    Oh man the "I'm built different" mentality hits home. I would tell everybody this and went years with an unrelenting passion for software development until that dreaded day came where I woke up and felt completely dispassionate about everything. Burn out is brutal.

      it comes for everyone eventually. Every flame runs out of fuel sooner or later. Whenever I feel it creeping up on me and I start to feel myself dragging myself to the work, or getting slower at getting going, I pump the brakes a wee bit.
      Like, barring illness or personal tragedy, I'm gonna be doing this for another 40 years most likely. Who's rush am I in? Close the macbook a few hours early, get up, and don't look at another screen for the rest of the day. Or if you can't do that, play a bloody videogame. Im glad he mentioned that, I love video games, its a convenient way to escape for a couple of hours and turn off essentially hitting "pause" on life.

      @@PeterRychlik Yes that's great advice. It's wonderful to get that adrenaline rush back when you work on something particularly compelling but the dopamine high is certainly more balanced and controlled these days, bar the odd weekend with no sleep reinventing the wheel.

    Hi Brad!
    So glad you mentioned the try to listen to music without words thing! I thought I was a weirdo because of that. So many of my friends listen to podcasts all day along, where people are talking somewhat aimlessly for hours on end. Like, and they do 3D modelling and animation, like really complex, high-focus stuff!
    The moment there's words or even lyrics in the background, it pulls me right out. The exception is maybe some trap music with some vocal samples strewn throughout, but those are often not verbal or meaningful enough, and more of a rhythmic device anyway.
    Sometimes it adds that extra edge and I can stay in a high-energy, high-focus state for a few hours.
    Other times, when I am problem solving, I hit the pause button on my mix or stream or whatever and its just dead silence.
    Its the best! This makes it challenging to consume content like this for me, but I found your channel because I really wanted to learn more about Designjoy! Thank you for that!

    Only concern is holidays. How do you communicate this to the client? What about their current subscription?

    • @CreativeCrewCommunity
      @CreativeCrewCommunity  Před 6 měsíci

      You can just notify them that you are going on holiday and they have the option to receive a credit towards their subscription for the unused time, or, if you have another designer on the team, offer to reassign a new designer to the project temporarily.

      Thx for the feedback. We had a terrible experience with the recording software we used to capture the interview. And we did actually stop and restart a couple times. Needless to say I won’t be using that tool anymore, but I still needed to publish this interview as Brett shares some awesome insights.

    I hired the web designer this guy used to build his home page. Question is, why would he outsource that?

    • @CreativeCrewCommunity
      @CreativeCrewCommunity  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Maybe he hired someone to build his own site while he worked on client work? I know that sometimes it’s hard to prioritize your own portfolio or company website when you’ve got paid work to fulfill. It’s taken me years to update my website, but I’ve built countless for others since then.

    Why not travel overseas with kids? He makes 1.3M/yr -- if he can't do it, no one can. Like, unless you have very small children, like, under 5 or 6 or perhaps they are neurodiverse and have difficulties travelling (my fiancee's nephew has autism for example) and with overly novel scenery far from home, I get it.
    But shit, my fiancee says to me all the time, that because I work remotely, once I have enough income, we would pick a country and plant ourselves there for two or three months at a time, and take it in slowly, essentially stretching out a two week sightseeing trip over a few months, so I can actually get some work done in-between the sites haha! Maybe do that once or twice a year.
    Hell, save even more money doing that somewhere like Bali. Well, i'm in Canada, so I could save money by basically going anywhere, lol.

    • @CreativeCrewCommunity
      @CreativeCrewCommunity  Před 8 měsíci

      I hear what you're saying! To each their own, right? I love travel, but I also like to challenge myself to see the beauty of my own home through the eyes of a tourist :) Cheers!

    • @PeterRychlik
      @PeterRychlik Před 8 měsíci

      I feel that! Travel can be thoroughly exhausting, tbf. I think something like my above comment is something I'd like to at least sincerely try with my family one time, and if we all agree that it's just too much, maybe we'll stick to exploring our own backyard, so to speak! Lots to see in your hometown, province or state too!@@CreativeCrewCommunity

    Unlimited revisions, 20+ clients, 6 hour work days & no weekends...this guy gives scammer vibes lol im SORRY. No one person is running a million dollar agency BY THEMSELVES with out outsourcing for any help & only works 5 days a week with unlimited revisions. That's not realistic AT ALL. Especially on 3 days turn around.

    • @heyhey5963
      @heyhey5963 Před 10 měsíci +4

      Regardless of hours, you realize all agency models operate on salaried employees doing "unlimited revisions", right?
      Unlimited is original sales pitch stuff anyway. It's on a 2-day queue, so at most that's 15 requests a month.
      This is not new at all, and others have productized before Brett, it's just there was early market positioning on Product Hunt to lead into growth.

    • @CreativeCrewCommunity

      I welcome your thoughts on the matter, but I’ll respectfully disagree. I believe he’s probably working harder than he lets on, but he’s also very fast, and has been doing this for years, so he’s got a good workflow that allows him to produce quickly. It certainly is not possible for everybody!
