I don’t feel any less worse for Starscream. Starscream has clear signs of depression and PTSD in earthspark. When Megatron attacked him in the mines, you can see the decepticon symbol on Megatron instead of the ghost symbol. I have a theory that we see Megatron through Starscream’s eyes in this scene, hence why there’s a Decepticon symbol on Megatron. Starscream is still deeply terrified of the abuse and torture Megatron put him through. Even someone else had to step in to stop Megatron from killing Starscream. (I forget her name :p) Just because Megatron turned over a new leaf doesn’t mean his actions should be forgiven. Even though Starscream is a Decepticon and evil, (deep down I don’t think he is, I think Megatron abused and molded him so much he followed his orders without question) that doesn’t justify Megatron’s abuse. Soundwave and Starscream have more to them than meets the eye. You can see pieces of their story begin to fall into place as the show goes on. Your empathy is cute and your analysis correct. Even in IDW's continuity you can kinda see it. With Starscream making sure Megatron suffers after he turns in and becomes an Autobot and being as wicked and rather evil primarily because of what he endured by Megatron as by that time his mentality had changed to a far more positive one. While Soundwave refuses completely to abandon his Decepticon identity and never truly reconciles with the Autobots or lives in their Cybertron.
Even more ironic when you consider that there have been storylines where Soundeave takes over the Decepticons and achieves peace with the Autobots. Even sacrificing his life a few times to save humanity and the Autobots.
If you think about it sound wave is completely justified in earth spark. Since the very beginning, he trusted megatron with his life, he blindly followed him and did unquestionably wrong things in his name, he threw away his old life, abandoned his brothers and sisters of the cybertronian council, (yes soundwave is a former council member) committed heinous war crimes and cared for megatron like he was family. And then, by joining the Autobots, Megatron not only betrayed soundwave, but he betrayed the very meaning of the decepticon cause, Something that sound wave truly believed in! So it makes sense that soundwaves endless adoration and love towards his friend morph and shifted into pure undying loathing and hatred towards megatron.
But I think it was an interesting change that Megatron is not bad anymore, but at first I thought he was lying, but no, I really want to show the last new season, that is, when he joined Optimus and why

And Megatron knows that is his fault... I hope they explore between Soundwave and Megatron in ES. I would be hurt and even angery if i was soundwave. out of all the different types of Deceptacon‘s, I can never seen Megatron turning sides, unless they have a common enemy even then, if Megatron does not die or get thrown in prison, it would most likely refuse to wear the auto bot symbol on his chest the only Deceptacon‘s that would most likely where the symbol Starscream, the constructor cons.
