centimeter!!
Yes hanging basket on the post!! That would look amazing driving in! Yâall have a beautiful place.
It is awesome what you two have done ! I also like the idea of hanging baskets on the post. Cause you mentioned that you wanted to have trees đł up both sides of the driveway that would look đ really nice đ Canât wait to see more !
Thanks!! Oh yes, sounds wonderful!
I'm 3 minutes in. The victory "AH!" when Sam sat on the fence was great. I kackled. Haha
Hanging baskets sound great on the posts. Maybe solar powered lights?
IT IS COMING ALONG NICELY GUYS AND I LOVE THE TALL POSTS, THE SMILE ON ANGELA'S FACE REALLY DID SAY IT ALL.
The auger is cool and all, but a real homestead needs a post hole digger and a spud bar! đ Solar lights on the posts would be sharp.
Sounds like great gifts for the boys! LOL Seriously... I want a spud bar & tamper!!
Post hole diggers are the only thing I ever used, use. Mine are about 40 years old and still good to go.
@@dalecherry4044 same here, was just using our this week to reset some railroad tie posts, to hang new gates in our corral. No pesky engines to frustrate and annoy đ.
Sam, your âbackdropâ where youâre put your home is almost a scene from a Norman Rockwell painting! Especially with Elijah riding by on his bike! Iâm so very happy for you all! God bless you and Happy Thanksgiving ( in case I get busy ).đ
YOU ARE WELCOME HERE ANYTIME- I WILL WALK YOU IN! This is 100% how me and my hubby bug one another for fun.
Good evening Sam and Angela , wonderful to see you once again .
Hello there!
Baby steps. One day you'll automate that gate. Awesome
Sam and Angelia the new gate and cattle guards looks amazing it sets of the entrance perfect love you guys â€đđšđŠ
Maybe some type of solar lights on the posts to help mark driveway at night ,,,, might even look good LOL
Honestly you guys are awesome, we love watching you guys build your homestead! We are in the middle of building ours but further behind than you guys. Thanks for the inspiration
That is awesome that we inspire you guys! Good luck with your build!
Maybe some climbing flowers/vines on the wire sections?
The entrance with all the color looks like a million dollar piece of property. Congratulations!
Thanks!
i agree with angela, hanging baskets bright red flowers....
Angela loves loves flowers. I'm trying to catch up on all your videos. I enjoy each one. Your entrance looks Grand. See you all next time. Hi boys.
Oh yes Angela hanging baskets and also old fashioned climbing roses over the cattle panels - in the colour you love or in this current world the colour you can find
My ideas too.
Issac, could not have said it better! That entrance really looks nice. Angelaâs smile!. Great idea Sam, Hanging baskets, no going back now..LOL
That gate and fencing is awesome it makes it look private.đđœ
Hi, Looking good, as any home should!!! I love how the entire family gets in on the jobs at hand. I can't wait to see the finished product, with your imaginations it should be fantastic!!! Take care, stay safe and healthy. Hugs.
I agree with Angela and everyone else hanging flowers would be pretty, but you also take a chance someone taking them. Maybe climbing roses on each side on the cattle panel that would be so pretty. What an entrance. ANGELA I NOTICED THAT YOU ARE LOOSING WEIGHT LOOKING GOOD.
I see you losing weight! Good for youđ. Now to get him to before he has a heartattack before he's 50đđđ
âŠItâs always a blessing to watch both of you youngsters build your relationship and helping one another. Keep up the good workâŠ
Man I love watching you guys what a joy it is to see this family and these videos. I bright spot in todays world...
Love the look of the entrance. Your new property is really shaping up.
I see a lot of gates right at the edge of the road. I'm super glad you left room for a tow vehicle & trailer to get off the road then enter the gate. This is how it should be in my opinion.
Good job, well done!
Yes leave the posts long to accommodate seasonal decorations. Especially with Christmas coming up soon. Some solar twinkling lights would be super kool.
Oh yes! We knew we needed room to open/close the gate and didn't want to have to stop in the road. Plus we had to make sure our setbacks from the road right of way were maintained. :) Great idea for decorations!
Coming right along..........
Definitely like the look of the taller posts, gives the look of a more stately entrance, I would think about cutting off the excess thread of the post holders just to give it a cleaner finished look.
Good call!
I remember from the last gate you put up at your main home , that you were told to place one of the gate bolts pointing down so the gate couldnt be removed by anyone breaking in and I see that you have done it this time , brilliant looking strong gate too Sam.
Oh yes... I knew I had better do it right this time!!! LOL I knew SOMEONE would remember! Hahaha
Iâm with Angela! I think hanging flower baskets would brighten up the driveway!
Ooh itâs all shiny and new! đ€© looks awesome đ
I like it. You are about 2 months ahead of me on similar projects. Should prove to be helpful.
Keep working at it yall will finely get what u want . ON the post set them in gravel they will last 3 or 4 times as long as long as you tamp it well.
Live within your means - SMART MOVE
Got my soaps today! Smelled wonderful. Rose one is my fav!
Yay!! So happy you like them, thanks for your order from us!
How exciting!! Showed this to hubby, I want this set up on our tree farm! Keep the poachers out!! Maybe a couple tall gate posts for a sign. Great job!!
