- I love this video Pendulum Waves" from Harvard so I add sound synchronized with this movie.
I made the Pure Data patch that simulates pendulum motion using formula of it.
This is my first responsing movie.
Please check out the original video.

Pendulum Wavesに感動したのでPureDataでパッチを作って合わせてみました。
比較的きちんとシンクロしています。
Our brains like to hear and see patterns. But even the seemingly random sights and sounds are patterns that the brain struggles to see.

or we don’t struggle at all and actually understand the patterns linear pathway
This isn't random, there are very distinct, predictable patterns.
Bloody brilliant. I love it. Towards the end, it became quite "addictive", and was hoping to hear the end tone when they all stabilised; if they ever do.
At the end it just continues dancing
1:26 is when they all synchronize again.
@@cptkirkpyro5656 yeah just not fully
@@snailcheeseyt in the sound they do, thats just because when he released the balls he didnt do it evenly so there is slight differences
Is you’re name actually Scott Scott if so that is amazing
This sound synchronization starts from the release point, so it makes sound when balls reach to the left edge. However, sometimes off-synchronized is happening because of the frame rate of the movie.
what is the theory behind it
@@samarliya there is no theory to be had, it's directly outlined why in the comment.
I'm the only one that really liked the
sound at the start with no soundtrack,
but soon turned off the 'created' soundtrack,
couldn't stand it, if there was sound from the
pendulum apparatus I would have surely
dug it and enjoyed that sound.
There would be a way to have the pendulum
trigger sensors to generate sound,
I think that would be a truly amazing set up.
Less than 10 years later, and I think now I found the best ringtone to use for a phone.
The dude next to me: "wtf is that?"
Me: "You wouldn't get it."
Thanks for the idea🤣👌

Just in case you're unaware, or for anyone else who happens upon this comment and is unaware, that is called synesthesia, in this case specifically chromesthesia. There's quite a few different types.
Ohhh! Is there a longer version of the song? Is so relaxing I can listen it for hours!

Nice job, really catches it well. I was listening to see if the phase errors on the shorter end would show up in the sounds. Saw your comment on frame rate; frame by frame capture of passing the center would require interpolation, but would give the closest sonic match to the fastest motion. I would love that as a midi file. Put it to drums with different bpm and let that cycle. Ah, conceptual electronica, how I've missed you.
What the fuck did you say
I love the visual. Made me think about how light can be observed as particles and waves. The setup was constantly alternating between chaos and order, it actually looked like waves and particles!
In truth there was no chaotic behavior here whatsoever. A pendulum system like this is completely deterministic, predictable..
@@SineEyed yes I see what you mean, but I still hold on to this thought as it does look like it goes from one arrangement to the other, but it was more of a subjective interpretation that I wanted to share, apples and oranges I know :)
@@AardBewoner yeah, I'm aware you were simply stating an offhand observation, as opposed to declaring some objective truth about the physical system of a pendulum in motion. I get what you were saying, I do. And I didn't mean what I said as criticism or to discount your observation. If I came across that way, I apologize.
My intention was only to give an objective counterpoint of the reality of what we see happening here. Indulging in whimsy can be quite fun, and engaging one's imagination is an important function of one's cognitive development imo. I just feel that it is equally important that the facts be acknowledged right along side any fanciful or subjective notions we might have. Truth is most often just as amazing as fiction..
@@SineEyed You're absolutely right. Cheers!
@@SineEyed but modulo division and prime numbers are chaotic, and that's the emergent behavior we see.

The reason video was cut short , had you listened to the entire sequence of tones you would've entered alternate dimension.
Yep, with subtitles - it all make good sense.
Synchronized some pattern then chaos, after that, it returns synchronous. It was more interesting than what I had thought. Thank you for good movie.
Didn't know I needed to see this, but the algorithm did.
surprisingly satisfying
That was absolutely fascinating! Going to watch it again right now!
This is the most insane polyrhythm ever...
Kind of cool how they flow in predictable patterns. It is symmetrical around 0:56 for instance. Going in either direction (future or past) the patterns are in the same order for a while.
T invariance of newton's law: F = ma, since (-F) = m(-a).
You can also put it in a mirror for P invariance (again: -F = m(-a)).
The hard one is C invariance, F = (+m)a, since you need an antimatter pendulum.
When I'm in the car and sat waiting at traffic lights or whatever, I start to drum along with the ticking of my own indicator and note the timing difference between all the other cars indicating as well. Start from a car that's in perfect synch with mine, tap it out on the steering wheel and work out when it's just slightly going off and back out of synch again.
Same at home with the clocks. We have old fashioned train station style tick-tocking clocks and it's strangely soothing and addictive to listen to them all fall in, start to go off and back out of synch and come full circle and fall in again. This is what I do Friday nights. 🕰🕕⏲

This is absolutely mind blowing
Those sounds created by the pendulum waves inspires me to think of the days when Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues played the mellotron.

The sound is memorizing the visuals are cool but the best part is is that you can actually replicate the visuals, and the audio with your computer! And because you can run on your computer, you can make it as long as you want, imagine this but except of a few notes, there's like a hundred of these!
