Hi, can you always keep your eyes open underwater without googles?, don’t they hurt?

I usually can but it also depends on how much chlorine or salt is in the pool. Sometimes if its too much, my eyes will burn and i wont be able to keep them open.
Theyll hurt if there's way too much chlorine or salt in the pool.
