I bought my whole costume at the Renaissance Festival!

- Have you ever wondered how much it costs to put together a full outfit at the renaissance festival? It's not cheap lol. I love supporting artisans at my local renfest though, so I thought it would be fun to see if I could put together a themed look only using things I could purchase at the festival! I did cheat on one thing - I used a belt I had from home, but everything else was purchased day of. Let me know how I did, the theme I chose was 'ranger' and I think I did pretty good, especially considering my faire doesn't allow weapons inside the park. I definitely budgeted for this video and would not be dropping this kind of money on a regular basis, but I hope it was helpful for you guys and that you enjoy seeing all the great things available to buy at the renfaire!

Squirrel seemed like such a delight, you can tell that's a person who genuinely really loves what they do for work
I loved Squirrel so much!! they were so sweet and so helpful đ„°
I love squirrel so so much đ
Planning on going this year, canât wait to check out this shop and meet the infamous Squirrel!â€
Next year maybe do a dwarven princess inspired look? It seems like Hobbits and Elves get a lot of Renfaire looks, but the dwarves in their halls of stone need some more appreciation!
Ooh that's a good idea!
@@moth.faerie you are single or married yes or no

Deep approval for supporting the local renfaire and artisans †You hear that algorithm? LOCAL ARTISANS.
All the artisans! My husband and I are finally having our favorite tailor make us bespoke outfits for this year after buying off the rack from him for almost 20 years. Our leather jacks/mugs were made by a leather artist, but sadly heâs no longer with us. I had him make us the jacks with intertwined wedding rings and our wedding date on them as a surprise for my husband 26 years ago. Fortunately another leather artist regularly reseals them for us.
Then thereâs all the other accessories we don, all bought from artists.
Squirrel is so correct about real leather in hot weather. As a biker, my summer jacket is leather and its so much cooler than the textile one I used to use during summer even though the textile had big mesh section and openings.
Love the video and outfit! Personally I preferred some of the other mugs they had, but it's as you said, it's what you like personally and if that was your favourite, then that's the perfect one for you!
Wow, I had no idea! I always thought bikers must be sweltering in their black leather in the July sun! (I donât know any bikers so Iâve never been able to ask!)
Pđąđ
Please do another one of these! Not only was your outfit great, but Iâve never been to a Renaissance fair and now I really want to go! Itâs so fun seeing all of the lovely pieces you can buy!
They're so much fun! If you're able to go it's definitely worth checking out đ
YOU NEED TO GO .
THEYâRE SO FUN
This whole video is just goals. Every time I go to fare I have to remind myself that adult money is only fun if you can pay your bills đ
lmaoooo that is so real, i need to like tattoo that somewhere on my body
As someone who lives nowhere near a ren fest, it's really delightful to come on a shopping trip with you at the Ren Faire!
Aw thank you I'm glad you liked it!
This is the MD renaissance festival, my local Renfaire!! So cool that you were able to go!
Itâs one of my favorites !
Love MD ren faire!!! My home faire is Sterling ren!!
Omg! I new it I didnât get to go :(
I WAS GONNA SAY! I spent a lot of time drinking with friends there lol.
No doxing the performer...that's my job! LOL
please do this again it was so entertaining
Iâm so glad you liked it, I had a ton of fun doing it!
Thank you for this video.
It opened my eyes to the many "creative" businesses that have developed from the world of Renaissance Fairs.
And I love to hear the word "artisans" used. It's so accurate.
Thanks, again.
Thank you for watching, I'm glad you liked it!
My goodness that Alyssa vest is basically 800$ wow thatâs sooo expensive and it looks so gorgeous!!!
Ah, the Maryland renaissance festival! Seeing it again feels like home. I got my whole kit from unicorn clothing, they are very affordable and do plus sizes, even with their corsets
Squirrel's energy gives me life. Thank you for budgeting for this video and taking us along to show off some unique Ren Faire artisan goods â€ïž
Squirrel is my roommate lol it's so fun to see her in a video I love her so much
aah I love Squirrel! I just filmed another one of these so she'll be making another appearance soon đâ€
I could listen to Squirrel talk about leather all day. Such a fountain of information.
Edit: I just realized this is the Maryland ren fair, it looks almost identical to the Michigan ren fair. The two entrances are slightly different, but the layout and size almost identical.
I was just there last year! Went as Frodo, their dragon legs we're so good. Saw the joust right before it rained, and bought all kinds of great stuff. It was a bit of a drive for us, but I recommend it for anyone. Bring lots of money. Lots.
