Extra Small Tiny House Built for a Traveling Minimalist - Full Tour

- Tour this extra small tiny house! It was built by Seth Reidy from Nelson Tiny Houses in BC, Canada for a travelling, bird-watching minimalist friend who wanted a simple home on wheels. This tiny home is just 16-feet long, including the 2-foot bump out for the kitchen counter. It has open concept shelving, a small workspace with storage below, a ladder up to the sleeping loft, and a spacious living room with a wide bench for sitting, napping, and hanging out, that also has loads of storage space beneath it. As an extra space to sit, there are hooks for a hammock that can be hung across the living room. The bathroom will have a shower and toilet but hadn't been completed at the time of our visit.
For Seth, it was fun to build such a tiny house because it's reminiscent of the size of tiny we used to see at the beginning of the tiny house movement. He has built many beautiful tiny houses of all different sizes and you can check them out on his website, Instagram and CZcams, linked below.

Finally, a tiny house with a library!
It's tiny houses like this one that made me fall in love with the movement. So pure in its intentions and not overwhelmed by gadgetry and converting furniture. Beautiful.
I agree.
Same
The giant goosneck trailer 'tiny' homes are ridiculous to me.
@@FeelItRising FR. When you have three bedrooms, is it really a tiny house anymore? lol
@@FeelItRising I mean, a lot of those goosenecks utilize the gooseneck to have a standing bedroom that tall people can use, and that's pretty valuable.
Sleeping lofts are great for kids or guests, but I know I wouldn't want to live day after day unable to stand up and change in my bedroom lol.
That being said... A lot of those goosenecks are huge lol
Yeah, I LOVE going back to the roots of the movement. this design is the epitome of sometimes less is more. those walls full of open shelving around the bathroom just took my breath away omg
The house looks tiny from the outside but it is quite spacious inside.
It's an educated guess on my part that photographers use short focal length lenses in such videos to make spaces appear larger than they actually are. Is someone trying to fool us? I dunno, but I do know something about photography.
Best to keep in mind measurements I believe he said 8 by 16 bout 25% larger than your average small bedroom
I like that design of house..do you have a house plan of this wonderful design ☺️☺️
@Jon Commons 8 x 16 might be near to the size of a rental cabin we see sometimes. Mini kitchen, etc. They work.
The main problem with that size range isn't so much the living space, but little room for seasonal clothes and current clothes. Then there's the hobbies. Oh the hobbies. Art supplies for my spouse. Model airplanes and trains, firearms, ham radio, archery, and books. Where will those along with support supplies for each be stored?
Books! Nice to see a tiny with a place for lots of books.
@Kurt M. Yes, that's what I use now, but I have lots of boxes stored with actual books in them that I wish I had room for. 🙂
This house is just perfect. All I would add is solar panels on top and roof guttering drain for water storage.
the water storage/gathering would most likely only work for 3 seasons...this build is located in the Kootenay which gets a full-on winter. (I used to live in the area)_1060442.jpg
@@brucecggallagher1949 I live in the sub tropic area between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. So I would be able to access town water as needed when in a park etc.
@@sisqui1950 then of course this would be great for you!
One of my favorite tiny houses! This is what they should be and somehow it seems more complete and contains more usable personal items than the bigger "tiny" homes.
Yeah. I am super impressed by the function, space and airiness of this design.
@@qrm8772 Except it would be nice to have a door instead of a curtain, on the bathroom.
Back to the roots of the movement, not a McMansion on wheels. Thank goodness!
theWZZA Agreed.
its a mcnugget😂
Nice to see a video where the house isn't cleaned and organized as a show-home. This looks real and how one really lives in a tiny house. Wish the space where the bathroom will be was shown (to get an idea of scale ... not just to see what things were stashed in the room 😆)
Looks like the house is clean to me. Just got stuff out like every normal house. You know, lived in.
I would add eye hooks to bookshelves to hold books in place when moving his home ,that way you could bungycord everything in place. Love the simply of what you need incorporated into the knicks and crannies.
Love to see a library in a tiny house, and such a practical and eye-appealing way to encase the washroom space with the shelving!
Even tho small, it is one of the best I have seen!
Now this is a 'real' tiny house! Minimal and small. What a lovely way to live!
Looks like there is almost everything one would need
Seth from Nelson's tiny house...they do the most AMAZING homes! Great to see him show this one. :D
That would be amazing in the winter with snow all around, cosy and warm!
...Not when taking a shower outside...or having someone paying your water and electric bills.
