    Consider that Ritchie Kotzen ACTUALLY USES this as his rig in front of his stage amp, and recorded the two Winery Dogs albums with it.

    This pedal kicks ass, i just got mine used today, wow. Im gonna try it in my VOX AC15 later when everybody leaves, i wanna crank it. Just tried it in my MonoPrice 15 watt tube amp and it shreds.

    Great tutorial...........I picked one of these up as an alternative to my mondo pedal board which has a very large footprint............ This little item does about 85% of what the big one does and is so micro it's really a no brainer to just take it instead for those small stages or when you need to set up a smaller guitar system in 10 minutes...I use mine with a Tech 21 Power Engine PE 60 and I got a lot of compliments on a recent gig. I played with a guy who had about $5,000 worth of pedals including a Marshall Half Stack and the sound man said he much preferred the sound I was getting over the much larger system of the other guitarist.

    Finally, a great demo on this! I have one as well and have will definitely tweak it the way you have it. I had too much gain on the SansAmp section, as well as the OMG section. I play it through a Bose L1 system. Thanks!

    I didn't expect that kind of sound out of that pedal. It doesn't sound Richie at all! But it demonstrate the flexibility of this pedal. The way you're using it and the way Richie is using it are two different world.

  • @tomrp9815
    @tomrp9815 Před 8 lety +1

    Great product. Sounds awesome with the clean channel on any quality all tube amp. If you are going to use a dirty channel you should avoid a super high gain metal amp. A good vintage Marshall, matchless, or boutique like a Fuchs ODS. Using a Evh, Mesa Rectifier, Engl etc on high gain is overkill as the pedal already provides lots of gain and great liquid thick sustain. With a high gain compressed tight metal gain, you will just get mud

  • @samhainlimon
    @samhainlimon Před 7 lety

    I purchased the RK5 and the Valeton Dark Dapper thinking I'd run through the clean channel of my JCM 900 100W 1x12. I would use the RK5 for Rock and other mellower stuff and the dark dapper for metal. To my surprise the RK5 can get just as much gain as dapper and is brighter to my ears. If you run a boost after the RK5 but before the return on your effects loop you can boost anything individually on the RK5. I use a Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive on clean boost for that. Rk5 hands down!! I'm amazed!

    Kind of interested in why Kotzen chose to get such a mid heavy distortion in his pedal, since he already has a rather mid-ish setup (Marshal amps, Chopper T pickup in his teles etc). I personally think it sounds great (and I've seen live clips of him using it live with great results), but I'm curious about it.
    Thanks for a great demo!

Regarding its tap tempo feature, how do you revert to your basic delay set-up after you've engaged the tap tempo effect? Also, how do you get a dotted eighth effect with this pedal? Sorry, am kyna new at this. Thanks, nevertheless.

    I used this rig professionally and it does the job. I don't use the gain section however- I used a Plexitone for gain in front of this but that's it. I play Deep Purple type classic rock and similar music and plug right into the PA. I don't use with an amp.

    The last pedal I bought was the Blonde and that was years ago. Everything I do is direct, no amp for worship teams. I can squeeze some very usable tones out of it, but this??? This may be the only true challenger to their "no amp" policy.

    Anyone having issues with the DLA clipping when the Sans and OMG levels are slightly above 12'oclock? My interface gain is turned down all the way and I'm still hearing the DLA signal clip. Sounds great and the signal is usable if the Sans and OMG levels are 12 o'clock or less, just trying to figure out if the delay component is broken. Thanks.
    just a side note: sounds fine when plugged in front of an amp...the delay signal doesn't clip even with the sans and omg levels past 3 o'clock.

      I'm replying to a 3 year old comment here. But, These Flyrigs are quite loud, really loud. So, I have the Paul Landers PL1 Flyrig and when recording direct I've found that setting your interface input volume at 12 o'clock and then adjusting your Flyrig volume so the DAW's track volume meters go to about 75% works the best. Hopefully it helps and it makes sense

  • @sixstringlove8242
    @sixstringlove8242 Před 9 lety

    So this is a multi effects board that just goes into the front of an amp? Or can I plug this straight into a cabinet? When I hear the term sans amp, I think of the literal translation "no amp". Or is it both? I know it sounds like a stupid question, and when I leave here I am going to Google it, so I will probably have my answers before you even read this. If you still read comments. I know that once you get many subscribers, the chore of reading each sniveling, simpering question gets old. And as an ending, that PRS is dope. Beautiful instrument.

