God it sounds like he's trying to stifle a laugh when he says "As neatly as you can"
This is by far my favourite interpretation of William. Not some, mad scientist creating robots with soul juice or whatever it was... Just, a cold hearted, emotionless monster. Someone so confident that he can get away with it, because he knows he can. And he did, until those he murdered came back to give him what he deserves.

Honestly, William is much better portrayed here than in the actual lore. A psychopath father who went on a murder spree because his Oldest killed his Youngest; and he couldn’t kill his Oldest or else people will find out so he finds replacements. That makes much more sense to me than a psychopath who wants to bring his son back from the dead by using magic and souls.

Honestly, I don't think it's canon in any universe that William's goal was to bring the Crying Child back to life. Collecting Revenant was only ever about his own immortality, and given his personality, I'm sure even that's just a bonus compared to the joy of murder.

this is a masterpiece because it shows WHY the Afton family was so messed up from the beginning. it didnt start with animatronics. it started with a dysfunctional family centered around a psychopathic father. it shows the psyche behind WHY William Afton kills. it's honestly one of the most disturbing parts of the whole FNAF VHS series..
edit: i also believe that William Afton is wrong about Michael. i think that Michael was never trying to kill the younger brother (in this case Joseph), but he was just trying to mess with him and bully him as a result of his own mistreatment and shunning. i think Joseph's death really was an accident as a result of a bullying prank gone too far, but William Afton, being the psychopath that he is, interprets it as an act of cold-hearted, inhumane murder born out of hatred towards the father, rather than an accident born out of jealous feelings towards a brother.

    Two lines stand out here.
"Mike wasn't settled with being a failure."
"He was always a terrible kid, not worth my time."
So William is an abusive, narcissistic, eventually-MURDEROUS single father who hated and resented Michael (possibly because Michael reminds him of the wife who left him, if that's what happened), and refused to help or teach him in spite of their situation, like a good father. Instead of taking the time to help HIM, he preferred to put ALL of his time on his younger son, Joseph.
Michael felt alone and resentful towards the man who abandoned him when he needed him the most, so he took it out on Joseph, eventually taking it too far with the 83 accident.
After that, Michael had a moment of reflection. Full of remorse and regret, he resolved to put things right as much as possible...
...particularly after his father chose to kill other kids because he didn't wanna get caught taking revenge on his own son.
Everything about this can be traced back to William. It was always HIS fault. He was a terrible father, and a pathetic man, too prideful to admit that he failed to be there for his eldest son.
Then again, "failed to be there" implies that he actually TRIED.
It's possible that he never WANTED to be there for Michael.

God, the VA is amazing here! Afton just sounds so predatory at the end. It’s almost like he’s a hound on the end of a lead, patiently yet eagerly awaiting for the go-ahead to hunt down and kill his target. He’s just _waiting_ for the moment where the pros for killing Michael, his own son, outweigh the cons. And he’s _excited_ for when that day comes.
Plus, the notion of a serial killer using their victims as a sub-par substitute for their real target is haunting.

