- Today we drive one my favorite roads. We start in Durango CO the home of the Durango Silverton narrow gauge RR and drive north into the San Juan Mountains. We stop in Silverton to roll down main street taking time to view the steam engine. We then continue north to Ouray CO along the narrow shelf road of US550.

Aspens are my favorite tree!! Yes yes.. you have to experience the change of colors... it's breathe taken!! ❤
I really enjoyed this iam 80 a d qent across Ed the million dollar hiway when I was 16 iam from Greely Colorado but live in Texas ow but sure miss my beautiful home thank you so much for this video, I watch the whole thing ❤
This is actually what I’m looking for, a long driving video with out cuts just driving along , watching this on an 85 “ big screen looks awesome, I watch this before going to bed , it’s relaxing instead of news or same old tv shows, you need to go to crater lake in Oregon and hike down into the crater and take the boat across to wizard island
You just keep that burning desire in me to go WEST from where I am in Indiana! Thx for the beautiful scenery and info. I have always wanted to ride the Silverton train.
In the old days, the cattle was drivin down from Purgatory through Main Street to lower elevations for the winter. The cowboys still drive the cattle down but not through town anymore. Thanks for the vid Stan!
Thank you for such an amazing trip! Can't wait to see more! AWESOME!
Hi Sasnak another great video beautifully done and narrated thanx for the tour
TY for this beautiful drive. I can’t travel anymore so traveling with you is like being there. I’ll stay with you watching all videos like this. Keep up the good work, by the way I was born in Idaho spent all my summers in Missoula MT so mountains are in my blood!
Doing Super Duper! Love the intro.
Great video! Very informative. From what I understand from friends who go up to Ouray often, is that there are no guardrails on most parts of the Million Dollar highway so that it is easier to clear snowslides off of the road by shoving it over the cliff.
BEAUTIFUL THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Stan, you outdid yourself with this video and I am not even to the end. I keep picking it ack up when I have time to concentrate. And of course, I am watching on a big screen. You keep giving me bucket list places to go but after I retire (next year) and sell the house, I hope to travel north on 550 with a stop in Silverton and then maybe circle around on 141 south where I think you took us a few weeks ago. It all looks absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for the inspiration!
Hi Stan thankyou for another great video can't wait till next Sunday
You did a Very good job of this video! Really enjoyed it! So glad you weren't driving while reading the railroad history! Lol. Keep up the good work!
That has always been a beautiful drive!! ❤❤
Hi Stan, thank you for sharing. God Bless 🙏
Great video your narration was real good I learned a lot drove through there a long time ago we were going the other way and that road is scary straight down but it is so pretty the blue sky and all those trees we loved seeing the trains too good job till next Sunday 🌿🌲🚂
Did that run back when I had my CDL.What a beautiful drive. Want to do it in a sports car.
Nice tour. So beautiful. Hope to get that way soon. Thanks for sharing
Oh...EXCELLENT video
We want to drive this!
Watched the Whole video. Thanks Stan.
1:12:28 arborists, study trees? not sure. Thank you, Sasnak, for another fabulous virtual trip! Stunning views 😍 1:17:14 this view w/the 360 cam -whooahh & pretty wild, occasionally gives the impression the cars are headed straight for you 🫣
He got kicked out of kitchen every one else there is cooking instead. He's playing with the grandkids.
I finally got to the end and like you said, just watch it in parts. It is well worth evey minute of full concentration. My goal is to retrace your journey in the next 12-18 months. Coming from MD, it will take planning. Thank you and I will be sharing this with like-minded folk.
Awesome, thank you!
Great video! Thx Sasnak!!