      @flips220 Před 8 lety +1

      +jonathan roman They're basically the exact same thing, except for the overdrive attached to it. The regular fly rig has the Plexi overdrive, which is a vintage/classic British type of overdrive (think Marshall). This one has the OMG overdrive attached, which is more of a Class A overdrive (think Vox). Other than that, they're the same SansAmp + reverb and delay.

    • @rikshredder
      @rikshredder Před 9 lety

      Brett Kingman, No. I wanted to hear how it sounded if you ran the RK5 through a mixer board, like you would find in any club, to hear what it would sound like through typical full range speakers that are found in clubs. In the vid, you're running direct but through pro tools. Thanks Brett! And, how does it compare to the regular Fly Rig?

    • @BrettKingman
      @BrettKingman  Před 9 lety +1

      Rik D Pro Tools doesn't alter the sound - I haven't used any plug-ins apart from a Limiter at the output. So what you're hearing here is as close as you'll get in any video, I think. The overdrives are the primary difference between the FR5 and RK5. The OMG is more to my taste. Cheers, B.

    Hey Brett, so I've used my RK5 for a few gigs. It's missing some "balls", when going Direct. I feel it needs to be pushed through a "tube" preamp for warmth, like an AMT SS-20 or something. Any ideas? Thanks!

    • @PaulEvansRahal
      @PaulEvansRahal Před 9 lety +3

      Derek Thrasher I'd rather consider that you try Cabinet "Impulse Responses (IR). For direct (to a PA for instance) or a recording interface and using a DAW, get Two Notes Wall of Sound (It's a VST, free for 30 days, then you have to get some cabs to activate ful version). www.two-notes.com/en/software/torpedo-wall-of-sound-3/
      Now, if you aren't "That digital", you can purchase a pedal where you can load the impulses on a SD card: here www.logidy.com/?pid=1
      For great Cabinet Impulses, I recommend www.Ownhammer.com. You can even get a free 1960's 4x12 Marshall Cab, loaded with Celestions V30's.
      Don't get it wrong, these are not "emulations" such as in Amplitube o Similar ones (Even Bias From Positive Grid which people say is quite good), these are recorded from actual / original cab/speaker/mics as described (file extension is .WAV )
      Trust me.. there you'll get your "balls " with a, for instance, 4x12 Diezel Cab, Or a Bogner Shiva, or a Cali (Mesa Boogie) etc... Difference is amazing. And quite noticeable between cabs/speakers too. You can hear the diff between a Celestion Alnico Silver vs a Greenback for instance.
      I've got a Suhr reactive load, which is a reactive load where it matches the impedance of a real cabinet. I plug my tube amp there and to the loadbox (suhr), then to the audio interface and DAW, without the cab it sounds horrible and shrill, distorted and such.
      So, this is not a Tube Amp, but Tech21 & Sansamp were the first and best on introducing "amp sim" in pedals. Henc,e difference might exist, of course, but you'll get a better sound, for a cab/speaker that can cost you starting from 5 bucks (plsu the free one you get which is a full one, not a "shrinked demo version)
      Check Pete Thorn on this. :)

    There is one big show stopper for me and that is the lack of running it in stereo, which I want to do with delay and reverb. Especially in a direct to DAW config this is a big drawback. Other than that it's good product.

    the peddles are way to small when ur a singer /guitar player ! kotzen must have feet like a doll ! gauranteed to hit two at a time 80 percent of the time . and im a size 8 so normal enough ' .. sansamp must be on for the heavy section to sound good ' thats tru a boogie mark 3 . sounds are pretty awsome to be fair ! ohh and a built in tuner would make a great pedal an ever better pedal . also hidden chorus is really vibey and has a sound of its own .
