If sony is going to make a handheld device make a psp with the same terabytes as the ps5 and put different games on there. That's nothing but a dedicated TV screen for the playstation 5. I already have a TV for my playstation 5 I don't need that. Make a psp with the same power as the playstation 5 I'll go for something like that.
@@ThouShaltNotCommitAdulteryI don't think they could put that much power into a portable device but a good thing they could do is give the portable a dedicated wifi connection that you could pay for monthly
The problem with people who complained about the PlayStation Vita was that Vita was ahead of its time for the best gaming performance with like PS2 between PS3 AKA PlayStation 2 Pro that's what the Vita was. The PlayStation Vita memory card was expensive, and it didn't hold storage for half the games and the lack of Studios effort in the games like Call of Duty Declassified and a few others. But I think they should make a handheld full on portable one like a PlayStation 5 portable (AKA PS5P OR PS5M. You know have the ability where you can put in SSD in there an LED display or OLED display that is playable Outdoors I like their PSP. I mean there is a technology where they can use where downloading the disc and then reinstall and download the game from the system into the handheld it's the same technique for digital download also it would be expensive you're looking about at least the same price of a PlayStation 5 or a little extra more like 500 bucks to like $600. And I would buy it just like the PlayStation portal.
The play is to get this into many households so they can really push what they want to push out...and then at that point everyone will come running. And I'll be sitting back saying I told you so...haha
Very well said - I can’t wait for the Portal, it will help me get a lot more out of my PS5. People seem to be mad at it for not being a ‘new PSP’, despite the fact thats not what it is or was ever meant to be. Its like being angry that a motorbike isn’t a car.
the issue is that its a handheld and it gonna lag due to connectivity issues, not all countries have that stable and fast internet and they couldve easilt pulled off an rog ally kind of handheld with better performance because games are very well optimised for ps
Bruh you must be team Xbox it’s funny how sad it is that Sony and Microsoft have to beef like this all the time it’s really sad been an owner of both consoles. The PlayStation is certainly more entertaining. In my opinion the exclusives are much better.
@@dylanbarreto6529 Not even my guy. I have them all anyway. I'm Team Great Gaming. I just don't like arguments that give free passes to things that suck by saying "you already knew it sucked" or "that's just how it is".
Facts...I think this system is gonna be perfect for the casual gamers...this is made for the Console gamers who don't wanna have to download all this extra stuff on a handheld device like it's a PC...there is a reason there are console gamers and PC gamers...and this device is catered to it's core PS5 Console gamers.
Defending bad product design because you “expected it” doesn’t validate the product. And watching this completely, that seems to be the only argument you have.
@@CKidM I just want an explanation why you used that excuse only. And when it came time to predict the stick drift, your response switched to optimistic. Before it was neutral, as you were implying the negative feedback was ridiculous since the bad product design was to be expected. Seems your picking and choosing between the two when it fits your argument. I call that, not having a spine.
One thing that limits this for remote play, outside of the house (i.e. at work) is a lack of any ability to run this through a VPN for networks that block ports used for streaming/gaming.
Makes sense. Most CZcams experts including Brownlee overanalyze this. Whether deliberately or out of ignorance is besides the point. Able now to your exact PS5 anywhere? What's the drawback, exactly?
The portal is going to fail because Cloud Streaming is very important for so many people and sadly to say... THIS WILL NOT SUPPORT CLOUD STREAMING AT ALL.
My only issue with the Portal... I can't use the Pulse 3D with them, and have to buy another headset at $50 extra than I paid for the first one, hopefully they can patch it in or something but it sucks to have a headset I got 2 years ago (hasn't been 3 years since it came out) only for it to not work with the rest of the ecosystem? That's some Apple shit only twice as fast.
Is that confirmed? The new ones are coming with similar dongle. The old ones should do same thing. Also worse comes to worst you could just use the 3.5 jack.
There are idiots out there that are still comparing this ACCESSORY to an actual handheld console. They are clearly missing the point. Sony will no doubt bring out another handheld console in the future, likely with a 4K OLED screen. You are so correct in summing up this product and how neat it is in complimenting the other PS5 accessories. People do like to complain about anything and this is their latest target lol. My 8 year old will be having this for Xmas so he can chill with his PS5 games anywhere.
They specifically stated that you can’t use it with cloud streaming and people want to be able to connect their Bluetooth earbuds on the go. There also isn’t a usb spot for a dongle anyways which most headphones use and the PlayStation headphones are $150+ which is too much to buy just for that. Lastly with the wifi requirement, you don’t have to be connected to wifi to play ps5 games like single player games so that’s why it’s a negative for this because most people want to play games on the go that’s not dependent wifi because the connection can make your gameplay laggy too
I think the perspective on connectivity is wrong. So imma try and put this as someone who think about a lot of things. When you buy a console. Most people buy the disk version. Because the games can come cheaper. You can (now) play older versions on the newer console. And you can download the game directly to the console without internet. Though you may need an update for the game. The connectivity isn’t going to be the issue. Now for those who get the digital only version. You’re going to need fast wifi and connectivity. Now as a psp and Nintendo switch owner. The problem is: WHAT IF THERES NO WI-FI? Those who have a digital version can’t play any of their games because they’re all internet based. ( typically like Xbox if you have a series s if you don’t have Wi-Fi no game will be played regardless if it’s a offline game) but having a disk version console allows you to play all your disk games without the worry or no wifi same as a switch and psp. As long as you had the physical game or the game downloaded. You don’t have to worry about connection. But because the ps portal is a connection only thing it will raise hella concern about if it can be taken and used for offline play
I've been a PS5 owner since launch day as well, and this is just a fanboy defense video. 2nd hand embarrassment is real. Save your money. Get a ROG Ally or Legion Go handheld. Install PS Remote Play to play your PS4 or PS5 games anywhere, including cloud games. Use any headphones you already have, including bluetooth.
The ROG Ally is 3.5x more expensive at 700$ and it doesn’t have any Dualsense features. The Portal is perfectly fine for what it is - a dedicated handheld PS5 streaming device for people that just want to play their PS library.
@@theoutsiderjess1869 How the hell is it overpriced if the backbone costs 120$ and doesn’t even have a screen attached (not to mention questionable controller quality and no dualsense features), while the PS Portal costs 200$ and has it all. Also, the backbone looks and feels like shit, just as a side note.
People act like companies need to make something because people want it. If they risk is too high it doesn't matter what people want. People hacked the past Sony handhelds and tanked the game sales, which is how this type of hardware is profitable.
I never said that the PSP was a bad device...I'm just saying a lot of people are hating on a product that they don't even have yet or have even played yet? Like that's wild to me...just saying. And why is it bad to like a product?
People who are complaining about the PS Portal: look at this as the smartwatch of the PS5. It is an extension of the main device. It isn't meant to be a standalone device. It is considered as an accessory hence the price of it being only $200 [though I think it should have been priced at $150 instead but I'm not part of the Sony Entertainment board of directors]. If you want a standalone device to play games without being tethered, there are plenty out there like for example: Steam Deck, ASUS ROG ally, LG legion Go, Ayaneo, etc. Yah people gotta stop complaining and move forward.
ONE THING that I wanna bring up as a concern. Say you're at your in-laws' house in Tennessee and your PS5 is at home on standby mode, and the POWER GOES OUT, your Portal is useless. Period. End of Story.
@@CKidM why would you need it? Are you going to sit in front of your turned off television? Has no Bluetooth. The only reason I would get one is because my children argue over the Playstation but this device doesn’t solve that problem.
The main reason why people are crying about the Portal not having Bluetooth is because alot of these individuals are looking to jailbreak/hack it when it releases. With it not having built-in Bluetooth that means it even more dependent on its connection to the ps5 than they want.
The lack of Bluetooth is a little crazy. I know you should've expected to use Bluetooth, but as a companion to be used outside of your ps5 setup Bluetooth does make sense, especially since they are selling you a solution to a problem they created. This device is almost similar to the wi u, because of its use case. Not a 1 to 1 comparison, but it's just seems like a wasted opportunity. They could have made one of the best handheld systems while still keeping some of their restrictions. It does have a use case, but that use case could have been expanded, increasing sales in terms of the device, digital and/or physical games, and DLCs.
I believe Playstation has more coming...this is just the beginning and they are sitting back listening...I bet what most want which is a Vita 2 is coming.
@@jojobodthat's facts. They're the ones that ran the vita out to begin with, doubt they'll bring it back when they weren't supporting it to begin with.
