I asked my cardiologist if it should supplement with CoQ10 when I started taking statins. He said i should not, because it would interfere with the anti coagulant I take (81 mg aspirin). CoQ10 increases coagulation.

This is an important point I was unaware of. If you are working with a cardiologist, I assume you have some identified heart disease. In that case it is prudent to listen to him or her. This applies to Warfarin as well as aspirin and I would think other blood thinners as well..

@@mystatinfreelife yes. I had a valve replaced. But was on statins a for few years prior.

Thank you for the information Ross. It was helpful. I’m 55 and on a statin which I don’t want to take but is helping me with some alter sclerosis. I appreciate the time put in for this.

I did not tolerate the statin well. My cardiologist discontinued it ("For now," he said. "Forever," I thought!) and gave me double dosing of coQ10. I am still not recovered from side effects of the statin. Thank you for the information, I will continue with the coQ10.

It's a rare cardiologist who will at least go that far! Good luck.

A very nice presemtation. Good information. It would be interesting to know if the PSK9 inhibitors like Rapatha and Praluent reduce CoQ 10 similar to statins. It seems they are becoming a go to alternate for physicians when their patients can't do statins or are diagnosed with hypercholesterolemia. I have a brother who just came off of statins after 20 years and really should have been supplementing with CoQ 10. His cardiologist never even mentioned it. 20 years of statins did a job on him.

Good question on the PSK9 inhibitors; I've never thought of it. I'll have to explore that. Thanks for watching!

Hi, thank you for the video. How about bempedoic acid instead of red yeast rice? My cardiologist suggested to take this rather new drug for one month and have my blood checked afterwards to see if the LDL figure went down. It's still around 100/110 now and he's saying it should get under 60.

I have not heard of Bempedoic acid before. I will take a look at it.

      Day*

I use the ubiquinol form, and 100 mg/day seems sufficient for me. It is usually well-tolerated (but then again, that's said of statins by some). I've gone as high as 400 mg/day with no issues when I was on statins. I'd suggest starting with the manufacturer's recommended dose.