I also got drunk from the mead and it was hot. Amazing time. Can't wait to go back. My local renfair Blackrock went under, and I had gone every year of my life. So, went to the Michigan Ren fair and it blew my hobbit pants clean off.
thank you
I'm definitly gonna have to buy a utility belt like the one Squirrel has. I've always been a huuge collector of random stuff I find like cool stones, lost jewelry, branches etc. and that would be so useful (not to mention cute!)
@RatMortality Thanks, I'll look around!
@RatMortality yeah I'd love to
@RatMortality Ah, I'll look on etsy and other websites, thanks for the suggestions
Aww I love the mix of renaissance vibes and putting together an outfit simultaneously
Loved seeing how you highlighted each vendor! Looked like y'all had a lot of fun and the outfit turned out great!
It was so much fun! Thank you for watching !!đ
I absolutely loved the clothes you chose, particularly the velvet dress, itâs gorgeous!!! Also idk why when I saw that mug while the lady was explaining I was just like thatâs the mug you will choose, how havenât other people taken it? itâs so pretty wow I kinda want one, aaand then you chose it :) has it shown up in another video or something? Cause I instantly just knew lol.
That's so funny haha I'm gonna take it as a sign that the mug was truly meant to be
Thanks for making special mention of size inclusivity - Iâve been wanting to get more into sustainable clothing when I can afford it and the whole time watching your experience with Squirrel i was crossing my fingers. I get that with smaller brands and niche fashion they donât always have the means to have plus-sided clothing, so when that came up it was a huge relief.
Ohh! The Maryland Ren Faire! Love Bullseye, got my favorite corset from there
Ren faires are so funnnn! I volunteer at a yearly faire where I live and this Saturday and Sunday we have a thank-you weekend for the volunteers of last edition. I'm looking forward to it so much!
I love how she got increasingly more and more excited the more pieces she acquired and pieced together. Also, I love squirrel
obsessed with how you split the set of bracers - relationship goals
This renfaire looks all around amazing. I love that it looks to be in the woods, with many large buildings around. It gives slight Oregon Country Faire Vibes. The only renfaire near me is in the middle of an open field during the hottest month. The burns were unreal.
Definitely dream of going to a faire like this in the future. Thank you for sharing your experience.
So many beautiful pieces!! So wonderful to see such artisanal crafts kept alive
This video made me so happy, I'm vicariously living through you since we don't get as many Ren festivals here in Mexico, please do more videos like this
This was a refreshing video as all of the Washington Ren Faires are held in summer. Love seeing the various goods offered and how you brought the outfit to life over the course of the day!
My first ren faire, I bought most of a costume. It was actually a ton of fun to go booth the booth and having the shop keepers help add pieces(if they weren't too busy).
I love this concept! I recently explained to some friends that Ren Faires are for fun and you can dress however you want, and they were so surprised!
i cannot describe how much joy and comfort this video brings me - i don't even know why
it's just so relaxing and fulfilling
This is a great video! I have had this same thought before. Thank you for making it because I could never afford to do it. Every year I find good stuff for my costume and it changes overtime. Its interesting to see one costume come together over a single day.
Those sales assistants are so awesome
Your outfit turned out perfectly- that vest with the natural edge is amazing
Oh I love this! I did a recent trip a week ago to start building a ren fair outfit. I didn't have as good of a vision (or wear it that day) but I'm looking forward to building it up over time. I love the artisans you can find at these places! We actually ended up with mugs from Goodly Woods as well! They are so nice and thats probably a lifetime kind of purchase. I LOVE how you can tell how passionate the artisans are about their craft and the history and that lovely passion for the pure fun of a good renaissance festival
This was such a sweet video nd seeing all the staff help you with your goals is heartwarming
It looks great, you can keep adding pieces yearly. Makes me excited for my Renfest in Feb.
I'm so glad you went to Potomac!! I loved working there a couple weekends in 2019! Amazing people!!!
the vibes of this video are exactly what i needed tonight
this was adorable. loved the historical tidbits in between
I only just now got around to watching this and immediately started flipping my gourd when I realized that that's the Renaissance festival near my apartment and the one I've been going to since I was in diapers! I'm actually really happy that you made this because I still have yet to buy Ren faire garb and because this particular Ren Faire is so huge, it's very easy to miss shops. I'm glad to see Potomac leatherworks get some love and I am definitely writing down a list for when I inevitably have to shop before this year's Ren Faire â€â€
Minnesota's ren fest is always soooo hot! I would die in a velvet dress and leather! You look amazing!
