Wow, Dijon really cuts the mustard! :)
😂
That's spicy!
France is truly a beautiful country. Other countries get more hype…France delivers the good!
Loved loved loved this! I felt like I was watching the Amelia & JP version of "Emily in Paris" with the great French background music, etc. Funny story: years ago my brother and I accidentally ended up in Dijon for a few days and we LOVED it there. The people were so friendly. We also went to Beaune for a wine tasting and that was amazing as well. Great video!
Great story! Beaune was so beautiful!
@@Mir-wx5ui Thanks for your concern, but I already moved from the US to Europe a number of years ago, and I know how hard it is. Of course Emily is fiction. I was just commenting on Amelia's and JP's production values for this video, which I thought were delightful.
I can tell you guys loved that city. You are acting more like you are on a honeymoon than you ever have.... Good for you!!
It feels that way! 😊
I love your channel and those Grey Peupon inserts had me rolling. Such great memories.
Glad you like them! They made us feel nostalgic! 😊
On Numbeo a comparison between Dijon and Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, the country where I live, shows that rent in Dijon is 48% lower than in Porto, which is shocking. Most Portuguese have been priced out of the rental market in both Porto and LIsbon. Students now have a really hard time studying in those two cities. But, on the positive side for Porto, restaurants and groceries there are much cheaper. You can have about four cups of coffee in Porto for the price of one in Dijon and two bottles of wine for the price of two. But, workers in Dijon make a lot more money on average than those in Portugal so they can afford the higher prices.
I find interesting how you guys look so relaxed and content there. You seem to fit in so well. I like how you present your information. And Amelia sitting in the chair getting her hair done was hilarious!
It looks like a truly magical city...I loved the time I spent in Europe (and working in Spain). I'd go back in a heartbeat if things were different. So for the present, will enjoy your lively and entertaining videos!
Really insightful video. Have never considered Dijon but it looks really attractive as you present it here. France outside of Paris is definitely on our list.
Wow!🤩 I think this was my favorite video yet! You both look so happy and it seemed so effortless. Like Amelia said, you got lost in Dijon. Meaning, you realized that you had to move on. What a wonderful feeling! I loved the owls 🦉😃 I joined your live abroad program and I’m really hoping to invest more time in it soon. I still work a full-time job, but this is important! Dijon looks beautiful. Europe is definitely on my radar. Hopefully as a dual citizen. But even if not, it seems like you and so many people you talk to are making it work. 🎊💗👍🥳 Thank you Amelia and JP!! 👏🫶
Thanks! You can do it! 🥳
Beautiful, what a pretty city AND the public transportation, wonderful!! So clean too! Perfectly fits my budget. Thanks for sharing!
thank you, You look so happy there. Dijon looks like a wonderful mix between smaller, quieter ways of living but still diverse, Thanks for sharing.
My first time in France was a few months ago. There are so many beautiful regions to see. I was in Provence. But I will be back for the others.
Voila , this has a Disneyland feeling to it . I could really see myself living there . I'm already walking around doing a Maurice Chevalier impersonation . Thanks
LOVE the Grey Poupon additions.
Really interesting video. I've never considered Dijon at all but this was a wonderful introduction. Great job!
Love it JP and Amelia
Merci for this video. Years ago I lived in Geneva (NOT affordable) and visited Dijon often. My American expat cousin lives in Dole, near Dijon, and likes it even more. ❤from a big fan , Joanie 🐻 at Lake Tahoe
Hi Joanie! I lived in Tahoe for years! I'm in Reno currently, looking to move to Washington...but every time this lovely couple come out with a video like this I want to return to Europe!
@@feliciasampson8032 Hello Felicia. Since you’re in Reno you’ll know the name of my home, Truckee. I say Tahoe cuz few know about Truckee. Raised my boys at South Shore but it’s changed a lot. Traffic at the Lake is insane now. Outside our little downtown area Truckee is peaceful and the residents are wonderful. Enjoy your next adventure!
@@jaydee45for some reason my last two responses to you vanished! I used to live in Truckee, and Donner Lake. Took my dog to Martis daily. Love the area. Spent the last part of my life in SLT in Montgomery Estates. Have so many fond memories of powder days, hiking and paddling, etc., it's crazy and $$$ now.
Great presentation guys.
Looking good you guys,enjoying life.
Another great video!
Thank you for continued good information.
Great video you guys!
Traveled for 20 plus year. I was dirty 20 years ago with no trash can due to fear of terrorism. Laat time I was there in 2018 it was clean with clear trash bags for people to use.
You give good information. Merci beaucoup.
Great video!!🎉
Beautiful video! The town was certainly impressive for many reasons. Thank you!
