In germany we use selfmade protection made out of 90% petroleum jelly and 10% beewax. It must be heat to 250°F (about 120°C). It can be sprayed on or painted on. It will stay for a very long time. After 10 years you can repaint it again. Its very inexpensive and does not harm the environment.
How convenient to have a good video on this with an 80 as the subject. Luckily my 97 is pretty darn clean underneath, considering, but I’ve been planning to do this before winter. Thanks for the reminders on all the little nooks and crannies to get into!
I had a company come out and apply black wool wax on on 1999 Silverado that and fluid film are owned by same company I had been using fluid film for about a decade before
I'm jelly as hell. You guys seem to have all the rust free EF civics. All the Honda groups I'm in are filled with PNW guys. I've got a Georgia owned '89 Wagovan and love the thing but they even rust down there.
I spray my winter tire rims inside and out with fluid film, it forms a mat black tough film that doesn't wash off, similar to what you see on the bottom of a car door that's been sprayed.
Just found your channel - awesome vid. Also the owner of a few rusty toyota vehicles and always used fluid film. Learned a few things in this vid thank you.
Nice, I was actually thinking about using this on my 2010 Miata, its my daily year round driver. So yea, my vehicle choices are not in the top 100.......I had never seen the kit with the spray tube like that before, very cool.
Hey your cat's video brought me here (hope they both fine) But i am impressed by your easy tips and solutions for car. Great Job ! channel deserves more subs and views for sure
What a job, this video just proves that the drillings done by Krown and other rust-proofing chains are just completely unnecessary and its done to simply show you "something was done".
There's a link in the description for the cans + wand. The wand I had worked great for a while, then started leaking. Now they sell a 3 pack of cans with a wand included for those exact cans, so it should work better hopefully.
I sprayed fluid film inside my doors (bottom, behind the rubber) and rockers and now my car smells like mildew, is this normal? It reeks, especially when my vehicle sits in the hot sun for an hour or longer.🤮 i feel like i will need to clean the fluid out and just spray some rustoleum....what would you suggest i do? The smell is so bad to the point where i could barely sit in my vehicle for that long.
I used 3 for everything I did in this video, plus I sprayed some inside the frame holes. I had already done the underside using a spray gun and bulk gallon. (I only used about half of the gallon)
I don't think 6 is enough, especially if you're spraying inside of the frame and the underside of the vehicle. I'd buy 12 for the first time, just to have enough on hand.
Yeah it does and I don't think there's a word to describe it. It's not terrible to me, but my kids act like it's worse than a skunk or fart. It goes away after a couple of days.
My only concern is can you wash your car after doing this ??? Lol will it wash off in an automatic car wash which uses and undercarriage spray or does it have to be done by hand ?
Smells like strong mink oil you would use on your baseball gloves or leather products. It's an natural oil from animal's fur (sheep) but doesn't smell that bad (to me).
Is it ok to use on rubber, or rather have you had any problems? I saw some comments somewhere that said it makes some rubber not resistant to oil soft and sag. Also have you ever used the Fluid Film Black? Is it the same thing only in black? Thanks
On my acura I found it did cause the rubber beneath the front edge of the hood to expand a little. I've never had any problems with bushings or hoses though. I haven't used black, but I've read that it's the same formula, just black on color. I stick to the original because it's a little less messy if I have to do any suspension work, being somewhat yellow instead of black.
You can drive instantly, as it always stays kind of greasy until after a couple of trips down dusty roads and it will get a layer of dirt on top of the fluid film.
If I spray them from the outside with the hose nozzle on full blast, a tiny bit of water will drip on the inside. But under normal conditions, they are good. I did clean out the channels when I first bought the toyota. They were full of pine needles and dirt.
Hello, I just acquired a 2nd gen Tacoma. Was wondering if I can spray FF in the water drain holes at the bottom of the door. Am worried because I don’t want it to clog water from the FF. Thanks as always! Also I heard FF swells up rubber would it be safe to spray it near the weatherstripping?
Yes you can spray in the bottom of the doors, just don't over do it and clog the drain hole. That protection in the bottom of the inside of the door panel is important. I have had FF swell some rubber trim and not others. My Toyotas have been OK, but the weatherstripping on the hood of my acura swelled up noticeably.
When I see these rotted cars, I wonder do these people do literally anything about the salt? Even an undercarriage wash weekly will help. I do not understand.
If you have fluid film under your car, you are better off not doing the undercarriage spray. People on youtube actually did tests on that. If you don't have fluid film, you still might be better off not doing the undercarriage spray because it keeps it wet. I use to pressure wash the underside of my cars weekly and they still rotted out so bad they wouldn"t pass inspection. My son did the undercarriage spray all the time and we just sent his car to the crusherI it was unbelievable how rusted the underside was and it only had 67,000 miles on it but was 20 years old. Fluid film is the way to go otherwise it's going to rot.