@@CKidM I sincerely doubt that a Vita 2 is in the works. And if I am being honest Sony shouldn't make a Vita 2 at all. I think most people are suffering from nostalgia glasses when it comes to the Vita because they act like third party devs were lining up to make dedicated handheld games for it. Hell people are acting like third party devs are lining up to make handheld games period. The Switch is the best selling handheld system worldwide currently and has close to non existent third party support. Handheld console systems live and die by first party support and unless people are expecting Sony to dedicate whole development studios (they are not by the way) to making dedicated handheld games, a Vita 2 would be dead in the water because it would literally have no games. Also, people are saying that a Vita 2 would just play the PS4 and PS5 games that people already own....bruh stop! I don't know if any of these people checked the price of a Steam Deck or Asus ROG Ally but these systems play current games below current console level at 30fps in most cases and are just as expensive as or more expensive than a PS5 home console. So its possible that if a Vita 2 were to come to market not only would it be more expensive than a console but in all likelihood it would play games worst than the console. This is why a remote play device is perfect for the handheld market as opposed to a dedicated device. It leverages the power of your PS5 to run the game so that you don't have to buy a more expensive device to do it natively and because the game is run from your PS5 it eliminates the need to buy dedicated handheld games specifically for a potential Vita 2 product. I think the whole Vita 2 hope is an example of people asking for something that they don't really want because they think that a Vita 2 type device would come out at the Vita 2011 price of 249.99. In all actuality a Vita 2 type device would easily run about 400.00 - 600.00 in 2023 and it still wouldn't have Bluetooth support. For 200.00 bucks the portal is perfect for most people who really just want a device to kick around the house with or to use in a hotel room or something....aint nobody actually planning on using a dedicated handheld system outside in the wild.....Switch is killing it in sales and you don't ever see an adult carrying one, which tells me that most people are going to be using this handheld somewhere where there is ample WiFi.
@CKidM that does make perfect sense. I think they can disrupt the handheld market selling a compelling device that can cost a grip. I do think the portal has a customer base, just not as big as they could have with a different device. I think selling you a digital game for the PS5 with an additional (cheaper) DLC for the game on the portal would kill. It doesn't have to be backward compatible beyond the PS4, and it would not just make money. It would make all the money!!! Green's for the money and gold for the honey, in my Don Bishop voice.
The only thing about the digital part is the people with the disc versions can go get the limited edition GameStop, collectors edition or things of that nature
7:53 I was following you till this point bro, but this is just flat out wrong. People are looking for the next psp, not a second screen for their ps5. This is the main complaint I’ve seen from even die hard PlayStation fans. The market of handhelds is getting very competitive right now with devices like the steam deck being released almost quarterly and they are only getting better. For the price of a PS5 and a portal you could go get something like a mid tier ROG ally that can run steam games and even run Xbox game pass on the go. PlayStation miss the mark with this one. Keep up the vids tho man.
I agree with that...but I think you're missing the point of this...this handheld is not aimed towards PC like people who want to get the ROG Ally or Steamdeck. This is for those casual gamers who doesn't want that PC like experience of having to download all this extra PC like software. This is for the person who just wants to pick up their handheld and connect and play on the go. It's like I said in the video...PS is like Apple in the gaming space. People who are console gamers in the first place are not PC gamers. Those other devices are catered towards PC gamers and not console gamers. There is a big difference between the two types of people. And when you look at all of these other handheld gaming devices (minus the Nintendo Switch) it's all catered towards PC people and not the console gamer who don't want all of that. And keep in mind if they came out with a separate device like that people would complain about having to buy the games over again, because trust it would be treated separately. But if you read through the comments of my last video there are a lot of people who are preordering this device...remember what people said about the AirPods....and look how that turned out. Same with this.
The steam deck and rog ally to me they are in a different category all together, they are basically PC, why would Sony cannibalize the sales of the PlayStation, not even Xbox is doing it, they have the G cloud. If you are asking for this kind of device there is not point then for Sony to be making the PlayStation anymore.
PlayStation isn't trying to release a dedicated handheld device anytime soon. The last time they did it didn't sell that well despite how great the hardware was, especially with the increased competition a dedicated handheld isn't the best move right now. What they did was smart, a PS5 accessory that requires little to no resources as compared to a dedicated device that requires studios making watered down versions of their games and that requires a decent handheld ownership base to make it worthwhile. For $200 it's a cheap way from them to really dedicate themselves to streaming and perhaps it could lead to a future hybrid handheld device that could stream current games and offline play older console games (just a theory).
Its really not that competitive tbh. Nintendo has a complete monopoly on the handheld market. Notice how people always going like "steam deck is so good" and steam deck is this and that, yet by the end of this year it'll only have sold 3 million units by then. And rog ally has only sold 500k. Deck and rog ally are niche devices just like the portal. Nintendo isn't competing with anyone. Rog and Deck are great built devices no denying that, but I wouldn't call the handheld market "competitive."
For me, this is Sony's attempt at copying the functions of the Switch and I'm definitely here for that. I'm always on my Switch, but it's rarely used docked on the TV even at home. Being able to play my PS5 sat on the couch without people complaining they want to watch TV is massive selling point for me. My only concern is how good it will stream. I found the remote play app on android and PC to be quite bad with constant graphic drops and lag. I'm assuming Sony will have done a better job with this considering it is a dedicated streaming device for the PS5, but there is still that concern. Definitely going to wait for actual reviews before purchasing this.
The problem with internet will be with cable and dsl internet service playing outside their home. Most plans only have 10mbps of upload or less. Very high download, but only 10mbps upload. Fiber is symmetrical, so upload is as fast as download.
Finally someone understanding what ps portal was made for and what is it, sick of listening and seeing comments on why sony didn’t make a new psp and that the ps portal is something already possible with the remote play. Even with optic fiber, i had always lag while playing on remote play and backbone or other controllers + iphone is not a good combination, too tiny screen and incomfortable experience. I’ve ordered as soon as i saw the news
It being ‘null and void’ should also mean it should be cheaper. Honestly it’s a lot to say it’s the same as a PlayStation, but isn’t actually a PlayStation cause you ALSO need to have one
The only concern I have is exactly *how well* would the Playstation Portal run on an internet speed of 5Mbps vs 15Mbps. Depending on how well it runs (especially under bad Wi-Fi), I'm willing to pay $200 for this. Hoping you'll test that out when it releases? Other than that, the Portal definitely has my interest! Just need to know if it's worth spending that much money
It'll run the same way any console runs om 5 mbps..which isn't good that's why you would need better connection then that ...if you're some where where u can't get over 5 mbps then u shouldn't be gaming because that's isn't the ideal way to play imo
@@abemickeygaming7742 Well with how much they talk about this being specifically designed to work with Remote Play, I would hope that the connection would be better than what we're used to right now with the app Either way, I'm gonna wait because I'm not spending $200 on a device if it isn't working properly
Serious question... have you guys ever actually used the phone app? Because with how much y'all bring it up, you clearly don't realize how terrible it runs on a phone, let alone if you get calls or messages during a game If the Portal doesn't work properly, I'm not buying it. If it does, then maybe because there's an actual use for it
12:52 YES! It's meant to KEEP PS5 players in the ecosystem and not go looking at Steam Deck or Switch too hard. Anyone who thinks this is supposed to be a DIRECT competition to Switch/Steam Deck etc are losing the thread. It's basically a big playstation customer FOMO shield
Since you have a ps5 already. I can save you 200 dollars. Just carry your controller with you, connect the controller to your phone. Play your games on your phone using remote play.
Most people only have one phone and use it for work and education it's dumb to play games on it of that ability just for it to die when it's important work related or education
Waste of phone battery, the connectivity won’t be the same either. More latency playing remote play on the phone. Just let the people who want to buy it, buy it without criticism.
Great work! Just some feedback on the meter at the top, I’d suggest reversing it so the meter goes up instead of going down. As a gamer, a meter going down is usually a bad sign, so it seems like you’re losing HP for each points you make.
The real question everyone should be making is.... Can you beat PATAPON using the portal? Forget about beating it... can you beat a single hunt without losing fever?
This is a must buy for me if i can play it while I'm out with little to no lag. Also would be cool if you can use this as a second screen/account while playing games that only allow online co-op making it possible for 2 people locally to play online from the same console
@@error.418I got no lag on my phone at all… maybe your internet is not that good??? In that case if the device can solve that issue it would be somehow useful.
Real talk man there is a rhyme and reason why these products are released and agreed simplicity is the key. The price point is fair $200 for a pro controller on the Xbox and you get a dual sense controller with screen for $200 I’m down thanks first real fair video out there I’ve seen 💯
My guy, both products are rip offs. You know what else you can buy for 200 dollars? You can get an Odin lite and it can play PS1, PSP, N64, Dreamcast, Super Nintendo, etc. Oh, and it can also do remote play. 🤡