Great video! I'll look into Dijon
My favorite of your videos!
It looks like a great way to have a home base while slow traveling Europe
Il est important de savoir parler au moins deux langues. Je parle français, also English y Espanol tambien. Bon voyage en France!
Je suis d'accord.
Thanks for this! Heading to Corsica then Liguria next week. Looking forward to it immensely!
France is in my top 3 places to emigrate to. Thanks so much you two!
Great video, watching your travels to get ideas where to go when I retire.
Adding Dijon to my list of cities to visit for retirement possibilities. Thanks for the awesome video
Loved the video. On location. Thanks so much
Looks wonderful! And a $2000 budget sounds wonderful as well.
Dijon looks like such a beautiful city. Your videos make it so we audience can travel vicariously through you all.
That's wild! Pretty fab find! Stunning place!
Thanks, JP & Amelia, for showcasing another beautiful city. I know you put in so much work in making these videos for us. The joys that you share are truly evident in this video of Dijon. Very positive feelings for the city even though their mustard isn't my favorito.
absolutely fantastic! Great vlog on a great city. Love you guys, safe travels!!!
Thanks so much!
Great Video
Nice video. Looks like a great place to visit, and maybe more. Thanks!
Seems so much nicer than South America. Maybe you can do a video on the differences between Europe and South America for expats and slow travelers.
Nice video. Love from the Netherlands
Amelia looking great in bright colors ❤🎉
Wonderful video! Considering an add to our bucket list, other than the language barrier. Really enjoyed this video & town!
Can’t wait to see where you go next, hopefully somewhere in France!
I want to go there, now! I just got back from Montpellier France last month and I loved it so much! Great trams there, too and a nice University town! Very modern architecture, too!
There are many wonderful towns and villages in France that are not very expensive. Learning the language is part of the fun and excitement of the expat experience. For retired Americans, you have article 18 of the U.S. - French double tax treaty. La belle France!
You both seem much happier in Europe than Ecuador. Wonderful video du jour!
Great new ‘do, gal!
Wonderful video! It's a nice change from the large French cities - while I hear that they have their charm, I am equally often hearing about the high prices in cities like Paris.
Dijon is a gorgeous little city -- we have been there twice on scouting trips for a retirement home. It's definitely in the top five.
For the weather, it is the wettest Springtime in Northern Europe for decades, so normally you will have warmer, sunnier and dryer weather ;)
Dijon looks lovely, and I didn't realize how convenient it is with the shopping mall and tram. I prefer a somewhat larger city and still have my heart set on living in Lyon someday but I would definitely plan a weekend trip to Dijon. Thanks for sharing!
Great video! I'd love to live in France and I'm so glad you are doing videos of this lovely country.
Glad you enjoy it!
The Pophair person did a really good job. Your hair is beautiful.
Love these guys. Albania is our new favorite place, oh wait...I can appreciate that!
Dijon looks beautiful and seems to have lots to do!
Awesome recommendations! Thanks so much for covering pretty much every question we would have.
Wife and I are finishing up our stay in Ireland. Although we are out in the country, it’s been far more expensive for housing compared to what you two have gotten. That you both so very much. Great job.
I'm very happy for you guy's enjoyed life
Welcome Guys ;) hope all the best to you !
Condo prices are DIRT CHEAP you mentioned compared to the U.S. Wish you could have shown a few.
Cheap because the French hate living there.
been watching your videos off and on for the last 2 years because I love South America. You both look so happy and healthy....and now in Europe! Cool! :) Looking forward to more videos from this part of the world!
Thanks so much!
How beautiful~! Glad you mentioned the mustard ~ ha, that's the first thing I thought of. Gorgeous footage. There seems to be something for everyone. Thank you! 🩵
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing with us.
Aw, you guys are so cute. Dijon looks lovely.
Thanks for the videos and the tips. You gave us some French food for thought with this one. We may just consider Dijon for our future travels based on this video. Bon Voyage! 🥂
Dijon looks beautiful.
This was an excellent video - think smaller cities are often the most liveable and Dijon looks a cracker!
Nice sum up of Djon ……thanks for sharing….Alex🇬🇷
Love it!
But I say if you move somewhere you need to assimilate and try to live in the language of where you are all the time.
Moving somewhere and then hanging out in expat areas or when you go out it is with expats...just don't move there. Vacation. Less you are ready to adopt the language fully, you are only a tourist.
Weather particularly awful this year, that’s why. Nice video
You two are a very cute couple. Thx for all the great info!
Thanks! 😊
Mon dieu! Your new haircut is beautiful!!! The woman at Pophair is brilliant!
love you guys. unconventionals!!!
