That’s a beautiful piece! I just acquired a Gibson 1920’s banjo mandolin, and the sound is unbelievable!

    Talk about punchy!
Imagine how funny it'd be to stand next to a 5 string banjo player and just blast him.
    He wouldn't be loud enough.
    It sounds beautiful though.

The mando banjo should be the alto banjo as the mandolin is the alto member instrument of the mandolin family. And the standard jazz tenor banjo is tuned down a fifth below so it is cgda like the mandola, which is the tenor voice source of mandolin family.

The mandola is actually the alto version of the mandolin family corresponding to the viola in the violin family. Traditionally, music for viola and for mandola were written in alto clef in true pitch. To make it easier for mandolin players to read for mandola, many publishers used treble clef with a convention that middle C represented the C string. Mandolin corresponds to the violin and is the "soprano" of the family. Mandocello corresponds to the cello. Mandobass (rare) corresponds to the string bass The octave mandolin and Irish bouzouki are more recent instrument sand do not have corresponding instrument in the violin family. Violin-viola-cello-bass, mandolin-mandola-mandocello-mandobass are the 2 families.

I said in the video I don’t play Mandolin, I’m a guitar player. Just showing a piece of history that’s been in my family for almost 100 years. Although I have learned more since this video was taken