@@CKidM that's exactly my point that I'm trying to make. Other people wanna be mad that they dont have a HDD to save games on. This comment was for people salty about needing to STREAM things with this product. I Left it at the point in the video where he was talking about people being salty.
"The PS5 itself has really bad Bluetooth implementation, so this $200 HANDHELD is totally cool not having Bluetooth. It's simple....just shovel out another $200 for earbuds"
It’s so refreshing to hear a positive review of the PS Portal, I have pre ordered and find it will be a perfect fit for me. It may not be for everyone and I understand that but why bash the system if it’s not what you want
Because for the price alone it could've been so much more then just a glorified Wii u gamepad. It's Sony people have wanted a new portable game system for ages if they wanted you to be able to steam ps5 games without a TV atleast make the device that can play the games do something different then STREAM and actually give it some interesting functionality. It's 250$ that's def not nothing
I do agree I wish it had Bluetooth and the ability to stream as a stand alone device But for 200 bucks to be able to play my games through Wi/Fi is going to be nice
I don't question your sincerest, but there is a lot of CAPE'N going on in this video. As a PS5 owner, it shouldn't matter if you own a PS5. All gamers have the right to critique this device based on knowledge of the industry and what is or isn't an asset.. the Portal is missing many simple features to call an asset.. the value is not there
Facts Ckid! Wifi technologies has got better than the years of the PS3, PS4, and the Vita. The PS5 and the Playstation Portal will have the latest standards for Wifi better coverage and strong connection Wifi 6. People don't understand that if we get a dedicated handheld. It will make game development even longer because they will have to make sure it runs on the PS5 and handheld perfectly at the same time. They not going to release it on the PS5 first and then the handheld. It wouldn't make sense
That’s what I been trying to tell people we are 3 years in the ps5 life cycle it’s to late for them to make a dedicated handheld that can play offline because developers are gonna support it it would’ve had the same issue that the vita did
@richiewilson2986 if the Playstation Portal is successful. I can see Playstation 6 being hybrid like the Nintendo Switch where Playstation won't need to make software for two different system it will be just one. When the PS6 comes out like in the year 2028, the PS5's GPU, CPU, I/O technology will be able to be built in a compact device without overheating
@CKidM yup! Sony always forward thinking! Look at the PS5 getting all these updates to make the PS5 even greater than it did at launch. 1440p, VRR, Dolby Atmos, Discord, PSVR2 and soon 8TB ssd will be possible.
I picked mine up yesterday, I love it. Maybe I'm just a fanboy, but the thing feels really well made and runs every game great. I have good internet, so that may make a difference. I played God of War and 2K24 and didn't have any problems. It's funny everyone was bad mouthing the Portal, but it's sold out everywhere. I believe its a good answer for those who travel and take their PS5 with them. Also, if you wanna watch TV and play a game in handheld, it's great. I mean, I can be across the country and play my PS5 on my portal. Yeah, I need wifi, but nowadays you need it for everything. Most games I play on my Steamdeck I need wifi, so what's the difference?
Thank you for making this video and clearing up any doubts i had about the portal . Pretty cool that you can access it from anywhere as long as you have wifi. I’ve stopped downloading games back when they actually have you discounts for not buying a physical copy. I WISH that still applied today because they don’t spend extra money to release the game over the internet. I dunno.. but its definitely a benefit to download games so you don’t have to play one game over and over again lol great video as always mane
So what happens if you are out of town, playing on the portal in a hotel. The wifi in your house goes off and doesn’t come back on for a while. Does that mean your ps5 is just sitting there, powered up. That could mess up your ps5
@@CKidM well that would only happen when playing on the portal because it can only be played on through a connection to the PS5. As opposed to the PS vita. Hell yeah brotha preach! I got mine preordered as soon as it became available. I didn't think I'd be doing a lot of remote play lately but I'm glad the PS Portal will be in our hands in a few months. I feel this will succeed.
I like the look and I have all 3 systems Nintendo, Xbox, and Sony. and I am a Sony fanboy but for me the problem is every where you go will not have a good enough wifi to get a good gamming session so that will make it useless if you have a power outage while you are gone and the PS 5 is off you are out of luck. Also if we give in to digtal gaming the big 3 companies will have gamers by the balls. if they go strickly digatal they can charge what ever they want for new game and old games if you look at the psn store some games that are old as hell you can get at gamestop for 20 dollars or under but on sony some are still 45 plus.
It definitely has a lot of potential, but being a first gen, it has those first gen issues, which have been confirmed (for me). No Bluetooth, but has that link (which only is compatible with two Sony products. That's extra money). Also, the remote play is a bit of an issue, still relying on good WiFi from both locations. Better to just allow streaming over the cloud like Stadia, so that I don't need my PS5 on and connecting to WiFi. Doesn't seem too big of an issue, but I like just playing where I am. Less need for great wifi at both ends. LCD with only 1080p? I was accepting 1080p but then not having an OLED screen. This is Sony! Either way, this is a cool device, but I'm going to wait on the updated product. Y'all gonna find me with this in a couple years from now lol
It's not even great wifi to have 5 and 15 mbps is the bare minimum. most places have better wifi speeds then that. I'm a tech that does internet installs and lowest people get is 25 mbps.

