#HonestTrailers - Krátké a kreslené filmy
This movie was such an interesting product of a time when everyone was super excited about computers, but nobody knew what they did or really what they were.
Lot's of people did.
Lot's of movie writers/producers didn't.
And yet… how is that too different from today? Lol
@@CitizenKen1 Today, so many more *think* they know.

"Everyone looks like the Spice Girls f***ed a RadioShack!" I died.
Yeah that was a real good one. Also very accurate.
Now that I have seen it I cannot unsee it
I should not have been eating when he said that. Best line of the whole thing (now, I got a mess to clean up).
Hahaha i was going to write that!
You will not be mourned.
I was in college studying computers when this came out. Drove past Stuyvesant (their HS in the film) daily. The depiction of tech was completely silly back then, but the jargon was actually pretty spot on.
The soundtrack still kills it today, and the film is up there with The 5th Element in the "if it's on, I'm watching it" category.
I still rock the soundtrack from time to time.
I still love to put "Halcyon, and on, and on" on loop.
I was 15 when this came out. I fucking loved the movie and the soundtrack too.
@@MisterBearNaked At least once every couple of months, it's like my go-to any time I'm putting together a new build for a client :)
They used jargon but they didn't use it correctly most of the time. They were just using words they heard.

"It wasn't me!"
Dr Phot I love the (singer) Shaggy reference, but I was referring to Shaggy from the Scooby-Doo series, played by Matthew Lillard in the live action movies. I think Hackers might have actually been the first time I saw Lillard in anything, same with Jolie and Miller.
"Spandex, it's a privilege, not a right." -Best line ever.
It's a good one though I'm fond of "if it isn't leopard boy and the deceptions" 😁
Personally I love "That's what he does, look slick all day"
Film has one of the greatest soundtracks EVER
Yesss!
I'm imagining those people too young to appreciate the Circuit City reference. That hit me in the feels.
I was just going thru my old receipts and paperwork this week and found a Circuit City receipt. "Well I guess I can get rid of this one". Two truths were discovered:
1. I am way older than I think I am.
2. I should go through my old paperwork more often.

@@KTKZon58 still annoys me the version on the soundtrack isn’t the one from the film
Fun fact: Three soundtracks were published. The OST, then Hacker^2, followed by Hackers^3. At some point, a re-release was done that included some of the original music by Simon Boswell. Although that could have been a bootleg, I got in the 00s. They did put out an official 25th-anniversary version in 2020 that included Simon's music.
I was SO hoping you'd draw a reference to the similar locations between the Hackers club and the TMNT hideout because I've been trying FOR YEARS to get you all to do an Honest Trailer for TMNT 1990, to no avail.
Do it already, damnit.
They did ooze, BOTH remakes, and out of their shell but not the original? SHAME.
Because. Its. So. Perfect
Omg yes!! All this time I thought I was the only one who noticed that!! 😂
@@kaygee5115 Probably because it’s good for a 90s comic movie (I’d argue still decent) and the others have tons of comedic material to work with.

