  • The Mahindra Max 26 xlt tractor outfitted with edge tamers and a 5 ft box blade get put to the test in several inches of fresh snow. Overall the tractor does a great job at clearing the snow but a little added weight and some chains would be helpful!

I got a set of Edge Tamers for my backhoe. Seem to work good. The only problem I had was the traction with the front tires like you.

I think the loader really is to blame, otherwise it works well!

Good idea with the box blade serving as a snow pusher. I wonder if you could fab up some sort of wings on it?

@@k6outdoors Good to hear. I had my mind made up I was going to buy one. Went to dealership climbed on the tractor I liked broke a 3 by 4 inch plastic chunk out of the fender with my foot. The salesman bent the key trying to start it, didn't start he told me they put extra fuel pumps on everyone as soon as they sell it and that's why it wouldn't start. Needless to say I told him I'd think about it.

Is the box blade in float when you are pushing snow in reverse ?

    • @k6outdoors

It is not, i have it tilted so it doesn't dig in. Thanks for stopping by

It would be nice but we usually don't get enough snow to justify one. Maybe one day someone will want me to try one out!

Them skidsteer style tires aren't the best in the snow anyway

The industrial tires are definitely better than turf tires, but are not as aggressive as an AG tire. That being said, i don't feel the need to tear up the yard with AG tires. Happy holidays and thanks for stopping in!

Ive used both my tractors for pushing snow for around 13 years using R4 tires. They are fine in the snow. I use a 750lb ballast box on the back and have no issues. Ive found that float does more harm than good because all the loaders weigh is off the front of the tractor and laying on the ground now causing a light front axle. Loader is around an extra 750-1000 lbs of weigh the tractor now has to push on top of snow weight with the light axle. Instead, I drop the loader to the ground and give the stick a tap down to raise the bucket about half an inch off the ground. This keeps the weigh of the loader on the front axle and zero steering issues. I dont care if an inch of snow is on the driveway.