not having bluetooth isn’t a problem for me. I have a wireless headset that came with a dual 3.5mm headphone wire. I’ve never even used the bluetooth feature for my ps5, i just connect my headphones directly to my controller
@@Gunzavage I don't think PS5 has Bluetooth for headsets anyway, so I think all of us are connecting to our controllers. It's a matter of convenience for people considering Bluetooth is standard for things now, but they pretty much have their version with the Link
@@maxerinjames I’m pretty sure a lot of people still use wireless headphones for their ps5. most wireless headphones that cost more than $100 come with the usb bluetooth adapter, you just connect that to your ps5 and that’s technically using bluetooth for your ps5 with an added accessory. regardless idc, bluetooth has never been a huge thing for me, I still use wired skull candy earbuds for my iphone.
Most gamers I know if they aren’t on a budget are buying wireless Headphones, not wired. The avg gamer (NOT pro gamer, because this isn’t meant/designed for competitions) care for convenience over the best performance through a wire. So the point of wire is the best, is invalid in itself when the masses do not care about the feature. Especially on a mobile device that’s supposed to be a convenient solution. Like seriously, how many ppl you know still have wired headphones that aren’t in content creation? Like the headphone jack doesn’t even exist on most mobile devices anymore. We’re beyond the wire now. I rather them have sold us a USB-C to USB dongle separately than just not have Bluetooth at all🤦🏽♂️
I pre-ordered mine. I never watched your channel before but I came to find out more about it. Because I do see a lot of possibilities of the ps portal being a huge gaming difference with the ps5. Kind of reminds me of the PS Vita. However my biggest concern regarding the ps portal is the battery. I feel the battery will be a big issue. By the way amazing video I will check out some of your other content and subscribe. This is a very informative video. I liked it.
@ckid did you here about the sonu ui that they put in. In the future it might be able to cross platform even which is crazy. And people don't take into account Sony is also trying to get as many consoles into homes as possible. Especially before they drop their new and improved cloud services which I heard might be patched into portal down the road. Which when that happens obviously consoles will slow down after that. When you can stream your favorite PS5 games

