You know what I never noticed until now, is that even when he's try to stop her from leaving he never grabs and holds on to her, he touches her arm and then gives her space. Several times, it's a touch and then a back away, it's subtle but a good way to highlight the differences between him and her husband
In the book from the beginning he knew she was fleeing from an abused husband, he saw her twirling a ring that wasn't there
He used to take reports for woman who reported their abusive husband's so he knew all the signs and he understands what they go through and not to be touchy

Josh Duhamel is an great Actor. The way He portrayes Alex is a masterpiece. " Alex" is an example of what a REAL MAN should bee.

I watched this movie several times and only now when I’ve watched this scene I cry 😢; it’s so beautiful that he loves her and wants to protect her from her abusive husband even if harm might come to him and his family. He’s so gentle to her while when you see Katie with her husband even when he’s being lovely to her, he grabs her while he’s got her in his control….I’ve never had a boyfriend as I’m scared to end up with Katie’s husband; I want to be with someone like Alex x

You can feel that Alex is a humble and kind guy right true but still a bit of a player when He want's to charm someone like this super sensual person Katie. A person one can look up to and wish to bee as a man. Not many has of course his looks, but anyhow. Great acting Josh and Julianne.

You notice how Alex kisses Katie, knowing perfectly well that she is still married to Kevin? You would think that after she mentioned that her husband is a cop (keyword is "husband"), Alex would be like, "Wait a minute, you're still married to this guy, and you've been cheating on him with me this whole time?" But no, he never says anything about that. It's like he doesn't care that she is cheating on her husband with him. Of course, it is dangerous to leave an abuser, so it is kind of understandable.
Her husband’s a abusive twat, so I think that anyone would be willing to give her a free pass
Especially when the abuser is a Cop but she did leave him though lol literally ran tf away it was him who was still obsessed and chasing after her
He knows that her husband hurted Katie. Alex want to help her from bad situation but she doesn't trust him so Alex tell her what he felt that he in love with Katie

That was a great scene and the only aspect of the movie that was grazed over was the fact that she was still married to the abusive alcoholic husband. However, as someone else had also stated, due to the diabolical nature of the husband, you could not see him signing divorce papers willingly.
This movie was somewhat realistic, because one never knows what someone like her husband would do, when trying to escape. This movie reminds me of "Sleeping with the Enemy" starring Julia Roberts.