Please visit Bordeaux, its so beautiful and the food is great.
Agreed.
Terrific video! Really enjoyed seeing this wonderful new-to-me smaller city in France. Very well done! I can see my 4 years of high school French paying off nicely (after an intense brush-up😂). Thank you for preparing this - safe travels.
Glad you enjoyed it!
13:10 This single statement made me head to Google fights after the video and start investigating flight cost in various months. You mentioned Lyon and that’s another location I’ve been really curious about. Great video!!!
Funny, I have been living 3 hours by train from Dijon for the past 35 years... always wanted to go, and just never got around to it. OK, now I must go!
Great! 😊
ty
Thank you both ❤❤❤ love it we are looking everyday for a town like this ….. I thought Nimes was my favourite city but this is is looking wonderful
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just a quick FYI, When looking at the price of a restaurant meal in France there is a service charge embedded in the menu price. It's called "Service Compris", usually 15%. It functions somewhat like a tip, so you generally don't tip in France unless you want to show some special consideration, maybe an extra 5% or so. But it is not expected. So when you see a menu price of 12 euros, think of it more as a 10 euro menu price and a 2 euro tip.
The weather in France this spring has been unusually wet and overcast. Even here on the Côte d'Azur where it is normally sunny.
Very nice, New subscriber.
Awesome, thank you!
We would go back in a heartbeat... :)
Dijon is so beautiful. Thank you for taking us along on the "owl tour" with you! 💙🤍❤
Why not visit some of the cities in southwestern France? It's nice and less expensive I believe. Lots of sunshine in the SW.
Thank you so much for all you do. It is really helpful to figure out so many decisions about travelling through Europe once I can finally retire. You guys are awesome!
I am Chilean-American and my dad is Argentinian. All my family is in Chile, so if you ever need any tips on Chile, let me know. I would be really happy to help. Best
Thanks!
Love the idea of France, especially the food culture. I think I'd want to be more in the south in the winter though. Maybe Toulouse.
We LOVED Toulouse! It's beautiful, and the vibe was relaxed. Definitely a top contender for expats to consider!
Loved Dijon France. I’d choose that or Ax en Provence.
Was there in November. Cold and constant rain.
Awesome video. I was thinking Dijon sounds like a great place to consider, that is until you mentioned the lack of sunshine. I've got to have sunshine.
There isn’t the concentrated expat community like in Paris, but that is one of its appeals. However, there are plenty of English-speakers. You can start at the English-language bookstore. There are English language meetups arranged every couple of weeks on Facebook. The difference between Dijon expats in Paris or villages in the touristy Provence region is that many English speakers first arrive for work or something like that. They are quickly absorbed into their professional community and if they have children they have a school and kid-based social circle.
Also, you forgot to mention the prolific number of Michelin restaurants AND the Cité de Gastronomie that showcase its UNESCO special culture designation.
We actually did mention and show a couple Michelin restaurants 👍
Dijon certainly looks like a beautiful city, thank you for the video. The lack of an expat community is actually a plus for my wife and I, as everywhere we have looked into we try to keep our distance from the bigger expat areas.
Great video! We loved the tiny insights like the Amazon delivery. The retro commercials were such a hit with us too… still joking about them 😂🤣 Keep up the great work❤️🔥
Glad you enjoyed it!
Maybe it was my imagination, but you guys seemed more relaxed and at home in Dijon than you have in many other places. Thanks for this video; it opened my eyes to living in France. I assumed that it would be just too expensive to consider, but you showed that it is quite affordable. I guess I have to brush up my high school French!
Thanks, I had no idea Dijon was a city.
@@rreegan6956 And I relish the thought of the city getting on people's radar. Had to do it....
Great fun! I had never thought of that part of the globe. Cool. Rather learn Latin Spanish tho'!. Hey JP, the production is a major uptick from the early Ecuador vids! Thanks for the consistent balance of local history and current costs,
Amelia 👍..top video.
Thanks! 😃
I think you two should set up at least a semi-permanent base in Dijon -- Amelia, you had a huge smile on your face this entire video 😊😂❤😊😂❤😊😂❤😊😂
There is a lot of smaller cities in France that are delightful especially if you are interested in food and art! Has been there three times and always want to go back! My favourites are Gothic cathedrals and you have many at different places like Rouen.
I also was really impressed with Rouen. I stayed for a month and didn't want to leave. Such a cool vibe.
It is so friggin pretty there. I guess if I wanted the easy life and was ready to retire I'd move there but I guess I'm a masochist and want to go somewhere I can work study and struggle a little. Better than being bored and lonely in a gorgeous place.
Loved the Five Guys in the background of a great food city!😂