This is a great house. I often miss ‘normal’ tinny homes, as it’ll become bigger and bigger ( and way more expensive ) in the last few years. :(
My favorite thing about this house is the number of books that fit into. Even in 'big' tiny houses one sees only a very few books.
this is the first tiny house that actualy looks like someone is living in
Seth is a fantastic builder. Love his house's. This is the home of a book lover not a minimalist 💖
Beautiful. I'd sleep on the bed downstairs, if I had this tiny house and use the loft for all my clothes lol
Just what the doctor ordered for relaxation 😊
THIS is a proper tiny house. The way to go, imo. Cozy :o)
Simple, beautiful and practical. What's not to love I don't agree with those 35 haters.
I love this tiny house. Building a tiny home is an artform, thinking about space, time, air, earth and sky, where to place things, what to keep or discard.
Extremely well said.
Love it ! This is the REAL "Tiny House".....thumbs up !!!!
I absolutely love this house!! I've watched so many videos on tiny homes but this home is by far my favorite!! Perfect size, the library wall/bathroom, it just feels right!
This house is beautiful....love the storage wall around the bathroom.
Love this house! Back to the basics, which is the best thing about tiny houses 😁😁👍👍👍
Great video. I'm not a fan of the fancy tiny homes with 35 foot trailers and jumbo washer dryer combos etc etc. There's something very strange about what's been happening in the tiny house movement with regards to the original call to minimalism and simplicity vs glam tinies. I'm an old school fan: wood, tiny size, warm feel, simple, rustic, cozy. Lloyd Kahn and Jay Shafer stuff😂
Yes yes yes
You do realize that there's a spectrum of commitment to tiny, right? Like, people have different needs. I think people choose to live in a tiny house for different reasons. Try to keep an open mind.
@@fredkennedy8435 there's also no issue remembering where the movement has come from, which originally was based on needs and minimalism.
Also on "keeping an open mind" does that mean the judgement by the tiny house community on home owners with McMansions is wrong? Given that houses originally started out small and grew because of the different spectrum of wants to where we've reached the point we have now?
Fred Kennedy There's nothing worse than typed, low-key passive-aggressive comments. I'll try to keep an open mind🤣
@@fredkennedy8435 Just wanted to say legally in the US 'Tiny' is up to 400 sq ft and 400 - 1000 sq ft is classed as 'Small'. We see a lot of small houses being called tiny simply because the owners are downsizing from much larger homes. Depends on how pedantic you are.
How refreshing to get back to real tiny houses once again. Beautifully and simply done. Tks to all for sharing this inspired solution.
Finally a tiny house how they were at the beginning, still serving a purpose and affordable
It’s very basic but it feels very complete. It has everything you could need to be comfortable. The hammock would be my favourite spot!
Not for traveling. You have to move it the same as any other larger house on wheels
moneymagnetelizabeth I don’t really get your comment.
Where was the bathroom? Why couldn't we see it? And why is the shower on the outside? Why does it have to rely on free water and free electricity? Too many questions for me. I don't understand why it wouldn't have an indoor shower or solar or water tanks...this is nothing more than a kids clubhouse.
This is not meant in a mean way: It looks more spartan/frugal than minimalist to me. Perhaps those terms aren't mutually exclusive, maybe I've just come to associate minimalism with this very clean but still comfortable style that is popularised on CZcams... Idk, he obviously doesn't own much, but it still looks a bit too cluttered for my taste. But I really like how small his house is. I find it a bit strange how big tiny houses have become since they first started, so seeing someone get back to the basics is really nice and refreshing. I'm hoping to build my own tiny Tiny House one day, similar in size to this.
Adorable! Is a very personal way of living. WHICH is totally different for every body. A work of art. I do love those tini houses. Thanks for the tour.
So tiny yet so incredibly appealing.
A beautiful house and on wheels too. Cool. Well done and thank ypu for sharing.
Same Same
Being a financial minimalist, this is perfect for me❤️Thank you so much for inspiring and motivating to keep working on things I truly love and am passionate about because one day the hard work will pay off🤗✨
Hi Mat and Danielle. Really sweet home. I'm also a big fan of Nelson designs, and would love to see a follow-up tour when the bathroom's completed. Thanks again for all you bring to these videos.
Yesss for the library!
Simple, basic, brilliant build! Back to the essence of what a tiny house was designed to be:)
Just what I'm looking for. A tiny tiny home with a library. I can live like a minimalist but I could never ever give up my books.
Love the bump-out kitchen. Can’t show the bathroom as it is completely filled to the ceiling with a secret shameful toilet paper hoard. :P
Since he is a minimalist, I assume he prefers a single reusable sock. :)
I love the original tiny size tiny house, this is all about being tiny, not those big ass 300-400 on trailer condo. Thanks for interviewing Seth, he is a great guy!
Everyone is like...what's behind those blinders !? : )
True *tiny* home living. I love it!
I'm an extreme claustrophobic and most lofts are an anathema to me but this loft's windows give so much light and a sense of space that I could almost imagine myself sleeping there. I also love the porch entrance - makes it look more like a little house
I am VERY impressed with what you built!