I love the Maryland RenFest! I introduced going to the faire for my son (at the time we started going, he was 5). Giving him a budget to allow him to create his own costume was so much fun! I live overseas now and can't go. It was awesome to see it through your video. Thanks for sharing!
This was such a unique shopping spree video. Would love to see more of this
Loved seeing all the vendors/makers that populate a RenFaire. đ Was drooling over that long leather vest. đ€€đ€€đ€€đ€€ Really hope you get to grab one next year.
Very much appreciate the lass who was explaining about the Tara Brooch throwing in the whole oppression bit by the Brits. Tis something that gets glossed over a lot and I wanted to reach through the screen & hug her when she mentioned that bit about Queen Vic. đđ
You've given me so much inspiration for my outfit!
I have never been to a Renaissance Fair and this looked SO fun!!! So many beautiful items. đ
Shocked how big and beautiful this faire is! I've only gone to my local one the last 25 years or so and it's just 2 or 3 rows of tents out in a field. I can't believe there are ren faires out there that are full on real towns! I must go to one this grand some day~
i love how they were willing to let you film film, and they were so helpful đ„ș
I did this myself last year, was my first time going. I love the dress sooooo much. đ
SUCH a great video! you also really captured the amazing renfair vibe we all love. living through this until it's renfair season again where I live
I truly wish there were things like this on this scale in the UK!
Loved watching your renn faire outfit come to life!! I love the renn faire but have never put together a full outfit at the faire--looks like so much fun. You picked amazing pieces that you can wear and restyle so many ways, and I'm actually surprised that you got the full outfit, a mug, and other accessories for $805.
Hi! I was recommended this video and omg it was so cute and fun to watch! I love the outfit you put together. I have been to several Renaissance festivals and I never dress up. I need to! You've inspired me. And omg girl, you are so cute. I just LOVE your energy. đ
I have never been to a Ren Faire, but Iâve recently learned about their existence and as a girl who enjoys fantasy this seems like a fun summer activity! Iâm telling my mom about this tomorrow!
this video has very wholesome energy
You did an AWESOME job!!
I loved everything you chose. It was one of those videos where the vlogger always picked the same thing I wanted to pick.
Moresca and Crafty Celt are two of my favorites. Beautiful pieces! You look great!
That looked like so much fun. I would totally save up and go shopping at least once. Where is this place? I live in a state that's just starting to organize really good cons and festivals. I don't think we have anything like this. We might something civil war but nothing like this. I hope we get to see you go back for that amazing leather vest coat. Thank you for asking what their range of sizes are. I'm am a bigger size and I love watching your videos because you have such positive vibes and I feel that I learn a lot from you that I can adjust to fit myself. Keep shining, sunshine.
Aw thank you so much! This one is in MD đ
That center-bar buckle on your belt is gorgeous
Live been to Texas renn fests for a decade plus now. Itâs really interesting seeing whatâs similar and whatâs different between them and this one
The excitement in the âExpect mail from me!â Was so cute đ„°
YOU ARE SO SWIRLY I LOVE THIS VIDEO SO MUCHHH The swirls you do gives me happy feels
Please... Make this a tradition! One every year!
I love this so much! Such a fun video and I love being able to see artisan work with costuming contexts! Please do this again sometime!
Aah thanks I'm glad you liked it!!
Love your outfit! It came out so beautiful! I'm definitely going to looking for Moresca next year because I want every single vest you showed lol.
Beautiful outfit! That skirt/vest thing was stunning, definitely get that next year!
This was so fun to watch and you look so fabulous!!! I always wanted to go on a full out shopping spree at the faire! I did finally get a pair of those iridescent fairy wings this year and I am obsessed!
This is my home Faire!!!! Nice to see someone showcasing MDRF.
This video has the BEST vibes totally loved this
Bravo!
They are most fun.
I love this idea so much! I'm gonna have to do this next year!!
Love this outfit, love Renn Fest! Maybe next year you could do... a demon? Horns and wings!!
Demon would be fun! They definitely have some cute horns there!
Potomac Leather makes the FINEST stuff. I got my belt and belt pouches from them for my own garb, and my husband got his wedding vest from them!
Love you hair/bangs at the 3:40 minute mark vid !!! So cute!
