    PioneerDJ is extremely smart. What they did for the evolution of a House DJ to CDJs (DDJ-200, 400, 800, 1000, Club Layout/performance ready) they are finally doing for the Serato / open format DJ. If all open format DJs use the DDJ-S7/S9/S11 then this REV-1 is their DDJ 400 with the REV-7 being their DDJ 800. I would not be surprised in 2023 you see a REV-11 with a full S11 Layout. As they perfect the bugs with the controllers I could imagine the XDJ line becoming the REV-DJ line and from there, there will be a LOT of used Rane Ones on the Used section of your local DJ shop! Lol Good Job by PioneerDJ!

      I think that the Rev7 is the DDJ1000 of the series. I think we'll see a Rev3 or Rev5 made with some parts from the RX3 or 800 which would be the middle ground controller.

    I started back in 79-80 back In Chicago with cassette decks, which turned into one turntable and cassette deck, then two non pitch turntables and finally ended up with 1200’s…but I stopped in the early 90’s…I just started again in May 2022 with the Mixstream Pro, I just picked up the Rev1 due to wanting to learn Serato. Really interesting learning this new technology.

    This looks like a great backup controller or one to use messing around at home. I could see myself using this at a gig too especially if it’s a wedding where you don’t need much. Carrying 1200s is overkill for small gigs.

    Max respect MoJaxx! My first setup my first setup was two used technics 1200 mk2's with a Gemini 626 pro mixer and two Gemini CDJ 1200 players. When my technics got messed up. I actually improved my mixing on the gemini cdj's. The cdj's had a delay from when you would press the play button to when the track actually started to play that helped me improve my timing back then. I think it's amazing how gear has evolved and how it has evolved what and how we mix.

    I'm definitely gonna try to convince any of my newbie friends leaning toward controllers to get this one. Incredible piece of gear for the price! I started off in the late 80's with 1 Technics SL-3200, a JVC dual cassette deck, and a Radio Shack Realistic 32-1100A mixer. (countless gear later, I'm currently on a Pioneer s11 and 2 Reloop RP8000s turntables ...how far we've come lol)

    This is a great review, thanks! I started out with Technics SL-1210 Mk II turntables and a Vestax mixer, many years ago. I'm still using those today, you can see me mix on them in the latest video on my channel. However, I also love CDJs and controllers. I recently got myself the Rev 7 and I love it, but it's heavy! So I will also order the Rev 1 for reasons of portability. Oh, and I'm also thinking about getting a pair of Rane 12s and the Rane 72.

    Great and informative review as always Mojaxx. Just please leave that :O faces thumbnails to influencers 😂
    DJ community won't click because of that, forget what social media managers tells you

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx Před 2 lety +3

      Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. It’s the way of CZcams these days - because it’s been proved to work. Not saying I love it, but that’s the reality!

    • @CS-ep3ku
      @CS-ep3ku Před 2 lety

      @@Mojaxx Sad to hear it's come to that man. I've always loved your reviews, mostly because of the honesty/sincerity; you seem like a real one for sure. This definitely feels like a step in the opposite direction and as the OP said, it screams "influencer" / sponsored "reviews" etc. I believe you when you say you don't like it and I hope you'll stand up for your integrity and let your content speak for itself rather than just chasing clicks above all else. Thanks for all the great content up to this point, looking forward to more in the future. Cheers from across the pond

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx Před 2 lety +4

      @@CS-ep3ku Again, I’m afraid I have to disagree. A cheesy thumbnail doesn’t influence the content in any way - I’m not about to change the fundamentals of what I do. That would be crazy.
      But cheesy thumbnails with faces on them DO drive clicks, that’s just a fact.
      A prime example for me is Linus Tech Tips - that guy is the king of the clickbait thumbnail, but I completely trust his reviews.
      Ultimately for those who would watch the videos anyway, the thumbnails make no difference, but it might encourage more new viewers to watch. And I’d love to be connecting with more DJs around the world. What’s the point of doing this otherwise?

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx Před 2 lety +4

      Just to be clear to you both - this was MY idea. It wasn’t some diktat from a shadowy social media person. I spend an absurd amount of time watching CZcams, and I see what works.

    • @CS-ep3ku
      @CS-ep3ku Před 2 lety

      @@Mojaxx Thanks for the response and I hear you.
      Was concerned this might be the start of a slippery slope toward "lowest common denominator" / maximum clicks type of content, which I've seen on so many other channels. First the thumbnails, then the content itself, then the cheesy/phony surveys, skits, etc etc. You know where I'm going with this.
      But you've addressed that concern and thank you for that, much appreciated. I hope this approach works to grow the audience as you said. Thanks again for addressing this and best of luck going forward!
      (edit) Oops, forgot to say in my first comment that some of us do avoid channels with the cheesy thumbnails (and have unsubscribed / stopped watching because of it), though I concede I'm probably very much in the minority on that. Just my $.02 at the end of the day. Either way, best of luck with the new direction.

    Great review of a nice budget controller with lots of features. My first attempts at scratching was on my parents stereo turntable. After snow shoveling and Christmas cash I purchased a pair of used Pioneer PL 514s ($180). They were belt driven, had an S arm and a counter weight. First mixer was a RadioShack Realistic 3 channel mixer ($100). The first upgrade was to the Pyramid P4700 (wood side) mixer. This was in 1984 in the Bronx NYC.

    if i did get this (beginner btw) why exactly would i be displeased by there not being a split queue in the software? Basically asking whats the function of it and for what reason is it any better than the physical split cue button?

    How does it compare to the Numark Mixtrack Pro series because that thing has been great for me to use in a streaming setup. Love the long throw pitch faders on it but I am intrigued by the battle style setup of this Pioneer unit.

      Absolutely in the same ballpark as each other when it comes to quality. I certainly wouldn’t recommend swapping one for the other, in either direction.

    I see some reviews saying it does work with serato dj pro but no one says how, I just got this rev 1 and serato dj pro doesnt recognize it, neither is any drivers for it in Pioneerdj.

      Do you have a license for DJ Pro? Gotta have a license for Pro to work with this.

    • @eddieacosta3802
      @eddieacosta3802 Před rokem +1

      It works as it enabled to with it but you’ll need a license for Serato DJ Pro. So if you’re like me and have multiple set ups like technique 1200s with a DJM S11 or DDJ 1000 which has Serato DJ Pro already installed, meaning its native to the actual product.
      This controller will work with it but you will need to have purchased the $249 version of the software. Mine worked until the trial expired and then you’re left w using Serato DJ Lite which sucks hard. I’ll be selling mine as I used it once and I’m not buying the software for just this controller when I already have it on 4 other set ups.

    Salute, Mojaxx!!! Whats up with all the orange/yellow lighting on it?🤢🤮 looks very tacky. Takes away from the design. Jogwheels are corny too. Maybe brushed aluminum would be nicer. The Gen 1 DDJ Wego Jogs look fresher and even more premium.
