  • Without further ado here is the insane 5-alarm fire yall have been waiting for. Upon my arrival, I wasn't too impressed. I saw heavy smoke and assumed I either missed the flames or the flames were on the other side. I'm glad I brought my tripod and so I could keep my hands in my pockets for the most part. The flames started to escalate. Firefighters were ordered off the roof to conduct an exterior attack. They scrambled down the ladders. I was worried the roof might collapse. Not another Sunnyside fire for the sake of the members. The flames escalated into something I rarely get to be so close to. It was almost unbelievable. Then I ran out of SD card space on my camcorder and switched to iPhone X. Still, not a bad video. Remind me to have a phone mount on my camcorder and extra SD cards for situations such as this. Either way, I managed to get a significant amount of flames and was the first press video journalist on the scene. Shoutout to photogs Vic, Seth, & Lloyd also on scene dealing with extreme temperatures. Thanks for the call, Lloyd! Special thanks to Spectrum News NY1 for making this worthwhile by airing this dramatic footage.

    Not to many things that scare me but seeing a couple firefighters on a roof as the fire ihas vented itself and looks like the sun is rising out of it, that just gives me chills.

    This structure definitely had a fire load! Only solution is surround and drown! Allen P Retired Firefighter (Capt)! Great job NYFD!

    I have seen this fire several times and each time I find it captivating watching FDNY in a literal fire fight during brutal freezing windy wet (icing) conditions!

    17 minutes in I noticed the misters at the end of the ladder to help keep them a bit cooler !

    Great video. And compliments on the watermark; it's there, but less 'in your face'. Be safe.

    Something you don't see very often. A chief at the top of an aerial ladder.

    Fire Fighters and EMS and Police should be making more money than pansy ball players.

      What ball players do is actually fairly difficult compared to actors. Those are the real pansys who dont deserve what they get in pay. But I do agree that the pay of ball players is way overboard too.

    It's difficult to hit "like" for a 5 alarm fire.

    I've fought a couple of sub-freezing fires such as this. Standing by the exhaust on the engine just to get some warmth.

    Firefighters, please when command orders evacuation of building and roof, please do it that instant. I know you want to do the best job you can but there is nothing in a building worth you being injured or killed. The building and content can be replaced and you can't. Sure the fire department can get another firefighter but your loved ones, friends, and family can not replace you. Keep safe and out of harms way.

    A question. I see a lot of firefighters standing around, my question is you have men working the fire, and I assume some waiting to relieve them. how or what decides how many are on the scene? I assume that weather conditions play into manpower numbers as well.

      @@johndoe-zk1yu By stating you know nothing about it is a good start to learn. I will caution you that CZcams is filled with armchair chiefs and know it all wannabees. If you want to learn just be careful who you listen to. Fire fighting involves a number of skills from structural engineering to stationary engineering (Engineering science involving pressure.) From Physics to Chemistry there are chemicals that react violently with water. firefighting attack involves a coordinated fire attack and the firefighters actions are assigned and governed by one person. The Incident commander is that person and his decisions are governed by the information passed along to him. This is why it is critical that the flow of information be clear, concise, and accurate. A good example of an armchair chief is Flaming Stag with his bash and dash. FDNY is one of the best.

      @retiredarthritic2083 Před 5 lety

      Here are some pretty bad tactics as well. czcams.com/video/T7M15StdBGs/video.html Just cause your from oz doesn't mean you are entitled to make judgments about the tactics used on a fire ground half way around the world from you. There are so many issues that CZcams videos do not and can not convey from the C.P.O.V. or through the monologue or in the titular description. So as a firefighter I am pretty sure you know where I am coming from. There are enough Monday morning quarterbacks saying oh they should have done it this way and oh I could have had that fire out in seconds creating a serious problem on social media. The last thing anyone needs is to have one of the firefighter brethren adding to the problem.
