HOW TO Modify/Rig a SMALL BOAT for OFFSHORE FISHING

  • In today's video I go over the setup and modifications done to a Seaswirl Striper 1730 for offshore fishing in Hawaii. Small boats are limited on space, but some benefits are that they're much easier to maintain and launch solo, or with just one friend. I also burn much less gas on average than a much larger boat. Please let me know any questions you might have on any of the modifications I go over in the video, and I'd be happy to share more information! More fishing footage dropping soon...

      Right on!! 🤙🏼 I loved this boat a lot, and for the amount of time I put into it and on it in the water, I’d say it was an awesome all around boat. Never really felt limited until we started catching more weight than I could fit in my cooler/fishbox. But in terms of the ride, functionality and offshore capability.. it was perfect! Good luck with your build

      I just started the process to move the center helm flush to the front storage area to create room for a fish box. With the price of boats this is the only option to step up the fishing game.

      Great ideas! We owned a 17ft striper too! Awesome boat.. we wrapped the gunnels with stainless and the rod holders were in the gunnel itself. Where your bait board is we had a center pole there. It was reinforced with a stainless plate top and The underside. Ran 5 poles with outriggers plus 2 aku lines. Under the leaning post there was 2 extra 12 gal tanks… pass MM buoy maybe another 15 miles no problem!

    I had to throw you a SUB and a like for this. I have the exact same boat! 1995 Seaswirl Striper 1730cc. I fish the upper Sea of Cortez, Puerto Penasco, Mexico. I bought mine two years ago and fully reconditioned it for offshore fishing as well. I like your idea of the Gunwale side storage. Last summer I upgraded the T Top to a Fishmaster Pro. I wish I could afford a 4 stroke but for right now the Evinrude 90 does the job. The only other difference is that I have both of my batteries in the bilge in the original location. I have a really nice sound system with a 10" sub flush mounted to the starboard side of the CC and I wanted to keep the CC clean and clear for amplifiers and storage. The only downside of this boat is the bait tank system. They put the pickup in a low pressure area of the transom instead of a high speed pickup from the bottom of the hull/bilge. You can't run the pump under motor which is a deal breaker when you catch bait near shore and then run 10 or 15 miles offshore to fish. Anyways, nice to see this boat in some serious sea conditions. From what I can tell Seaswirl was a better than average made boat.

    • @SmallKineFishing
      @SmallKineFishing  Před rokem +1

      Right on bro! It's funny, I just realized looking at your page, I saw one of your videos a while back when I first got my boat, just trying to find more info and see other people's setup for the Striper 1730. There's a few others on island i've seen that have this boat as well, but I've tried to upgrade it as much as I can to suit my style of fishing. Your setup looks solid too! I moved the batteries to the center console and had a friend rewire everything because I wasn't too comfortable with the electronics being constantly exposed to salt water. The 90 johnson 2 stroke that was originally on this boat was great, but for the amount of trolling that I do, it sure was thirsty.. Also in regards to the bait tank system, I might post a video later on showing my setup, but I tapped into the water pickup on the transom and added a hose that leads to an external live bait well. I added an "EZ PUMP", which I recommend, and it allows me to still have constant flow of water, even going 10+ knots. Seaswirls definitely can handle rougher Hawaii waters!

    • @MexicoPescadoro
      @MexicoPescadoro Před rokem

      @@SmallKineFishing Ha! That's funny. I need to do a little update video for some things that I've done since the first summer. Boat looks incredible now with new T Top. I just need to start catching more fish lol. A lot different fishing down there in Mexico. It's more point A to B, turn motor off and drift fish some structure spots. Almost all bottom fishing for Grouper. Not a whole lot of trolling opportunity although there are a few for Yellow Tail and Sierra Mackerel. I've read a decent amount of info on burn rate of the old 2 Smokes and trolling is the least efficient part of the RPM range. Just over half to 3/4 throttle between 22-26mph is the sweet spot for approximately 3mpg given sea state and if you can even go that fast but yea trolling is a gas hog to say the least. Plus the smoke and noise. I'm definitely jealous of your 4 stroke for sure. There's one other dude on CZcams that has our exact boat as well. Bryan Tim. I believe he's out of San Diego and catches some massive Blue Fin Tuna. Anyway brother, keep up the videos. I'll be tuning in and absolutely frothing.

    @ff1kazu Před rokem

    First of all nice boat! I enjoyed the walk through video and all the others you've posted. Can I ask how much have you spent modifying it to the way you wanted it? Minus the motor which obviously would be the bulk of your expenses. I just picked up an 18' Robalo and eventually will be modifying things to my liking. I plan to use the boat much like how you do with trips to the sand bar, inshore fishing but primarily off shore trolling. I'm a new boat owner and I'm learning as I go as well as spending money like it's going out of style. Keep the vids coming!

    • @SmallKineFishing
      @SmallKineFishing  Před rokem +1

      Thanks! It'd be a bit hard to provide an estimate.. I'd say somewhere in the 4-6K range based on what I showed in the video, but I can give you more accurate estimates if you specify which number from the list above that you'd like to know about. I got super lucky with the boat hull/trailer itself, and scored a really good deal, which is why I had money to spend on the modifications. Robalos are solid boats! Price ranges depending on size, materials, and type of frame used (aluminum vs stainless steel), but most guys do stainless steel frames as they’re much sturdier and will not snap.