Having participated in the original Renaissance Pleasure Faire in California at the beginning, from 1970 until 1980s as an artist, it was nice to see that you chose a great assortment of articles to make a very Renaissance costume. I hope next year you get the long jacket that called your name. Please make more videos. 20:33
Love this! Definitely started my collection at Bullseye and Moresca! I always add a few more pieces every year to build up my collection for different themes - not always intending on full matching pieces. I love how much of a collection of things you got in just one haul!
I figured if I stick with one or two color schemes that everything will hopefully match haha than you for watching!!
Hi Minji! I just wanted to say that your videos have inspired me to want to go to my first ren faire and indulge my inner 12 year old! I'm planning to go to the SoCal one this May, and I have my outfit planned and everything so thank you so much!! I also just wanted to say that it is such a JOY watching you work; you're very good at what you do! I put your videos on while I'm crafting and it's a fun time. Anyways, take care! ^_^
I live in Alaska and Iâve been to MD ren faire 6 times in the last 10 years. I knew which faire as soon as I saw the front gate!
This was so fun! Loved seeing all the options :)
This is my local ren faire!! In my state!! It's the best one!! I am so glad seeing other people love it so much. It is home & where I consider my family to be.
Gorgeous mug you chose đ
I hope to go to this year. If you ever get the chance, there is a booth in the far back left corner of the fair that sells discounted corsets if you ever wanted to give them a try.
Huzzah for supporting local artists! Iâd love to know which faire you were at. Ours is the Minnesota faire and Iâve been patronizing it since the 80s. I even worked for a friend of mine who was a pen/ink and watercolor artist for several years. I have wool capes and ponchos from Half Moon Traveler, belts, pouches and mug straps from Renaissance Leather, many hair toys from The Bronze Jewelers (look them up online, youâll love them), jewelry from several artists, a handmade parasol, hand dyed silk scarves and many pieces of garb from a tailor friend. Heâs making us bespoke outfits this spring for our faire this year. Iâm so excited!
Very cool! Hope to see a new one this year!
You'd have a wonderful time here in the UK. We do multiperiod battles etc in actual medieval castles. They have all stalls out, and people doing medieval crafts. The last time I went to one it was a place called Kirby hall. An Elizabethan country house, and they did this 16th century procession , and they had a woman dressed as Elizabeth 1st on horseback , white face and everything. Against the back drop of this tall 16th century country house, it gave me goosebumps. She looked bloody amazing !!!
Ahh, Crownsville--my favorite!
It came out so nice too!
I feel like since you did a big budget it would be fun to see a low budget version!
I missed my local Ren Faire this year. Guess I will be squirreling away some funds for next year !
I think the point is that she's paying the artisans at the fair a decent price!
Ah I think this is actually more like a low-medium budget version đ definitely could easily go into thousands of dollars if I'd done more jewelry and accessories! I'll do some more research though and see if I can come up with something less expensive. Tbh the low budget option is more likely repurposing thrift store finds, but that would also be a fun video!
I agree with Minji, this probably is the low budget version. Bringing not-real-leather pieces youâve bought/made would be a lot cheaper. Since all the stuff is artisanal, itâs all going to be expensive because youâre paying what it is really worth. You canât get cheap prices because the workers pay themselves living wages.
Quite interesting how you folks do these activities. I can see quite a bit of differences to medieval markets / reenactment stuff here in germany :)
Not me mentally putting together an outfit. That black hooded vest did me in. I cannot unsee it đ©âš
I wish we had this in Australia. Everything looks great
Loved it! You can fit right in with đ§ââïž Fairies too!
i haven't been to a ren faire in over a decade, but this makes me want to go back so badly. i just hope that by the time i can go again, I'll have the funds to build an outfit like this!
You should!!! Ill be going to the SoCal one this May!
I love going to the MD RenfairâŠsad Iâm going to miss this year..đą
Loving the garb you put together.
Really fun video, thanks!
On a word - beautiful - Outfit.
For the u.ninitiated the Ren Faire does not require period Garb. It makes you feel like a part of the village then go for it but it is not required
Damn, i'd love to go to the US for a Ren Fair once, you guys have such massive fairs with a plethora of amazing artisans and craftsmen/women, it's amazing !!
Here it feels like you're always seeing the same dozen or so shops, and half of them aren't really artisans but just selling goods that kinda fit the general vibe of RenFairs, like "hand crafted" rings, soaps, and teas.
