I gotta say as poor as they are, they have a sense of community and sense of purpose. These things are extremely important to being human. These are also the things that are lacking in America, at least that has been my experience.
You said 90% are muslims and 10% are indians. Fact is all are indians, its different religions. Muslims make up approximately 30% of dharavi. 60% are Hindu. 10% are of other religions including Christians.

Wow! I have never seen a living so different. It makes me feel even more thankful for what we have in America. My heart goes out to the people in India but only in these poor places.
I pray that one day all these people will leave the slum behind and start living in brand new housing with respect and dignity. They are just poor for the moment, things will change soon, inshaAllah. Thank you Tural Travel English for bringing this important topic to the fore front.

How is the Dharavi slum different from a slum in Europe like Lunik IX in Slovakia and Canada Real Galiana in Spain?

That is why India worked so hard to have the world's largest population overtaking China. Never mind if the majority of Indians will still live in slums and never get to enjoy the benefits of highest GDP and Indian superpowerful economy.