I like your vibe bud. I like how you just are accepting whatever PS is throwing at us. Honestly it’s basically a sophisticated remote play. I’m actually really happy about that myself because I like the Dualsense features being portable rather than only while I’m playing the PS5 at home. That being said, why in the world would anyone want the digital version. First of all, you are removing an ENTIRE medium of games. I have a bunch of PS4 games on disc that I still play. Why would I want a backwards compatible console if I wasn’t going to use it to its full potential? You do you man, but I think getting the digital version is absolutely not the way at all because you remove so much ability to play any disc games whether it’s PS4 or PS5. What if you have a friend that has a game on disc you wanna play for a bit to know if you wanna buy it, but you don’t wanna take up their console for 3 hours playing through, basically, a demo? The reason why they have you install it is because these games are so big they can’t even fit on a disc anymore. It also removes that disc drive issue that the 2 and 3 had because you’re not CONSTANTLY running the disc so the dis drive doesn’t get burned out as easy. You only run the disc when installing the game, and when you run the game simply to tell the console you actually do own it. Thereby minimizing the strain on your drive. That being said, I do like everything you said here, that but just threw me off 🤣 Always buy disc consoles, it’s the better way to go, at least IMO. There are plenty of other examples than the ones I just gave but I’ve already rambled too much as it is 😅
I won't abandon my over 300 physical ps4 games on my ps5 because of a pathetic remote play device. I won't buy a digital ps5 even if it cost 200 dollars. Needless to say, I won't be buying this nonsense either.
Full send disagree about BT, super fail. If they used BT 5.2 or 5.3 latency would be no issue. This was not a positive, they are trying to develop an apple like proprietary that they can charge premiums for, thus creating a closed system, not a win, not a win at all, you are fully missing it. Honestly a tablet/phone with a backbone or controller, is just as good. Sure the portal is sexy but its nothing revolutionary and what should be pointed out more, is the narrowing we are seeing for Sony.
@@CKidM disagree very few do, apple being the worst. I'm in I.T. and the movement by most are open to open source. In fact very few now are doing what Sony is doing.