That’ll actually make for a good horror story.
Ooh! Ooh! I’ll write one just like that right now!
      _A H E M . . ._
      _April 4th, 1994_
      Two months.
It had been two months since the original plan.
Now, he was sure of it. Now was the time to finally do it. Micheal left the house without the slightest second of looking back. He had a sense of feeling that made him feel that whatever is going to happen, he’s be ok with it. He got his keys out of his pocket and turned it in the ignition. He started up the car and drove his way to the House. Micheal has enough patience to withstand everything else that had happened to him in those two months, but all of that went down the drain yesterday. Now, he has no fear of what’s to come next. All he wants are two things. His belongings, and his secrets. It took a long 15 minute drive to get there, but he made it. Micheal stepped out of the car with ease and checked his watch.
      _It was 1:00 AM._
“I’m on time.” he whispered to himself.
Using the clue that he got from Jason yesterday, he managed to find out where William his the keys. He hid them in the _birdhouse._ He found the keys dangling on the roof and picked them up. He looked at the door and felt a bit of worry that he’s get caught. But, at the same time, he felt like there was no turning back.
_”No turning back, Micheal...”_ he whispered to himself.
He slid the keys into the keyhole and turned it sideways to hear a click. He slowly turned the doorknob to open the door as he shut it behind him and let go of it.
      *He’s inside now.*
Micheal turned on the flashlight and began to search for anything resembling one of the two things he wanted. Something that will help incriminate William or something that holds deep meaning to William. One of the two will do nicely. He found pictures of loved ones, newspapers telling gruesome stories about missing children, and some other items that hold great value. Then, it was time. He had to search in _HIS_ room. He approached the door that he was sleeping in and reached his hand out to open the door. Then he stopped. He thought for a moment.
      _”What if I get caught...”_
_”What if I go to jail...”_
      _”What if he kills me...”_
He snapped out of it and told himself once again,
      _”No turning back, Micheal.”_
He slowly opened the doorknob after dimming his flashlight. He took a step into the room and saw him.
      *He saw the man himself.*
From this point of view, he almost seemed like a _man._
Micheal searching and scanned this room for 30 minutes. He found 3 items that he knew would be crucial to putting an end to him in court. A photo of himself in a costume with blood on the hand. A note telling himself to “Hide the body”. And last but not least, a photo of his son, Joseph with the words “I love you” written on the back with sharpie. He began to leave the room, but then he forgot to check one area.
      *Under the bed.*
He slowly approached him and lifted the covers to reveal a small basket filled with various items. He found another photo of himself in greyscale, a pink slip made by the Fazbear Entertainment company, and finally, a small VHS tape. The tape read “Memories” on the front. Micheal smiled a bit. This was MORE than enough to incriminate this monster. Micheal picked up his bag and left the room without waking him up. He closed the doors behind him as he got back into the car. After another long 15 minute drive back home, he yawned. After all, it was 2:00 AM now.
_He needed to get some sleep._
But, something about one of the items intrigued him.
      *It was the VHS tape.*
When he got the bag inside, he took the VHS tape into his room and approached the TV, where his VHS player was. He slid the tape into the player, turned on the lights, and turned on the TV. He selected the tape and it began to play.
“Hello, whoever you are. You just found a cassette tape hidden in my bedroom. Isn’t that strange? A man like _William Afton,_ someone so simple and plain, hiding a cassette tape. Why would he be hiding anything? I’m sure that, if you’re from around here, you’ve heard of the somewhat recent happenings with Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Three cases of one, one case of two. All of that adding up to the _“five missing children at Freddy’s.”_
      *That was me.*
I’ll elaborate on that later. And, y’know, I wouldn’t call myself plain, either. I mean, people may think I’m plain when they first meet me. Just a father taking care of himself and his kids, who tragically lost his youngest in ‘83, and supposedly got over it, right?
      *Wrong.*
And I’ll never get over it. And the fact that he died isn’t the only reason. You see, Micheal did it. Not a surprise, most people know that, but it wasn’t an accident. He keeps saying it was, but he’s a liar. He hates me. And he hated Joseph.”
_Micheal felt a cold chill go down his spine._
“You see, Micheal wasn’t settled with being a failure, and how I loved Joseph just so much more. So, he tormented him. Eventually, killing him. And, y’know, that’s why I didn’t love him in the first place, he was always a terrible kid, not worth my time. But now I hate him more than I ever have. He’s done so much more to hurt my soul in one day alone.
      _My god, Joseph...”_
      Micheal remembered that dreadful night...
      _The night of the bite._
“Ever since he killed him, I’ve wanted to *put my hands around his neck and squeeze the life out of his lungs,* but of course, if I ever did that, I’d get CAUGHT! I couldn’t work because I was thinking too much about Mike. I couldn’t concentrate on anything. The papers started piling up, and it kept fogging up my mind, and I needed a release.
      _Then I had an idea..._
Hey... maybe it doesn’t necessarily have to *be Micheal!*
_It could be any other brat as long as their like ‘em._
Now, where do all of those children go?
      *Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.*
And hey, if they’re like Micheal, _they deserve it.”_
Micheals front door made a click, but Micheal was paralyzed by fear in what the tape said, that he couldn’t hear anything else but his fathers words.
“I went up about 4 times. Picked the worst kids of the bunch, took them back, and *gave it to ‘em.”*
      _Footsteps approaching..._
“I couldn’t do much, of course, they’d start squealing. So, I made it quick enough to be efficient, *but long enough to make it last...”*
The footsteps moved from the first floor to the stairs.
_“It was hell for them, but Heaven for me._
“And...then I leave! *Without the slightest bit of guilt!”*
The footsteps approached the upstairs hallway.
“So, there you go. And now that you’ve heard this, you should know...that _I check this spot every day to see if this tape has moved._ I’ve seen it so many times, *I’ll be able to notice even the slightest difference.*
      _I_ *will* _know.”_
The door to the room opened behind Micheal.
“So, you’d better put it back, Micheal. _As nearly as you can..._ *and start running.”*
The VHS tape ended and all that was left was a black screen. Micheal saw the greyscale photo of William again on the screen on top of his reflection.
*Until the photo move and he whispered “I knew it...” behind him.*
_All he could think about was certain death._

