      Try equalizing the pressure in your ears and sinuses by pinching your nose when exhaling forcibly with your nose & mouth closed. Its the method divers use (valsalva movement)
      If you feel pain while descending do not continue as you will rupture your eardrum which can take months to heal, and curtail and future diving/snorkelling activity.

  • @danielschechter8130
    @danielschechter8130 Před 2 lety +2680

    The hard part isn't holding his breath for that long. These guys can hold their breath longer than that. The hard part is equalizing your ears when the air in your lungs has compressed that far. An untrained person would die just from the compression on their lungs. Extreme freedivers have developed the physiology of their lungs to withstand pressures that would kill an ordinary person.

      @danielschechter8130 Před 2 lety +72

      @@justusjo4413
      You are correct that you cannot wear normal swim goggles for freediving because there's no way to equalize the pressure in them. Scuba divers equalize their masks by exhaling through their nose. At moderate depths freedivers can do the same thing. For deeper freedives I've always seen them use goggles, but fill them before the dive with saline solution. Because water is not compressible, water-filled goggles don't have to be equalized. But in this video William is clearly not doing this. So, the answer to your question is that I do not know! I'm guessing that these goggles are made of something so soft that they can compress right up against his eyes. But that's a guess. You made a good catch here because I had not taken note of the fact that he pulls them down over his eyes at the last minute and does not fill them with water. Perhaps it's also possible that the goggles have openings to allow the water in. Maybe something like a screen to keep anything but water out. Lots of people open their eyes under water, so that's possible, and the goggles would still protect his eyes from debris. This is a stumper!

    • @sixtiz
      @sixtiz Před 2 lety +36

      @@danielschechter8130 I did some research and apparently you were right, there are some sort of swim goggles which fit the eye like contact lenses, hence there is no need to worry about the pressure.The other part was right too, some fill their goggles with steril saline that no pressure euqalisation is needed. At least that's what I found, I could be wrong tho

      Derpy dumpling it actually has everything with the amount of oxygen you have in your lungs. A tolerance to carbon dioxide is important, however having a larger oxygen reserve is what allows free divers to stay under for so long. When freediving, all we think about is conserving oxygen, by slowing our heart rate and keeping the proper form.

      Christopher Knowles You must get to know the real God Jesus Christ. I have a small message about God for you.Do you believe in God,? In the last day Jesus would resurrect everyone who ever lived including the good and the bad, and the good would go to heaven while the bad would perish and be tormented in Hell for all eternity, there is no reincarnating into another species, that is a lie, you only have this life to get right with God. today I want to share with you the Gospel of God Jesus Christ who is the only God who came in the flesh and lived among us about 2000 years ago and he was crucified and died for our sins, all men have sinned against God and hence we live in a world full of trouble because the first people named Adam and Eve ate from the tree which God commanded them not to eat from, hence because of their disobedience, Adam and Even were cast out of Paradise. But God in his love and mercy made a way for us to get back into this paradise so that we can once again live with him for eternity in paradise where we never grow old or die and where there is no pain or suffering for all eternity. Today you can take the first step in this journey by believing in God Jesus Christ and accepting him as God(as he was not just a good teacher) and by repenting of your sins. In the last day Jesus would resurrect everyone who ever lived including the good and the bad and the good would go to heaven while the bad would perish and be tormented in Hell for all eternity, there is no reincarnating into another species, that is a lie, you only have this life to get right with God. Therefore we must repent of our sins today and realize that we are not Gods, neither are we divine, only God is divine. Jesus is God and he taught us how to live when he came to Earth , there are 2 destinations either Heaven or Eternal hell fire, those believe in Jesus Christ and who live according to Jesus Christ would go to Heaven but those wicked people who reject him and choose their own paths would be cast into the lake of fire where they shall be tormented for all eternity, this is just the reality, nonetheless it is not fear that cause me to live for God but rather it is my love for him in that he is a merciful and loving God. Focus on the things of God instead of the things of this world as the things of this world are only temporary but the things of God are eternal. If you would like to know more about this I encourage you to study the ESV and KJV Bible as there is vital knowledge that you must have in there as it explains Gods plan for Humanity and what we must do to please him. Do not delay, tomorrow is not promised.Jesus bless you

    I was stationed in the Philippines during Vietnam and our base was half way between Manilla and the fishing grounds further south. We showed outdoor movies, and these fishermen (Murami's) would visit us occasionally. These were EXTREMELY rough and often violent people. The stars on the boats were the deep divers whose job it was to keep the nets off the bottom. They were unique and had the biggest chests I'd ever seen due to increased lung capacity. They would go overboard with a large rock and surface several minutes later. I spoke with a pair of them in the local tavern during one of their visits. They told us they "often" went below 200 meters, so I'm a little suspect of who's keeping the records here. These fellows were daredevils of the first order, which is why they were paid so much more than the rest of the crews. Interesting, eh?
