Windows95man takes part in Finland’s Contest for New Music (UMK) 2024 with his song “No Rules!”, featuring Henri Piispanen. This track is the artist's first single and a party banger that opposes unnecessarily restrictive rules.
Finland's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest will be chosen during a live UMK final broadcast on February 10 at 9 PM at Nokia Arena, Tampere. The show will be broadcast by Yle TV1, Yle Areena, YleX, Yle Radio Suomi, and Yle X3M.

NO ONE ROBBED ANYONE. Jere's vocals on final night is why he lost.. He was out of breath, offkey, and that is all that is needed to hurt him. If he had been close to Loreen in Jury votes, you might have a foot to stand on, but you dont. As she was right behind him in the televote (he was dominant, but NOT a landslide), while he was only 6th or something in Jury. Guess what, NO ONE is promised when televoting that the Televote choice wil automatically win.. SO GET OVER IT ALREADY< goddamit.

It is not a coindicence that '95 happens to be the year when Finland won it's first ice hockey world championship. Against Sweden, in Sweden. And proceeded to steal the victory song (about winning the championship) that Sweden had in its arrogance and cockiness made before the tournament even started. 95 never forget, stick it to the arrogant brother.

As a Finn I would say it's definitely the location. Here in latitudes 60 - 70 Winters are not only cold but also dark as hell making any sane person sad (the crazy ones doesn't care anymore). We need to counteract that effect with all kind of crazy fun. The crazier, the better.
Furthermore, summers are so full of light: Even in the southernmost parts sun sets below horizon for only 3 - 4 hours near midnight and its stays close to horizon so real darkness doesn't come at all, just another dawn straight after dusk. For that sleeping is difficult and people turn even crazier.
Nah, sorry, as a Finn I have to say as a Finn that drug consumption is not very wide spread. Most people are more into sports and eating organics food and all the required supplements. My nephews and god children in their late teens are into sports and do not even want to drink anything when allowed.
So Finland is finlanding again! I knew you would love this! There is a lot of Finnish mythology in the live performance. In the Finnish epos Kalevala, the world was born out of an egg (or a type of duck). Here W95M is born out of a denim egg, obviously without his magic (small) denim shorts. They descend from the sky by some divine intervention, and then the party starts! Henri is obviously the bird with denim feathers. There is so much detail in the staging. (All the other performances were incredible too, I saw them live).
Henri was not meant to be singing live at all, as he only assisted with the demo. They could not find another singer to take over, so he agreed to go to UMK. They never expected to win! They will decide by tomorrow whether they will definitely participate, because of the controversy of a certain country being allowed to take part in ESC. They have also been subjected to really negative comments online, including on the added pressure of that political situation. They have expressed their wish that the country will be removed from ESC, as have thousands of artists across Europe. I really hope they will find the mental strength to go ahead, as this would be an amazing performance. They would probably do something a bit different, or bigger.

I had no idea and I get most people don't but what is great about this contest, that all the countries bring something out that resonates with their culture and present it to the world. That was great info and I hope they decide to participate. ESC needs more performances like this.

Funny Side knowledge about this: Henri Piispanen (the singer) is the producer of the song and apparently didn't even really want to take part in the song. However, they failed to find someone in that short time who could reach those high notes so he had to do it. And now he has to perform in front of the whole of Europe.

Something that makes this even more funny, is that this is (in part) a parody of Gunther, a Swedish eurodance artist from the 90's, and Finland chose to send this to the Eurovision contest, held in Sweden.

You spotted the nude-coloured underwear a bit too early (this was actually winner's encore, in the actual contest performance it wasn't quite so obvious from the start). They are trying to create an illusion that he is naked under the waist, and the running joke through the show is how the cameramen are frantically trying to block the view to his private parts. If you'll watch this again, pay attention, what different ways they are using to block the view, it's hilarious.
Oh that makes sense. Lol. Well, I couldn't help but see it. Either way, the thought that went into this performance, with the antics, goofiness and mythology, it was all brilliant.