Minimalism is addicting. We quit our jobs and renovated a class a motorhome to hit the road as resellers full time. Going from a 2 br 1400 sgft loft to 350 sqft was tough. Once it was done it felt great. We constantly want to get rid of things and organize now!
So cute and perfect for me. I travel and write and I like to keep it simple.
I live in the UK the average 2 bedroom new build here is around 23ft x 15ft foot print, so when I see some tiny homes they're not that tiny to me, this a true and very nice tiny home. But agree it depends on your needs.
Very beautiful house!
Adorable and hilarious that there's an electric paper-shredder!😊
@fourteenlizard LOL
Very beautiful 😃😍👍
The bathroom cover up was actually cool and unique. I've never seen that before😂👍
Yeah! I love Seth! and I love NTHs, their designs are great!
The Best tiny house on youtube !!! LOL! 💥🔥🙏
Wonderful. And the music is just right!! Thank you.
That storage around the bathroom is awesome. Having the high celling and lots of windows really opens up the place, Great place to just get away.
This is just lovely, and represents the true meaning of a "tiny" home. Nicely designed. I love the bathroom with shelves- and the beautiful curtain. You can really feel a part of nature in this home!
Yay tiny houses!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful spot. I would like one exactly like that as a cottage. Not for a couple. I wonder with all the books and stuff on shelves how he did manage for travelling with it. But it seems it is a permanent location sort of . Also I would have a visit of the toilet. Very good views of the surrounding area. Great idea to feed the birds just in front of the window. And the window in front of the counter is very appreciated.
Adorable little house
Love this tiny house!!
Nice idea! I have so many ideas now to make Our Tiny House more great and awesome, thanks!
Nice tiny house
Thanks for sharing. Did I blink when the bathroom was videoed?
This is my kind of tiny house I'd have on a horsefarm! In Florida! With solar Pannels! I want an efficient fridge, way to shower/toilet, and an AC unit as well as a way to charge my laptop and Phone. That's all that I will have also and a washer/dryer combo! and a Hammock!!
Thoreau's simple cabin on Walden Pond was approximately 10x15 feet. Interesting how we gravitate toward those dimensions as we return to a minimalist tiny house design.
I thought of that too
I love Nelson tiny houses! So good to see something new from them.
The interior design is great. I really like the shelving that surrounds the bathroom area. Not a fan of the ladder access lofts -- I would opt for some kind of staircase setup.
It's bullocks getting old!
Nice. Great ideas and so great to see an actual "tiny." Lately it seems like tiny houses aren't so tiny
Perfect!!
Adorable. I'd move in for sure.
Very cute
It's like a (somewhat large) apartment on wheels. Love it!
I love Seth! Watched his channel for years now...
For some reason I like seeing tiny houses with some doors , even if they lead to no-where.
Great space!! I love that someone is going back to the basics!!
So nice.
I like this layout a lot for the space that it has. Plenty of cubbies just didn't see where to put daily clothes maybe a little hanging closet. I'm sure he's happy to have it
one of my favs you’ve ever done. thanks y’all!
This was a very very nice tiny house. Wish we could of met Seth, it looks like he would be very interesting with all those books. Thanks for sharing.
This is probably one of my favorite tiny house builds in a long time. I watch lots of van builds, so this has the same cozy feel. 🤓 Karen
Loved this build!
Beautiful!
Goodness, a tiny house that's actually tiny, not a 53' semi trailer.
Haha right?!?
Really love this one, esp how the builder gave the tour, GREAT idea
WOW AMAZING VIDEO VERY EDUCATIONAL 👍👍👍
Looks cozy
I could live in that house full time - add water collection, some solar panels, a Dickinson propane stove inside, and a little couch table desk, and it would be perfect.
This is a really cute tiny house just perfect for a single person
Very cool.. the hammock was a great addition
This house is so cute! I love these tiny house tours! I've been into zero-waste and sustainable living for a long time now, I even share stuff on CZcams but haven't really explored minimalism yet!
Absolutely love it🙏🏾👌🏾🌞
Только недавно нашла ваш аккаунт и это просто находка! Жду новые видео ❤️
so simple and beautiful! really love this one!
Great idea using the 2x4 wall for storage!
Very nice! A kindle would help with all the books, plus a cd case to hold all the cd’s will free up more space to get rid of the plastic.
Simple is Best, i love this oneee has more of a vibeee
This house symbolizes what I like about tiny houses.
Looks small and unlivable on the outside = feels bigger and livable on the inside.
This one in particularly tasteful. So many of these homes feel like they’re trying to fit a full size house into one small corridor and it makes it feel smaller than this one even though it’s 3 times the size.