The villain rolling by on his skateboard to grab the file-drive thing, was the most memorable scene of the movie. LOL
Haha I love how they made that scene look like an old noir movie too
No mention of the soundtrack, that 90's techno was 🔥!
Prodigy!
I must have seen Hackers 1507 times since my youth. Thanks for the spot on comments, I genuinely laughed out loud through the whole video 😂
Do you think Hackers influenced the matrix?
This movie is the DEFINITION of “guilty pleasure” for me. LOVE it.
Same
No shame in this game
It's became a cult classic for me.
yep
Nothing to be guilty about. Does a lot of things movies today wish they knew how to do. Diverse cast, strong female lead, etc
This movie is the reason entire generation grew up to love computers and wanting to get into coding. And the soundtrack ?!?! I mean The Prodigy, Orbital, Leftfield, Underworld all into one movie ?!?! It set the tone for the next decade of awesome techno and electro soundtracks. You know - the time before the BWAAAAAAAAs.
Generations will bow to ZeroCool
Yes. Me included!
Not gon lie, I watched this movie when i was 15 years old and it was one of the reasons I decided to learn coding and go to uni for electrical engineering, specializing in robotics. This movie will always have a special place in my ❤️. Plus the soundtrack was AWESOME!!!
I often forget that this film was the source of a one of my favorite quotes. "Spandex: it's a privilege, not a right" 🤣
What's funny walking through the mall this quote always comes to mind.. It's like these women have friends that are afraid to tell them the truth..
Someone should translate that to yoga pants for the modern times.
The epitome of every 90s movie - the final level boss was a 3d motion simulator at 14fps, controlled by a keyboard , like a f****ing mavis beacon on steroids
LMAO. Mavis Beacon forever!
I can't believe we're at a point when we can now watch this film with feelings of nostalgia. AOL? Geocities? Modems? We've come a long way, baby...
We need an honest trailer for Who Framed Roger Rabbit!!
I know!!!
YESSS and Cool World too!
"Netscape Navigators" is the best honest movie title so far. :-)
I feel old, but refreshed!
Now I have the urge to listen to "Halcyon" by Orbital. 😀

Every code monkey I know defends this movie to the death and I love them for it.
Yep! We programmers LOVE IT :)
I know a lot of Cable Cowboys doing the same....me included
I'll defend this movie forever. The jargon is mostly accurate, they can't be blamed for giving a visual medium a visual representation of what's going on, and Angelina Jolie looks like a punk rock elf.
And they get a couple things right, like hacking is hours of trial and error poking around until you figure something out. And phishing has taught us social engineering is the easiest way to get into systems.
Have you ever read Knight of ghosts and shadows by Mercedes Lackey and Ellen Guon? I think you might get a kick out of it. Elves in LA, late 80s cyber punk sort of…
Yeah, people always forget the guy behind 2600 was a consultant for the film. Although they pumped the visuals and sidestepped for action, this film was one of the more authentic things made in the 90s, if not the 00s, that was mainstream.
I agree. the screen visuals aren't necessarily supposed to be what they are seeing, but something to represent what's going on with something more interesting than just text crawls.
Come to think of it the overnight breaking down the problem is a little too real.
I will admit to every fault of this movie...
And I will also admit to having a deep, devoted love for this movie, with a healthy side helping of massive nostalgia.
100% This movie is objectively pretty bad. But even today still one of my all time favorites.
@@killab6859 It's not objectively bad. From a technical perspective, it's very solid, and the rest is all artistic liberty. It achieves what it set out to do, and that makes it a good movie.

It's up there with Howard the Duck, but it also is the main source of The Matrix, and much more to the point.

Sounds sweet. We used to haul our PCs and giant CRT monitors around and have week long sleep overs during school holidays and eat, sleep and breathe CS, turning the room in to a tactical command center with large print outs of the maps, scribbling, discussing and testing tactics. We even made it to #1 on clanbase and compete in LAN tournaments... good times indeed.

Entertaining movie. A lot of peeps I know that didn't like it their reason was because it portrays hacking in an unrealistic way. Well, it's not about hacking, it's about hackers, or specifically, the personas they have created for themselves and now shown through their lives. Its almost like a tech fantasy movie. I always dug it, especially for the soundtrack.
It's a mistake to take the hacking sequences literally. The visuals are a representation, a metaphor, not the actual thing.

Agreed. The visual was necessity for the product of the time.

At my first office job, we used to fax a transmittal to the other company to tell them that we just modemed them a file… Yeah, that’s right, I’m old.
At my Gov't engineering job, back in 1999, when we all got Pentium 5's, Windows NT, Microsoft Office, & Email, just before Y2K, we had an old school boss who "Implemented" a policy where anyone who wanted to send an email or transmit files via "Utilizing" email had to first submit a paper memo, typed by the typing pool (which still existed), with a signoff line for the boss man. We all Hazed the living F out of the 1 older guy who actually complied with this policy & submitted memo's. The rest of us had the boss man convinced we had no need to send emails or transmit files, so he was raising the suspicion of the boss man that we actually did indeed "Utilize" emails & e-file transfers.