Love the entrance .Don't forget to secure the camper with tracking devices and post your No Trespassing signs.
Love your bloopers at the end of this video đ
GOOD IDEA to establish the front entryway to your homeâŠzI canât wait to see the finished project!! đđđŒđđ„°đŁ
I love the bloopers at the end of your videos, they make me smile and make my day. Thank you for sharing them. You guys are great and I love you. đ God bless you! đđ
solar lights would look great on those post !
I like hanging basket idea. I was thinking morning glories growing next to the fencing. But whatever ya'll want. Oh yeah the "outtakes" are great. :)
I like the posts tall. Id put solar lights on top of each post. And i like the idea of the hanging planters. And how about a rock garden around the first posts. The kids would have fun collecting them. My grandkids did.
Can definitely see Angela placing some pretty hanging baskets on those posts now. Lots of cool opportunities for your âgrand entrance â. Love it you guys.
use the extra length for lights
What I like about you guys is you seem like you would be the same whether the camera was "rolling" or not...I mean im sure there's some yelling occasionally and disagreements but you both seem very genuine. In a world full of fake people and fake videos its refreshing. Thanks for keeping it real
We really appreciate that observation! We like to think we are similar. :) For us, life is too short to fake yourself or not just be yourself... unless you're a terrible person. Hahaha
Sitting on the gate, I like it
You all do awsome work. The entrance looks great, maybe some reflectors on the posts by the road.
I love the idea of hanging baskets and solar lights! It would be beautiful! You guys tickle me, love your little family!
Good job! đšđŠ
You had great helpers Sam and Angela
The best ones to be found on the land! :)
I love seeing the boys! Take care and God bless.
Some vining flower plants would look stupendous, too!
Id put solar lights on the top of the posts...good job guys youbare doing so well
Great job putting the posts in and installing your gate Sam and Angela
You have a great place to raise your family and latter grand babies. There's nothing wrong with your home, you have done all of the inside and some of the outside. Your home is all yours and no one can take it away from your family. Yes u don't like the outside of your home but in time it will be all done the way you want. Take one day at a time. And if people around u guys don't like it that's there problem not yours.
Welcome to Tennessee my friends. The dirt is wet it's red slime the dirt is dry it's red rock glad to have you in our state.
We're finding that to be so true!! LOL We're so looking forward to moving here permanently!
Yâall are making some progress! Looking good!! So happy for yâall! And that is my saying too! âIt is what it isâ!!! Lol
Put a few reflector lights on your post for night time, it makes it a little easier found in your driveway down those on country roads
The setting for your homestead is so beautiful. The look from the road is to dream for - beautiful trees protecting and enfolding your home. BTW, I think about you every time I wash my hands with your fragrant soap!
We feel so blessed to have been able to get the land. It's hard to tell in videos, but from where we'll put the home we'll have views of the mountains we used to live in from the front windows and porches. :) Thank you so much for your support of our small business, we're so happy you enjoy the soap!
Hey have you thought about putting a wheel on that gate. It does make it easier to open. Just a thought. You can get them a TSC. Love y'all.
Or harbor freight
So good to see your homestead taking shape, amazing how a front gate marks off your home territory. Exciting times ahead for you all!
Absolutely!!
Looks great. One or two t post between the wood post would help take the sway out of the panels.
Good idea!
The entrance looks great. I am excited about the hanging baskets. God bless you.
Love the smiles đđđ„°. Excellent job xx
Proud of your single wide! It is really nice and it is yours! That makes it your mansion! Dreams being fulfilled! One step at a time!
Put some beautiful big wreaths for Xmas decorations! On the gate and entrance
Maybe we'll soon get to upgrade the exterior to match the interior too. :) It would help appearances for sure!
Love what you did! Both the gravel and the entrance to the property. I am so impressed with you guys!
Not quite the 'Ponderosa' entrance, but looks very swish. I think it looks great.
Great job and good progress. You guys are hitting it hard and fast and having fun doing so.
It's looking great and it is nice to have that bit of "hey folks, private property".........message by the fence and gate being there. Good job. Enjoy!
Blessings
Lol, hang flower baskets luv it đ»
Love y'all. You are inspiring and real. Congratulations on all your hard work.
Aww, thanks!!
I can just picture pretty hanging baskets on those posts. You may want to plant some nice trees/shrubs in that area later down the line so keeping the posts high will look in place?
You guys are going like a house a fire!! A gate to keep out the riff raff lol. I love watching. Sam riding the four wheel sitting on a gate singing donât fence me in lol. We started out with one of those drills on our tractor for posts, that turned out to not be good for us, then we bought a fence post pounder better for all the fencing we had to do on 107 acres. So watch game is this Pac-Man eating dirt or spaced out invaders of the farm land lol. Through bolt is a much better choice speaking from experience.
We really want to fence the perimeter sooner than later. When that day comes, we'll rent a post pounder from the farmer's co-op to install the wood posts properly. :)
LOL - that TN hardpan makes a little Kubota backhoe cry too (ask me how I know). Especially in the fall when things are really dry...been there - done that.
Shoo wee!!
Like they say "Good fences make good neighbors"
Yes!!! We are strong believers of that saying -- too many times where "if there was only a fence" would have helped so much! We'll fence our land as soon as we can. :)
