  • Welcome to my full ride review of the 2022 ORBEA RISE M-TEAM.
    #ORBEA #emtb #review
    I spent another day on the Southdowns national park near Eastbourne, testing this incredible lightweight-EMTB. My aim was to compare it against a full-powered emtb to see what the main differences were. I was blown away with its "normal MTB" feel and capabilities.
    Massive thanks to Olie from Velocipede Cycles in Tunbridge Wells for trusting me with and allowing me to test his awesome bike. Please go check out this bike shop, as I can't recommend them highly enough. They stock some incredible brands such as Orbea, Kona, NS, Yeti and Evil.
    Website:

    I've based my review on my own personal experience comparing it against the full powered Whyte E160RS emtb that I've also recently tested.

    The test bike:
    2022 ORBEA RISE M-TEAM.
    RRP: £8,799
    size L
    Weight with 360 Wh = 18.18kg / 40lbs (Compared to a full power eMTB = 25kg / 55lbs)
    150/140 mm (f/r)
    Weight with 360 Wh + 252 Wh = 612 Wh = 20.52 kg
    Orbea wanted a pure Mountain bike experience with the added benefit of some additional Power, so they worked directly with Shimano to develop a custom version of the EP8 motor, which Orbea added a custom tune that was based around the four keystone factors, Power, weight, range and Rider Interface. All this was then coupled with a lightweight 360Wh internal battery with the very latest 21700 cells.

    Rise shares the same super-light carbon construction techniques used with Occam and Rallon.

    I have watched loads of videos about the Rise, most of them are entertaining but bear no relation to the type of riding I do in the UK. This is the first one that actually addresses (and answers) all the questions I have bar one.
    What is the battery life? By this I don't mean when you are riding, what is the practical lifespan of the battery? Once it has died, do Orbea provide a recycling/replacement service? Battery disposal can be a real PITA and it something no one ever seems to talk about.
    Otherwise, top video.

      @@UPHILLPHILL Hi Phil. I have spoken to Orbea, they say there is no recycling or replacement program. Quite what happens when the battery eventually dies I don't know. (EDIT: Orbea have subsequently confirmed they have the capacity to provide replacement batteries for a 'long time')
      The Fuel Ex e seems to have a far more user friendly battery system and Trek seem to be quite switched on with the environmental side of things. It certainly seems more than just the usual green washing you normally get from companies. No one talks about battery life or disposal but it is going to become more relevant as time goes by. It might be a subject you think about including in future reviews as it is relevant. 😀

      @UPHILLPHILL  Před rokem +1

      Cheers for your update John. I also contacted Orbea and had a similar response, which tbh is a little disappointing. Yes, these bikes are amazing but because of the battery eventually coming to an end, it’s something that definitely needs to be factored into the purchase. Thanks for the info regarding the Trek👍.

    How does the cut off work? So at 16 mph there is no more assistance meaning if you ride at 20 mph you are assisted to 16 mph after that it's just you?
    Can you get it to like 20 mph pretty easy on a flat terrain?

    • @UPHILLPHILL
      @UPHILLPHILL  Před rokem

      The bike will assist you to 16mph, legally, any assistance past is therefore not legal so it is then your own raw power after 16mph. So depending on how much raw power you have available depends on your overall top speed 😉.

    Did you go to school and for how long ?
    Genuinely asking for tips here
    I need to make changes in my life , and I need a career path that can afford me hobbies and time to do things I enjoy and go on vacation etcetc :/
    I've done trades and I want to be not miserable when I'm older and I'm intelligent enough that I can learn just about anything
    I was looking into becoming a psychiatrist but holy shit I'm 29 and that's like 14 years of school, 10 years to be a doctor then another 4, so I'd be 43 , and I can't afford to go to school for 14 years lmfao 🙃 I was looking into getting my pilot license but I got really depressed and relapsed after being in an abusive relationship and I overdosed behind the wheel and might be looking at a dui so I can't get my pilot license if that happens, but I can still get driving jobs after 15 months .. I'm sick and tired if being a fucj up and I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired enough enough I gotta make a change,

      @UPHILLPHILL  Před rokem +1

      Andrew, firstly, thanks so much for watching my video and secondly I’m convinced that there’s a positive path for everyone on this planet including you.
      A little about my story then. I never really enjoyed school and after leaving I went into an engineering role as a sewing machine mechanic and quickly realised that that all my childhood years of loving bikes and repairing them had led me towards a passion for engineering. I also developed a passion for water sports and teaching, so went down the route of an instructor which allowed me to develop further skills which has led me to the role I have now as a telecommunications engineering trainer.
      Long story short, I’ve been very lucky to have had such great routes to follow but I’ve always been drawn to subjects that not only I’m interested in but also that I enjoy a great deal.
      My advice would be to focus on these things, identify what ever it is that you are really interested in and what makes you happy, follow the route that unfolds, try different things, get out of your comfort zone, say yes to things you’d normally say no to and you maybe be surprised what opportunities open up for you.
      With regards to the expensive bikes, well, I’ve made some amazing friends through my mountain biking journey which started back in 1986. I’ve some great buddies who happen to own my local bike shop and allow me to test their bikes. I’ve also built up a solid knowledge of bike maintenance of which not only saves me a lot of time and money but also gives me great pleasure when finding pre-loved bikes that need help and some TLC, so I breathe life back in to them and sell them on This helps me save enough to buy the amazing bikes I’ve been lucky enough to own and that’s exactly what I’m currently doing now for my next bike, along with hard work and overtime 😉.
      CZcams has also really helped me, as it is another route of learning that is very rewarding and something that I didn’t think possible but I’ve really surprised myself and it’s now just starting to bring me a little income through monetisation, again something I didn’t foresee.
      I truly hope you find your route/path that opens up your world and allow you to buy the bike you deserve.
      Good luck dude and thanks again for your support 🤜🤛.
