You are recognizing only his R & B and Gospel elements, but not hearing the huge country influence in his music. (Probably because you don’t recognize the old country from the time Elvis was growing up.) You are are overlooking that aspect. Interesting comment from someone regarding Sinatra when Elvis was on his TV show in 1960 -- they sang "Witchcraft" & the comment was Sinatra was pitch perfect (he was), he was louder than Elvis (he was), & he was flat (ABSOLUTELY); & there lies one of the many reasons for what made Elvis so extraordinary -- the EMOTION that came from his soul & his gut -- something Sinatra didn't have. But then, that's how it was back then -- good voices but performing almost like they had a shot of sedation.