This baseless device shouldn't require the internet to play ps5 games. That proprietary connection should be totally offline especially when you're very close to the ps5 (within the same building) You should only require online when you're in another location entirely. I'll save my 200 and put it towards a Company that knows what it's doing (Super Nintendo Switch)
Trust me its going to be a game changer if Sony down the line makes it into a second screen, imagine seeing the map and other useful content in game while playing distraction free on the big screen.
Why the heck would you preorder something without checking to make sure that it actually works better? You don't have any proof and you're spending 200 dollars on what is essentially a leap of faith. What are you gonna do if it's just a stripped down Android with a ps5 remote attached to it? Can you even get a refund at that point?

Sony is still behind on some of their accessories, the fact that we keep buying their accessories keeps Sony giving us less for more. As someone who games on all consoles I can tell you that on my series X my headset can turn my console on and I have no dongle hanging on my console, ps5 headset sounds great but I wish the dongle was not needed.
Nice video explaination bro, keep up the great work, and the PlayStation Portal is going to be a crazy device to travel with, I can’t wait to test it and compare it against the backbone also, and yeah that will suck if it does come with that stick drift but can’t wait to see, but glad I got a digital PS5 cause I sure was tired of buying disc especially if you want to play a game you gotta look through all your case package to swap out to play the game lol 😂 but nice video this Portal will be a high selling point God bless
I've been rocking with PlayStation since the very beginning back in the late '90s. I bought a PS5 in September 2020 when pre-orders for the console went live at 3rd party retailers before they were supposed to. Some of the concerns that you brought up that you are saying that people are just hating on are legitimate concerns. It's not to say that some people are just hating on it because they're an Xbox fanboy. Those people do exist but it doesn't make the same criticisms coming from people who are actually PlayStation owners any less legitimate. The PlayStation Portal not having Bluetooth capability is non-existent not because the PlayStation 5 doesn't have it already but because they're trying to charge consumers extra money by buying other products. I understand Sony is a business and they have to make money but the way they do it is scummy. Instead of putting Bluetooth on a device that they know would be beneficial to consumers who might want to use their own earbuds and headphones to play their games on the portal. They want to charge us an extra $200 for a pair of earbuds that probably will only last 5 hours on a single charge. I'm sorry but no thanks and that is a very legitimate concern. Also another main legitimate concern when it comes to the PlayStation portal it connectivity while playing games online. Right now playing multiplayer titles on remote play outside of your home and home network is causing quite a bit of input lag from controller to device. In addition to that my connection using either my 5G internet for my phone or using my hotspot from my phone to my tablet to play multiplayer titles from my PS5 is not stable. If I buy this product how do I know whether or not I can play multiplayer titles and have a stable connection as well as minimal input lag? Until all of those questions are answered I will not be purchasing the portal and as far as the criticisms are concerned they are legitimate.
Yeah thanks for this vid and the clarification. Although I do wish the PS portal was gonna be it's own ecosystem, the fact that I can jump online and play anywhere is cool
If it needs Wi-Fi, then it needs it, take a phone for ex, it needs Wi-Fi to access certain things, CZcams, insta, games, app store or playstore, same thing unless PS can make 5G accessible
You have made my mind up for me. I’ve just pre ordered it thanks to your videos and you clearing up all the questions and doubts. Just wish I had the digital PS5 rather than the disc now 😂 Thank you though Subscribed and liked also. 100k soon hopefully, it’s very well deserved
For the WiFi connection, I’m in the Navy and I wish I could play something like this on the ship this without internet connection. That’s the only thing I would have a problem with.
sorry if it’s a silly question …can i play a stream game (from ps premium) or does it have to be downloaded onto the ps5 first ? But some games are stream only
I have a PS5, XBOX, PC, Switch, Steam Deck and I get it that PS5 when it comes to support I had to get my headphones with a USB dongle and works fine..... but for a handheld device I don't want a Dongle on my PSP sorry no excuse for no bluetooth sorry just isn't. For my PS5 I don't care bc the console sits there by my TV and the PSP will be portable so not having bluetooth is kind of rediculous!
This thing is just trash. It will also likely confuse a lot of parents when purchasing, thinking their kids are getting a game system but it’s just essentially a streaming device
Surely PlayStation portal is dead on arrival? Who wants a $200 handheld that can't play games on its own or cloud stream them? You're tied to your home wifi and local PS5 library. It's a baffling product.
It basically the switch in reverse. A switch is a handheld that has base accessory to connect to a tv to get better performace. playstation is a base that now has a handheld accessory to make it mobile. Now your going say that the switch is more accessible and this is true, but tradeoff it nowhere near as powerful. Also glad they didn't go with vita we don't need them to split development more we already have some split because of VR. The only wish I have is that they give it storage space to either A have a list of small not online games that already on device or B A game from your library for those times where you can not get a network connection like on a Plane or during power outage.
My main issues on this portal is 1) Stick drift 2) why set on the white color…. 3) can I have my ps5 on at home be at someone else house on wifi and be able to play???

