Harvard’s Lisa Randall on Israeli and Palestinian Scientists Working Together

Lisa Randall is the Frank B. Baird, Jr., Professor of Science at Harvard University. Her research focus is connecting unsolved questions in theoretical particle physics to our understanding of the properties and interactions of matter.
In this interview, Randall discusses the goals of SESAME, the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East - an intergovernmental organization based in Allan, Jordan, and the first synchrotron light source in the Middle East out of about 60 facilities worldwide.
SESAME's member countries include Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, and Turkey, and including scientists from Palestine. Against the backdrop of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian war, Randall emphasizes the need for science as an equalizer and a uniting force. As air strikes continue to raze parts of Gaza, multinational scientists at SESAME examine clues to the fundamental nature of the universe.
