    If you're watching this, please buy the modifry replacement retention straps if they are blown out, which they are in the video. If you dont replace them your soft top will rip at the top again. These guys did replace them. Do not skip out on the straps, they do not come with the soft top and the modifry straps are much better, thicker and more rugged.
    The purpose of the straps are to properly align the top-most soft top extension bar with it's intended position. If you take off the soft top and the bar can rotate all the way forward toward the front of the car... they are no good and need to be replaced. Good proper straps should pull the bar towards the rear of the car with tension and it should not have any slack in it or allow the bar to rotate forward. Another good way to know if they're blown out is if you're having to manually adjust the top most extension yourself after raising the top, the straps are meant to align the top extension itself so you dont have to. Replace them! They're 20 bucks or you will be replacing your 450 dollar soft top again in a couple years. I know because I had an aftermarket soft top on my s2k when I bought it and it had holes in it due to the previous owner being lazy or ignorant and not replacing the straps, which I believed to be from the factory 19 years ago... not good! Which means my car has had 3 new tops in its lifetime lmao.
    Head my advice. Get the straps!

      Well guys. Finally got the top on. It is definitely not a quick job nor an easy one. Tried to do on my own, but in the end my father had to help for some parts you need 2 people.

    • @bohemod
      @bohemod Před 8 lety +2

      Here a few tips after doing this myself:
      1- Remove the seats, Sounds silly but will really help moving around in the car. They are just 4 bolts and one cable and your done.
      2- Not sure if this depends on the top you buy, but when you have to remove the cable that is thread through the top (on my car both sides) I found the best way to do it is removing it from the top, removing the rivet, and then passing it through the hood with the plate on it, in my case it fits through the hood rail.
      3- Pay attention to the bars in the centre, its easy to mix them up and put the top on the wrong bar, and then you have to start all over again.
      4- Definitely the hardest part is getting the bottom screw in the seal back on (the one closest to the top frame mechanism). It is a nightmare, and patience is your only ally.
      I hope these few tips help out anyone that's willing to do it at home. All you need is time, a good friend ant patience. Took me practically on my own 1 day and a half.
      Take care and drive safe!

    Mine has little tears everywhere, I've been nursing them and patching them with black silicone, thread and fishing line...now big tear...the front tore and flew back when I was driving. Dragola ...man....
    so mine's 2005 S2000, Do you think the video at aok and others on CZcams, would be the same install as my 2005? they're working on a 2001...

    I'm having a hard time getting my top to close after installing a new top. I've heard that when you're in a colder climate that it can take some time to stretch, but I'm a little less than an inch from being able to close and I just can't get it. I tried loosening the bolts on the rain rail a bit, but no luck. My next stop is to try some ratchet straps, but I've spent so much time on this job over the last couple of weeks that I'm about to just burn my S2K to the ground and call it a day :) Any feedback from anybody here? Thanks~
