Douglas Ross slams 'same excuses' from John Swinney over education

  • New First Minister John Swinney has been challenged to be “clear and straight” with the public on whether the Scottish Government will stick to a commitment he made to increase teacher numbers.
When Mr Swinney served as education secretary in 2021, the SNP pledged to increase the number of teachers in classrooms by 3,500 over the current five-year parliamentary term.
With teacher numbers having fallen and amid concerns that Scotland’s largest local authority, Glasgow City Council, could cut hundreds of teaching posts, he was pressed on the issue in his debut session of First Minister’s Questions since succeeding Humza Yousaf earlier this week.
While Mr Swinney said he wants to make sure Scotland has a “well supported and substantial” number of teachers, he added: “I have to live in the real world of the public finances available to me.”

No party in Scotland seems to want to confront the issue that smaller class sizes haven’t led to better educational outcomes than in England. Primary classes in England have about 3.5 more students than those in Scotland. In PIRLS reading tests for 10-year-olds (that Scotland Doesn’t choose take part in) England came 5th out of 57countries - right at the top, along with Ireland and Northern Ireland. At 15, PISA scores for English students in maths, English and reading, show they are 27 months’ learning ahead of those in Scotland. More teachers aren’t going to solve that - better schools’ organisation and a knowledge-based curriculum delivery, as in England, could change things.

@AnnePhillips-kj4kq industry and the opposition parties all advised the Greens and SNP that the DRS scheme was utterly flawed and could not be rolled out. The Greens did not seek UK approval on it in the stipulated time period either. This is one reason Biffa is suing the Scottish government now. FA to do with "Westminster Tories". 🤡

His own community call him “ the child catcher “ after the chitty chitty bang bang film . They have been leaving because of the Westminster Tories catastrophe failure on economics on mortgages and a tax system and interest rates at record levels . Yet again blaming the victims for being Tory victims , the Tories deregulation of the banks and pensions allowed private companies to rob the population blind . All the money that was once held by the government at would become pension were handed over to the private sector. The money was used to build schools, hospitals , infrastructure ,when the Tories handed it over to their big city friends . Embezzlement , corruption and the criminality of the Westminster Tories are now leading to the collapse and crumbling of society.

Here’s the guy who’s the puppet of his Westminster masters and working in the same way as HAMAS is in GAZA . Happy to show his colonist beliefs and their horrific behaviour and suffering their are causing in Scotland under London rule . Yet, he and Westminster masters are the perpetrators of all Scotland troubles because they hold the purse strings are still blaming their victims . His Westminster friends said “ we are giving Scotland an extra £1.5 billion “ on the same week as they removed £1.8 billion from their budget . That money was taken from the children’s health budget and children have died and are still dying because the theirs rerouted the cash to a Union Selection Committee. Who’s sole purpose is to “ destabilise the SNP and the Yes campaign by ALL and ANY means , that’s with the help of the Westminster sponsored media . Dougie Ross sat with Boris’s Johnson when he wrote the words and he signed up to do is duty for the Tories masters . If he ,like all those colonists, love colonialism that much why don’t they just move to a Colonist run country with a Tory and colonist parliament in the land of colonialism. The big question is “ WHY don’t they go “. It’s like all those people who move to a country that they share nothing with , why would you do that .

No one but John Swinney is responsible for promises made by John Swinney. Likewise his inability to give a straight answer to a straight question. Saying "I'm going to be straight with the Scottish people" while refusing to give a simple answer to a simple question is poundshop politics of the worst and most pathetic kind. Only delusional fantasists who think the SNP is infallible and Westminster and the Tories are to blame for everything would be satisfied with that nonsense. The SNP seem to think so long as their party is in denial and refusing to face reality the Scottish electorate will be likewise deluded. The next election will prove them horribly wrong.