It is difficult to please both the jury and the people. Käärijä won over the whole world, but the jury dropped him to second place. Loreen won the jury, but not the whole world. So how do you please the majority of everyone? hmm... There could be one rule for that: no rules.😂😉

I went to UMK (to both the live final and the rehearsal earlier in the day), and my friends and I absolutely lost it the first time we saw No Rules! He was absolutely the favourite in the arena, and although I wanted him to win, I wasn’t expecting it, so it was an amazing feeling when he did win!!!

In the Finnish national epic, Kalevala, the world is born from the egg of the goldeneye bird.
Perhaps somehow related to the Vedic (Hindu) mythological brahmaaNDa (brahmaa + aNDa), egg of Brahmaa, The Creator (I believe, as opposed to brahman, the Absolute, "who/which" can only be spoken about telling what "He" is NOT, and "whose" three most subtle aspects are Brahmaa, Vishnu and Shiva).

@@DaneBramageROCKS Well said my friend. I believe that they think that they do get to decide in the jury. However, I don't think that their opinion really matters much outside of the competition. Just look at Käärijä's career after the last year's competition compared to the winner. It's just clear who has really triumphed in the real market.

Before the live UMK performances another person, Sara Siipola was the favorite of the people. But her stage show was a little underwhelming and Windows95 man's performance obviously blew the others out of the water. Many people changed their vote based on the performance and that pushed W95 to win. He was also Käärijä's opener last year. I love this performance and it's just full of so much positivity and energy.
Yeah performances like this are what wins this contest. I hope they choose to continue on and show us all that their best is yet to come.
Sara's performance was great it's own and simple way. It doesn't always need chaos on the state to be a good/great performance. I liked Käärijäs last year but it feels like reherseal, this doesn't give me that wipe. Just chaos. They've lot to do imo for vocals and performance to convince me to like this. I usually like this kind of songs so that's not a problem and I see why we Finns voted this to esc, really. Maybe this grows on me like Erika Vikmans Cicciolina - i didn't like it back then but now i like.

Sara's song was average good, but technically not better than Windows95man and ballads needs always some wow factor or / and a voice. Windows95man is better and for our fortune, it's something funny that puts a smile on your face or makes you laugh. The world needs humour and that we don't take things or ourselves too seriously.

I grew up with the same small area than Windows 95 man and he is my friend.
If you want to know why he is so talented, they had a group of friends with this amazing sense of humour, all of the group members were either natural comedians or simply trained their skills so much that whenever you had a chance to watch this party to play around, you couldn't stand without laughing.
They made the whole upper secondary school so fun place to stay at.
I remember once walking on the school hall way and I saw these guys having the competition of Summer Olympic sports of who jumps the heighest jump (it was just normal brake of 15 minutes). Whenever they failed the jump, the seriousness of the failure they had on their face and their maneuvers were just something that made you smile so much (since comedy was mixed with autheticity and authentic feelings of "small child" of not being able to make it)
While they were holding their competition, other students where trying to study for the next exams and once in a while teachers had to ban or punish this party for their illegal competitions or what's so ever.
I admired their sense of humour and always wanted to participate on it while I was still too distant with this group.
I always told one of the guys that you should try to sell this humour but he wans't after money and never did it. You should invite this other guy on the broadcast, he is a pure diamond.
Windows 95 man itself is a very warm hearted man. He really has great values.
I'm surprised to see him now here but for sure partly definitely proud of him and for the party I watched years during my childhood. Actually the concept of Windows 95 man traces back to these days but probably that is something I should not discuss for pure respect for the artist himself.

