- "In Dulci Jubilo" is a German/Latin 'macaronic' text, probably written by the German mystic Heinrich Seuse in about 1328. The German words were translated into English by R. L. de Pearsall in 1837.
The tune, commonly known as 'In Dulci Jubilo' first appears in Codex 1305, a manuscript in Leipzig University Library dating from about 1400, although it has been suggested that it may have existed in Europe prior to this date.
It is performed here by the Bach Choir and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