The thing that spooked me the most, is the fact that he potraied those children to his oldest son and to his desire to see Michael dead. I can't even blame why michael started to bully his brother and how much his father made him feel bad about it and he had to leave with this trauma his whole life where he never recovered. Meanwhile his father made more fucked up shit as a revenge for Joseph's death, this was so realistic that actually freaked me out at the end. He was a teenager who was constantly pressed by his father violent behavior towards him and got influenced on how William loved way more his younger brother Joseph (refereed to the name of the tapes), while he was watching in the background the love he never had. Ofc a teenager gets jealous and influenced by such a manipulative behavior, I mean, what sibling never bullied their younger sibling at least once in their lives tho? The bite was still an accident, Michael couldn't predict that fredbear was gonna crush his skull and killing him, you can't really give the fault to michael since is william who made him a bully towards his brother and, I repeat, he was a teen. Yeah, he tried to repent and Joseph forgave him, but that doesn't excuse how CC died because of HIM. If Michael didn't show up at the party, the storyline would've gone kaput and nothing would've happened because William is genuinely afflicted at Joseph's death and, you know what happens. 5:23 this was the perfect spot to start fading spring trap in. The line “I will know” paired with the appearance of two white eyes and springtrap’s silhouette is so simple yet effective, it conveys the image and feel of a psychopathic murderer who is coming after you and no matter what you do, you can’t stop him. You’ve also gotta imagine this in Michaels pov, imagine that instead of a simple image of springtrap fading in, it’s a pair of white eyes and the sound of animatronic whirring as this part plays on the tape. That would be terrifying. This entire monologue is perfect. I bet it took Squimpus so long to find the perfect time to fade each photo in and out.

The sudden drop of the line “so you better put it back michael” when in the beginning he described him as “whoever you are” makes this much scarier because he knew that only michael would listen to the tape, i can just at that point picture michael listening up to that point and as the tape digresses to the line “so you better put it back michael” william enters the house and hears that bit of the tape pass, and then he paraphrases the line “start running” as the tape gets to that same point as william tries to find him, its truly scary

The scariest thing about this series is the feeling of unease and negative aura around these tapes. This one takes the cake as one of the more scarier ones.
The fact that William is so calm about admitting his crimes involving the Missing Children's incident just makes you think that he is pure evil. Right down to his very bone.
Not only that but he even told about his deepest darkest desire about murdering his own son, because he accidentally caused the death of Joseph(AKA. Crying Child).
Imagine being Michael and finding this tape, and hearing your own father talk about how he's always hated you, and how he wants to murder you, just because you accidentally caused the death of Joseph. I'd be pretty terrified too.

I honestly prefer this version of William Afton than the raving psychotic villain we got in the FNAF Movie or the mad scientist in the lore.
This version is frighteningly realistic. An abusive, narcissistic father who despises his eldest child for reasons only logical to himself. In turn, Michael bullies his little brother Joseph for years just to have some form of control in his life and in resentment for their father. Joseph on the other hand, was always the golden child that William loved unconditionally (presumably) for seemingly no reason. He's terrified of the animatronics, and Michael takes full advantage of it any chance he gets.
One day, Michael goes too far in his bullying. He, with the help of his friends, tortures Joseph by sticking his head near the one thing that scares him most. Next thing Michael knows, his brother goes limp and blood spatters on him and his entourage. He killed his own brother. Now he has to endure his father alone, never fully realizing the extent of his father's rage and hatred.
William goes on to brutally murder several children to clear his mind and keep himself from killing Michael. Not because its unjust, but because he knows he would be caught.
He then justifies his vile deeds on record, expressing the burning hate he feels for Michael, his own son. And has the gall to call Michael the monster, ironically incapable of acknowledging his own horrible actions. He is then haunted by the children he's killed and goes mental, accidentally killing himself years later and suffering the fate of his victims. Only through fire is this wretched creature ended.
(I personally don't include FNAF SL, 6, or SB in headcanon, as I feel that they bloated the story far past the original story. And I have not, nor do I intend to read the novels.)