This feels like a quick money play for Sony. Next year it will be a new and improved version with the functionality everyone was asking for.
I definitely see this happening, just like Apple doing a minor upgrade to their phones. They definitely know what they are doing
The play is to get this into many households so they can really push what they want to push out...and then at that point everyone will come running. And I'll be sitting back saying I told you so...haha

My only issue with the Portal...
It is considered as an accessory hence the price of it being only $200 [though I think it should have been priced at $150 instead but I'm not part of the Sony Entertainment board of directors].
@@CKidM
I sincerely doubt that a Vita 2 is in the works.
@@corey_masseythat is true my nephew got a switch only use it at home with wifi
@@cookingsauce8274 DAMN rog ally sold 500k units in what 3 months? That’s better than I expected.
The confusion I see people have is this: THIS IS NOT A SYSTEM, THIS IS A REMOTE PLAY ACCESSORY

Just use your phone for remote play. Or if you have a tablet use that. Don't condone sonys anticonsumer bad ideas
Serious question... have you guys ever actually used the phone app? Because with how much y'all bring it up, you clearly don't realize how terrible it runs on a phone, let alone if you get calls or messages during a game
If the Portal doesn't work properly, I'm not buying it. If it does, then maybe because there's an actual use for it
@nerdgamer2749 ps play? It works like butter on my phone, and I have used it several times before the backbone even came out.

"allow online co-op" it won't
You can do that with your phone easily already.
"if i can play it while I'm out with little to no lag" you can't

Real talk man there is a rhyme and reason why these products are released and agreed simplicity is the key. The price point is fair $200 for a pro controller on the Xbox and you get a dual sense controller with screen for $200 I’m down thanks first real fair video out there I’ve seen 💯
💯
My guy, both products are rip offs.
You know what else you can buy for 200 dollars? You can get an Odin lite and it can play PS1, PSP, N64, Dreamcast, Super Nintendo, etc. Oh, and it can also do remote play. 🤡

200 dollars for earbuds same as the portal..FU..just remote play a controller to your phone there saved you 200..actually saved you 400 😂
@@papaglock58 Nah, I don't want to play on my phone, batteries drain out and I use for phone calls, text, surf, everything else and I don't want to carry a controller either. already pre ordered, could care less about the hate it’s getting. people now a days find a way to hate on everything and anything. no one can ever be satisfied, so ignore other peoples opinions.