This is an excellent idea! How do you heat and spray the mixture? Regular paint gun?
Your videos are very nicely done you deserve more views
That fluid film is good stuff.

It's a great piece of mind to know that this job has been done before taking it out in winter weather. 80's are a beast in the snow... Enjoy!
Woah I had just ordered a Woolwax gun and a gallon of fluid film ! Great timing !
I had a company come out and apply black wool wax on on 1999 Silverado that and fluid film are owned by same company I had been using fluid film for about a decade before
I'm so thankful to live in Oregon, salt wise.
Yes you are! Ohio is a slow death sentence to most vehicles.
I'm jelly as hell. You guys seem to have all the rust free EF civics. All the Honda groups I'm in are filled with PNW guys. I've got a Georgia owned '89 Wagovan and love the thing but they even rust down there.
Can't wait to try this since the car Im working on already has the interior removed. Awesome job on the video

I do a light coat on mine before winter too. I just cleaned them off with a pressure washer last week. It's so good to see them clean again!

Thanks! I started out with cat videos back in the day and found my way into car videos. We still have the 2 cats :)
best Vid yet, thanks for all the details!
Nice job bud! Great tips here!
Good job 👍
Thanks 👍
Man, even with the fluid film I would feel bad driving that in the winter.
If I ever restore the 80, I'll probably buy a beater 4runner for winter driving.
2:38 --that's what she said...

If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself.
The trick is knowing just when to pull out.
Can this be used on existing rust? Will the rust spread if it is not removed prior to spraying? Mainly under car doors, rocker panels, fenders etc
I've used it over existing rust, and although it won't completely stop it from spreading over time, it will help slow it down.
Nice..
Thanks
Also, if you live anywhere near an ocean &, if you do, you know what I mean.
is it worth doing on an older car since it already has started rusting?
It will slow it down from rusting more, but it won't stop it completely.
Where did you get the extension want is it leaking at all on the top of can

It will usually go away after a day. You can park it with the windows open some to help air it out.
Hey dude. How many cans of Fluid Film do you need for an 80 as you did it?
I used 3 for everything I did in this video, plus I sprayed some inside the frame holes. I had already done the underside using a spray gun and bulk gallon. (I only used about half of the gallon)
How many aerosol cans would you need to coat a f150 SuperCrew? 6 would be enough of the 333g?
I don't think 6 is enough, especially if you're spraying inside of the frame and the underside of the vehicle. I'd buy 12 for the first time, just to have enough on hand.
Thanks for this. I haven’t used that product before.....Does it have any odors?
It does smell funky yes. At first at the very least. Great Product though !
Yeah it does and I don't think there's a word to describe it. It's not terrible to me, but my kids act like it's worse than a skunk or fart. It goes away after a couple of days.

Can you do the CDL 7pin mod next?
Good idea!

Where did you get the plastic attachment for the spray can ?
I got it from amazon, there's a link in the description
How long does it take to dry/cure on underside before driving again?
You can drive instantly, as it always stays kind of greasy until after a couple of trips down dusty roads and it will get a layer of dirt on top of the fluid film.
Do you have water leaking issues from those sliding trunk windows?
If I spray them from the outside with the hose nozzle on full blast, a tiny bit of water will drip on the inside. But under normal conditions, they are good. I did clean out the channels when I first bought the toyota. They were full of pine needles and dirt.
What about the smell?
It goes away after a few days of driving.
👍

It's amazing how many people do nothing. I guess they don't plan on keeping the car for a long time, then it ends up rotting out on a future owner.

@@ron4413 Fluid film is the best. My dads truck is rotted to hell.
