You can't. The Lasso and the Marquee selectors select both front and back. Only the Paint Mask Brush can paint in the front without affecting the back. I hope this helps!

How you gonna get clean and smooth edges on masking???? for example at 2:55

By having a high-subdivided mesh. The smother the mesh, the cleaner the masking. I hope this helps!