That's the only concern anyone should have...everything else people saying about it is pure hate for the PS
It's a STREAMING DEVICE for GAMES while you're on the GO. STREAMING instantly means INTERNET required.
Everything you watch is streaming....including this CZcams video...you streamed this from CZcams servers which required Internet...so what's the difference.
@@CKidM that's exactly my point that I'm trying to make. Other people wanna be mad that they dont have a HDD to save games on. This comment was for people salty about needing to STREAM things with this product. I Left it at the point in the video where he was talking about people being salty.
I got the disc edition at launch for the DVD player. I agree, gaming digitally is the way to go.

It also sets a bad president for future Sony handhelds imo
EXACTLY...well said my brotha!
Yep same...there is definitely something up Sony's sleeve with this device...we as people just don't have the full picture yet.
I bought a backbone for full price maybe 3 weeks before the portal was announced and I've been on the fence about returning the backbone and pre-ordering the portal. After wtaching your video Ive decided im going to return it and pop in an order for the portal .
Truth Gamer never cry on Bluetooth since we plug our headphone in LOL

I’m curious to know if it’ll be able to play my games off my external hard drive that I have hooked up to my PS5.
The only reason i have come to the video

So what happens if you are out of town, playing on the portal in a hotel. The wifi in your house goes off and doesn’t come back on for a while. Does that mean your ps5 is just sitting there, powered up. That could mess up your ps5
Okay and that would be the same for any console or system.
@@CKidM well that would only happen when playing on the portal because it can only be played on through a connection to the PS5. As opposed to the PS vita. The portal is basically just an extension of the ps5. I personally never leave my console on overnight due to damages etc. if I got the portal, I would be potentially putting my ps5 at risk every time I left the house for multiple days
@@rossalexanderbeaumont1280not just the portal where I live there be blackouts so my power go out and Bluetooth and wifi is both useless without electricity and power
@@streetlive05 I was trying to play at a hotel on my phone and couldn't connect. Had to play a game on Stadia, which ran well. Wish they just did that. Maybe next time they will 🤔
not having bluetooth isn’t a problem for me.
Most gamers I know if they aren’t on a budget are buying wireless
Headphones, not wired.
@ckid did you here about the sonu ui that they put in. In the future it might be able to cross platform even which is crazy. W...let's go!
The form factor is just off. Lack of Bluetooth on a *portable* device is an issue; on my PS5 I can plug in a USB dongle.
Every company has there own ecosystem so whats wrong with them having one?
@@CKidM disagree very few do, apple being the worst. I'm in I.T. and the movement by most are open to open source. In fact very few now are doing what Sony is doing.

This baseless device shouldn't require the internet to play ps5 games. That proprietary connection should be totally offline especially when you're very close to the ps5 (within the same building)
You should only require online when you're in another location entirely. I'll save my 200 and put it towards a Company that knows what it's doing (Super Nintendo Switch)
Trust me its going to be a game changer if Sony down the line makes it into a second screen, imagine seeing the map and other useful content in game while playing distraction free on the big screen.

Good points. My exact thoughts on the portal. It has to be better than remote play on my phone. I pre ordered it as soon as it was available to do so.
Why the heck would you preorder something without checking to make sure that it actually works better? You don't have any proof and you're spending 200 dollars on what is essentially a leap of faith.
For sure
If it needs Wi-Fi, then it needs it, take a phone for ex, it needs Wi-Fi to access certain things, CZcams, insta, games, app store or playstore, same thing unless PS can make 5G accessible
Since it’s the digital games you have. No need to buy them again. Also no losing any physical media. The rest I’ll see when I get it.
You have made my mind up for me. I’ve just pre ordered it thanks to your videos and you clearing up all the questions and doubts. Just wish I had the digital PS5 rather than the disc now 😂

But some games are stream only
No, it can't do that
Finally. A common sense viewpoint. The PlayStation Portal is what it is
I have a PS5, XBOX, PC, Switch, Steam Deck and I get it that PS5 when it comes to support I had to get my headphones with a USB dongle and works fine..... but for a handheld device I don't want a Dongle on my PSP sorry no excuse for no bluetooth sorry just isn't. For my PS5 I don't care bc the console sits there by my TV and the PSP will be portable so not having bluetooth is kind of rediculous!
I don't have PC but I have every other option you listed, since you have a Steam Deck you don't need this junk just like me.
We shall see...watch Xbox jump on board.
I own a PS5. Only. But the dual sense controller has Bluetooth and doesn't need a dongle.
My main issues on this portal is
1) Stick drift
2) why set on the white color….
3) can I have my ps5 on at home be at someone else house on wifi and be able to play???
That's the thing though why would you wanna have your PS5 turned on while you're not there? Everyone's different but holy shit I'd be freaking out.