Loved it.
Thanks for the video tour. New sub 👍
Thanks again Stan. Another beautiful Sunday ride along. I just love the mountains of Colorado and that road. It was great to see it again.
I lived in the Montrose Nukla area many years ago.
I had a couple of drinks with Kim Darby and Glenn Campbell while waiting for "THE DUKE " John Wayne to come down from his room. (but he never arrived) 😞 They were filming "True Grit" in the Montrose area.
Can't wait to see where you are taking me next 😌.
Ima gotta watch this again 🥰‼️luv that 360, what a perspective 👏 YT waited till after the hour 15 min mark to ad the ads 😫then put a bunch..........
You're the best!
Magnificent 👍❤🎊
It looks alot different from when I was a child growing up in Colorado.
Gave him a banner says it's his birthday 🎈 so funny.
Rode that before. Very cool
I’ve driven this route a dozen times year round , it’s always exciting. Especially during pucker-up winter weather. The Ouray Winter time ice climbers would be a spectacular video.
Wow - such terrific scenery ! Gliders- fear of heights? If next year you take the train - ask for Dan B. ( I taught at the same school he did in Tucson). He did this in the summers- don’t know if he still doing it or not ( engineering the train. I’m going to shared to FB & others! Thanks for showing the views/ commentaries!❣️
I thought that you would be in your big bus, but your rig looked like a class B to me? Have fun in whatever rig you are in.
I did that drive with my family as a kid probably in the mid-70s absolutely amazing. Yes there was a tool that they put in between the tracks to keep the spacing exactly the same and that was yes based on chariots. But key here is the word gauge. They did not use a measuring tape on either type that used tool or a spacer called a gauge and the Narrow Gauge tracks wer a Narrow Gauge. Meaning a smaller gauge. No doubt something similar was used in the mines for the Minecarts
Love it 😊
I'm glad!
We drove that beautiful highway. When the speed posted signs kept dropping 5 mph to 15, Geri said, "If it drops another 5 mph I'm getting out and walking. The Durango to Silverton was a real thriller.
If you turn left into Purgatory, taking the road to the right right is a jeep trail all the way to the top of the mountain... est 11,000'. Views are awesome! Take a can of Boost Air with you.
Lovin the longer videos Stan. on the railroad gauge question, standerd gauge is 4'8" between the rails, narrow is 3' , Logging and mine companies used narrow gauge to save time and $$ on building track, they could make tighter curves ans slightly steeper grades. the cars were shorter because of that but still the same width, standard gauge/mainlines try to keep grades 1-1 1/2% narrow was usually 2 and sometime 3% with swicthbacks to get up the mountain. just some fun thing to know. Have a great day
great video reminds me of driving the Sierras and Rockies looking for flyfishing spots
Tape a 4 inch square of reflection tape on the windshield with a hole in the center for gopro lens to see through. Drive safe
I enjoyed this video! I’ve watched several videos about the Million Dollar Highway and Red Mountain Pass! One guy is a trucker and he’s made several! His channel is Riding Shotgun! His focus it taking his semi on snow packed roads! Try to watch some of his! 😀🇺🇸🚙
Hello Stan
Good format
Set gopro view to close up. This setting is good for a larger background, not close up.
Noted!
G's are heading to Kansas and Philadelphia two loads now.
Enjoyed it!! Thank you Maybe you could get some footage with a side by side.
Fun for you !
Check out the video coming on Thursday

G's got a birthday coming 25th again. Grubing at a bar and grill after a 🚛 truck show selling seasonings the G spot his sister still visiting and Mrs G her brother is there.
Is it open now (August) I heard it was closed earlier?
GOOD MONDAY MORNING…AMERICA
Unfortunately, the glider park was sold several years ago & turned into “open space”. 😔
G's not in the driver's seat today Mrs. G is driving him it's his birthday the big 50 so he's not liking not being in control. He's riding along instead today. Everyone else is in charge.
The trees are spruce, there is also blue spruce.
Got it Thanks
@@Sasnak your welcome
MAN YOU GO OVER THE SIDE OF ROAD YOUR 10 TOES UP THERE ARE ZERO GUARD RAILS !!! WOW !!!!!!
What type of camera are you using?
Is your van a manual shift? How many cylinders?? Thx
6 cylinder 10 speed auto
I know for sure you are not coughing
Good or bad to mine? Depends if the product was used to support HUMAN DIGNITY or destroy human dignity..
I’m for it under the right President!!! :) nice to have roads.
Who is doing all the coughing .
Thats me on the audio track when I was filming. I overdub the talking track. The coughing is caused by a side effect of my blood pressure meds
It sounds to me like them tree lined highways capture your fancy. Well let me tell you Mr. Texas, you aint seen nuthin till you've run up through the north-western corner of California. Now I'm not sayin I want you comin over here takin video and showin everybody what we got over here on the left coast cause we don't need a whole bunch of you Texans over here euuin and awwin bout our scenery, ok? But them redwoods up there are amazing.
