Greetings from Belgium.
I just have a few seed that popped out recently
Just took my allotment on last November. Saved my pumpkin seeds from ones I bought . They are growing in pots !! I'm excited to get them in the ground . Thanks for this video .very helpful and I know the weather is the same here in County Durham as yours as your north east as well!! Lol
Hi, so exciting getting a new allotment 😁
Good luck with it all. Pumpkins are one of my favourite things to grow
Thumbs up from me! Will give em a go next year.
Cheers. Always fun to grow
Really enjoyed watching, my first year growing pumpinks. Didn't have a clue about the make and female stuff. Learning every day.
geordie lad, nice to hear someone local. No American accent with you.
Haha yeah, no American accent. Glad you enjoyed it
Iv not ever grown anything before, starting with pumpkins, got a out 150 seeds all ready. Thank you for video !!
Well, you should get 1 or 2 pumpkins then! Good luck 👍
👏👏👏
thanks! we recently had an assignment to see which persons seed would grow the fastest using different techniques - hopefully this works :)
Lots of warmth for quick growth!
Worm castings top dress would also beneficially help any pumpkins out!
Caleb Hoffman halloween 🦇 sounds
Champion tips on pumpkins, thank you. I will follow your advice when I plant mine out in a few weeks time up here in Northern Scotland. I'll let you know how it goes. Paul (Geordie away from home)
Cheers Paul best or luck mate 👍
@@TheGreyGardener1990 Thank you :)
Yes I’m growing fifty pumpkins this October So the feeding thing Liquid Seaweed and potassium is really handy thanks we are going to use them this year 😊❤
No problem. Best of luck 🙂
Repent and trust in Jesus. He's the only way. We deserve Hell because we've sinned. Lied, lusted stolen, etc. But God sent his son to die on the cross and rise out of the grave. We can receive forgiveness from Jesus. Repent and put your trust in him.
John 3:16
Romans 3:23❤😊❤
what does Christianity have to with growing pumpkins?
Thank you for the info. Im a 1st year pumpkin grower, and im nervous lol
I'm sure you'll be fine! 🙂
Hi what seeds did you use for this patch ? Next year i would love to use Magic Lantern seeds.
it will be fun to grow some pumpkin with shapes such as frankenstein shapes ,skull shapes , vampire shapes even the trump shapes , you will be amazed ...
North east accent is 👌🏻
Is there nothing other than potatoes that i can just throw in the ground and grow. Why dont we eat plants that just grow! 😂
Great idea with the plastic pipe for water but quick question mate where did you get the spray bottle you used in the beginning of the video from
No idea mate! But I'm sure amazon, or somewhere like home bargains etc all do those kinds of spray bottles
Do you guys not get the vine borers and squash bugs that ruin everything?
Great video thanks! We was a little late sowing our pumpkins. We did it about 12 or 14 days ago. Do you think they will be ready for harvest before Halloween? They have not long started to germinate. Cheers
Yeah I think you'll be OK. Hopefully we get some nice warm weather 🤞
I’m definitely wanting to grow pumpkins so that was really useful. Are you north east based ….thought you have a local, to me, accent 👍
North East yeah
What is the name of the variety of pumpkin you harvested?
Q - how do you store the seeds between 31 Oct and 15 Apr?
What size pots did you put the 2 seeds in initially? Thanks!
Hi, not entirely sure of the size but as long as its not tiny then you will be ok. I've put them in bigger pots than this in the past too and it's fine. Depending on where you are in the country, a bigger pot could be beneficial if you have to keep it in the Greenhouse for longer due to cold temperatures. Nothing worse than when your plant starts to outgrow the pot!
how often to water pumpkins
I've got it right on sowing the seed on it'd side, tried two different brands over the last 2 months and nothing. Trying nit too give up
Great vid, will give the water pipe a try next time! I'm growing some little white and orange pumpkins that I tried to plant as exploration (first time planting pumpkins), but with this heat, the soil is getting drier every day and the plants are getting that heat from the soil as well. Do you have any recommendation of what could be used to keep the soil moist and help to fight the heat?
Lots of mulch. Straw/compost/manure
@@TheGreyGardener1990 Thanks, will try it.
Ok I’ll use lots of horse Manure this year handy thanks the gray gardener
Question our pumpkins have been goin 2 months tons of flower ( may fell off already ) there are no females? No builds behind any flowers. Steril pumpkins lol. They were seed from last year's pumpkins from the store we let rot and stay out through winter.
Haw can I get this pumkin seed.
It is alresdy may 22nd for me. Do you think ill have a pumpkin by this halloween if i start now?
Yeah I think so but it might be green not orange. Just try it.
I really want to do it, can i plant them in pods on the windows indoors before they go outside?
Yeah 👍
This is amazing. I'm gonna grow mine in a planter, currently seeds are taking form in a pot. How far away do you put each plant from one another on your allotment? I'm thinking of growing two at least.
Depends on the size of the bed they're going in...I'd give them a metre if possible. But I know people have gone closer and had decent results. Just not on top of each other basically haha
@@TheGreyGardener1990 Thanks. More than enough space for my two plants. Thanks for this
@@Vanilla_Bushwhacking no worries 👍
Hi, I'm just starting out to grow anything and wanted to try growing pumpkins for this Halloween. Is it too late for this year? Also, do you soak your seeds before you sow them? Thanks 🎃
Hi Vicki, I'd say it was too late yeah. You could try some local garden centres who may be selling an established plant and give that a go. I didn't soak them though no 👍
Ah I thought so, thank you so much for replying. I'll definitely be prepared for next year anyway 😊
@@vickimccavish2897 no worries
Cheers for a really good video , simple but very informative.. I'll definitely be having a go next year..