I have been hearing that a lot. They weren't the favorite, but stole the show. That's good, that is what will get them high in the ESC.
You absolutely nailed it with "if you arent performing on stage, you arent going to win" and thats exactly why they won UMK24 because all other contestants felt boring or disappointing with their stage performances. But Windows95man managed to actually make performance that was more entertaining than their music video so they fully deserved to win and hopefully they agree to go to Eurovision cause this is what we all need from Eurovision, especially in world we are living in right now

@@DaneBramageROCKS Some of the negative comments have been about them being 'middle-aged men' 🤷, and obviously some feel uncomfortable seeing (glimpses of) a normal-looking man (not a model) in underwear and generally about the idea of nudity, albeit only suggested in the performance in the most hilarious way. There are also a lot of people in the world who just don't feel well within themselves or about something in their lives, so anything they cannot control (music, sports, politics) becomes a target for projecting their own bad feelings. Käärijä got his fair share, and in the video of his new song with Erika Vikman called Ruoska (The Whip), this issue is talked about. I'm looking forward to the reaction (both live and video - the format works well)!

Great that you enjoyed it. 😃 Even though they're called Windows95man they're effectively a duo. The pantsless guy is Teemu, and the guy doing most of the singing is Henri. It is currently unclear if they will be representing Finland, sadly. 😞 Let's just say there is drama. 😐 I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that they will go to Malmö. 🤞🤞 Teemu is a DJ, and Henri is a singer and voice actor. Henri voices some character in Paw Patrol (a kids' show so I don't watch it).

If they go to Malmö, I think they will probably change something. Windows95man is the guy in windows t shirt, he is a dj. Henri is a singer, in a band Pasa, also plays variuos instruments. Henri is a vocal actor. He was only supposed to do the demo, not sing live at all. Hope they will go despite the hate they have got from coming first. When I saw this my votes did go to these guys, there was no question about it.
Yeah during my wrap up and found some great info and learned a bit more. I hope they agree to go, ESC needs performances like this.

Some people here in Finland are complaining that we should've chosen more elegant and beautiful song but I don't think so. I mean when have we ever succeeded with actually good music? That's right, never. Or at least not in many many years. Funny song and performance is the way to go. At least the audience will be entertained.
I think Finland has some amazing bands (NightWish, BattleBeast, Amorphis) that make amazing music, but, having these lesser known artists make it to this contest is amazing and it is the performance that makes them stand out.
@outikoo9244 Well, there's a first time for everything! I'm honestly getting tired of others thinking Finns are low IQ people who can only joke on stage, when we could be so much more... Performance is always great, one needs it for sure, but then most look down on this as a joke act and prefer a "quality song".
Years ago, audience wote Nightwish for ESC, our jury decited at thats is too dark and heavy music. But then also jury make compromis, and the send there singer who came 3rd. And that was awful, singer forget own song lyrics...

As a Finnish person, I personally love the song. Many Finnish people I know don't really like it, or liked another UMK song more. But I really love it, and the stage performance, gives off the image that us Finnish people aren't those stereotypically dark and/or angry-ish people (which most of us are not), it gives off an Image that we're sometimes silly, and like to have fun with it. Everything doesn't have to be serious all the time, right? I hope that Windows95man and Henri do well in the competition, like Käärijä did!

I remember some peoples last year criticism about Käärijä also, but I said then that it's a miracle if he doesn't win or he has to be in top 3, Cha cha cha was a perfect Eurovision song. But what's most important, audience loved it and they love Windows95man also. That's all that matters 💖 we finns may seem serious and a bit quiet in some cultures but we like to have fun and joke a lot, we don't take things or ourselves too seriously🎊

He gets it 😂 everybody doesn't. Its not just random things happening or not purely a joke entry as you noticed probably.
I think it missed the big eurodance hype movement that was happening with Netherlands' song followed with the Austrian song that has also eurodance vibe. Because this was released earlier as the ESC entrant, about 3-4 weeks ago and was left there in the ESC channel not popping up on the newer songs that got their hype. I feel like if this was released now it would not be so underestimated and a little forgotten in terms of this years eurodance movement. However its still near the top 5 of streamings and views of about 30 contestants that are out already and it has a solid support. It might surprise as an underdog. Surely it will need the support of televotes

I heard all the UMK (uuden musiikin kilpailu, contest for new music) which settled who would represent Finland this year and this was one of the last, worst ones I thought after hearing all the contestants.