Arrr man I got some seeds to plant now would they still work and what was the soil that stops them from frying also where do I get some liquid seaweed and the fruiting food , awesome vid 💙
Try them now yeah. You'll probably get some smaller pumpkins still. Any garden centre will do the liquid seaweed and all the foods/fertiliser. What was the soil frying thing? Can't remember what I said now ha
@@TheGreyGardener1990 awesome mate and I just watched it back I think you said compost maneur to stop the moisture drying up and thanks for replying hopefully I get 1 or 2 this autumn will keep you updated
No bother. I'm sure you'll get something. Maybe start them indoors on a window sill with plenty of light (if possible) that way they should get off to a bit of a faster start
Thanks for this, is it too late to start the seeds now?
Not too late. You should still get a decent Harvest. Start indoors next to a window or greenhouse so it gets a good head start.
@@TheGreyGardener1990 yay thanks so much!
does this work in work in the US as well?
I don't see why not. Maybe some additional watering would be needed. I imagine there will be varieties more tolerant to your climate so maybe you give that a Google?
Do the leaves die off naturally, or do I need to clear them to help the pumpkins grow/ripen? Thanks
Naturally mate. If you wanted to remove some around the pumpkins it won't hurt
@@TheGreyGardener1990 Wow, fast reply! Thanks! 👍
Question pumpkin is a north American plant. The like heavy humid heat. How do you deal with cooler british weather?
It doesn't seem to effect it. They obviously do better if we have a good summer but it's enough
@@TheGreyGardener1990 cool! Thanks.
@@timesthree5757 no problem 😊
It's my first time growing pumpkins I've just noticed that some of the plants leaves are starting to yellow. Any idea why ?
Could be lack of water or nutrients. Hard to tell without seeing it. Baby leaves die off if it hasn't been in the ground for long. The plant does die back when the pumpkins are large but not really this early
Is it too late to plant the pumpkin seeds in July?
I would say so I think
If the pumpkins are turning out really small when they turn orange, is this maybe caused by a mineral deficiency? Is there something you should do in the fertilizer to supplment this and how do you know which one?
How many pumpkins are on one plant? If lots they will be small. If you want bigger ones, two to three pumpkins per plant is what is needed
@@TheGreyGardener1990 Thanks. I'll check on that. I think I am about 2 or 3 per plant. But I didn't think to check. But last year they were bigger.
Gardening is such a useful skill. Its amazing that people can do their own skills and building.
As a comparison I've planted two plants this year, left 4 to 5 pumpkins on each and 2 of them are football size currently so it could be down to a few things. Soil condition being a big factor. I haven't fed them or anything.
Thanks for this video. Going to be my first gardening project with my 5 year old this year!
Ah how nice 🙂 best of luck!
I've planted my seeds I'm my back yard, could it damage pipe underground??
No you should be ok. They don't go really deep and they would just grow round it anyway
@@TheGreyGardener1990 ok thanks alot
My seed packaging says 110 days to harvest. If I want to wait a week or two after predicted harvest, will the pumpkins stay healthy on the vine, or will they begin to rot if not harvest at correct time?
There's always a chance of rot especially if the weather is really wet. I always just say give it a go though aa they might be ok
@@TheGreyGardener1990 thanks for the quick reply!
if mine don't grow in time because I've planted it at the beginning of June, and now It has a yellow flower on it and the plant is huge , but if it any of them don't grow before Halloween, I'll try again next year haha
You might get lucky, you never know 🤞🤞
@@TheGreyGardener1990 🤞 I hope that one grows
I’m growing pumpkins for the first time but I planted them too close to the sidewalk! Stems are starting to grow into the sidewalk but have roots growing in the ground! Is it ok to pull them out of the ground and direct them away from the sidewalk? Or should I just leave them
I'm not aware of the vines being able to root? As long as the main part of the plant is where you want it to be I'd say you can pull a few out and direct it yeah. Just try it
Thanx a bunch! I can send a pic if you’d like to see
Thanx a bunch! I can send a pic if you’d like to see
I actually didn’t do any of this I just planted mine in the ground and it grew naturally and I just don’t pay attention to time
why do i snap off the pumkins when they are the size of a tennis ball this is my first year growing them and i dont know nothing about this
It is said that if you want to grow the biggest you can, you should only keep 1 or 2 pumpkins per plant. This year I have put two plants in the ground and litterally left them to do their own thing. I've got 15 pumpkins of a fairly decent size. That's the theory behind it but in reality it doesn't make too much difference
Just got some seeds from my halloween pumpkins, what do I do with them until april? I know some seeds should go in the fridge - not sure if pumpkins need that? Any help appreciated :)
Yeah they can go in the fridge. A cool dry place should be enough in an envelope pr something similar. They need drying out first so place on a paper towel turning them every now and again for maybe 3-4 weeks but keep checking as it depends on condition/temperature.
@@TheGreyGardener1990 ahh that's great, thanks for the advice :)
Also - do you reckon I could plant them in.. march? Or february? And keep them on the windowsill/sunroom until it gets warm
@@jimjam6598 march maybe yeah but the earlier you plant, the more at risk of them becoming 'leggy'
@@TheGreyGardener1990 what do you mean by leggy?
@@jimjam6598 if plants are grown inside and need more light than they're getting, they will put on growth which is faster than normal causing them to become longer. Better to Google the term so you can see some images and a better explanation haha
Hmmm I couldn't find this kind of pumpkins in Philippines 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ah right, maybe not suited to your climate perhaps?
Probably a lot of good information here, but I have the volume on my tablet maxed out and I can't hear you. And I don't have hearing problems.
Fair enough. Over 100k views and I don't think that's been mentioned before but something to note for me going forward. I've also had a listen back just on my phone and I can hear it fine 🤷♂️