Jesus dude, the thing about William is how horrifyingly confident he is in his ability to never get caught, the fact that in the tape he just says "That was me. I'll elaborate on that later." after explaining the recent missing children is terrifying. He casually summarizes his crimes as if he was admitting he broke his mom's vase at 8 years old, and just moves on to another subject. And he has every right to do so, he technically never got caught. Squimpus, you've outdone yourself and made William a tragic, yet utterly horrifying version of the man behind the slaughter. Kudos to you man. And that last line; "So you better put it back Micheal. As neatly as you can. And *start running."* Has to be the scariest and most efficient way of introducing Afton's personality into your canon. A cold blooded, nonchalant, mastermind murderer. Who has rigged this entire game in his favor.

Exactly. That's why I like Squimpus William *much more* than the canon one.
This is how always portayed him and wanted him to be. When I heard about him from the Sister Location I always imagined him to be a calmed, smart, manipulative mastermind. A puppetmaster who making people do what they don't want and messing with their minds and moral,
and make people think and believe what they shouldn't, because you never know if he say the truth or he just trying to manipulate you. He make people do the dirty work for him, but if he really need to he do it himself. He went trought terrible things what broke him ( like child abuse in the past or the death of his wife. ) and for this reason he fall between the uncanny valley of the understandable and sympathetic but also cold bloodingly terrifyng and brutal. From this video you can see, he manipulates Michael with his feelings because he knows he is unstabil, so he can easily pretend it was all Michael's fault and he will believe it and do what his father want. He knows Mike will follow what he said and can't run away or hide from him because he will catch him no matter what, he also won't dare to show the tape to the police for the same reason. He is enought scary, but he have feelings like anyone and his tragic past and his own flaws made him to be the person who is. It's cement the fact every coin has two side, like a well written villain. The cannon William doesn't give me this feeling at all, he is just super crazy, pure evil weirdo who can build impossible things out of the nowhere and in his entire life he killed kids for experiment on them to find the magical "immortality juice" to become immortal for an unexplained reason, which in every way sounds extremly ridiculous and unrealistic, needles to say it was a huge dissapointment for me. He is literallly on a level of a scrapped DC supervillain, but not even, the DC supervillains are actually have well maded personalities, goals and backstories. I feel like the cannon William was the one who ruined the FNAF the most, and of course the novels. Scott should built him up from his manipulative personality rather than his evil, jelalous personality and try to put too much edgyness and inhumanity in him to full the emptyness in his personality traits. This way no matter Scott try to distract our attention about he is a bad and lazy writer who didn't have time working out the main antagonist's persanlity, it's pretty clear for the ones who see trought it. And the biggest problem is that how he did it randomly and the worst way ever. His books what was far away from cannon story almost became cannon and completely changed everything, especially William who had the best chance to be a good villain in the FNAF 4-5 era when the games revealed who he is. But nooo, instead of that he made William the same character with Dave making tons of endless plot holes in the story. In my opinion this interpretation about him is way better than the offical. Who knew Squimpus isn't just a horror genius but also good story writer and a mind reader? :)
Edit: God.. why was my English grammar this bad?

    • @Lisa_Flowers
      @Lisa_Flowers Před 3 lety +1232

@Arnold Tatis-Algarin correction - his father was already a monster, William is likely just manipulating the listener into thinking this is Michael's fault. That's what abusers do. They create nonsensical justifications to excuse their actions and blame them on other people - usually their victims, and if they have kids, wives, family members, them as well. Michael likely wasn't an especially awful kid, and both him and Joseph were probably terrified of William for being abusive monster he has likely ALWAYS been. William did have a favourite - abusers usually categorize their kids as the 'golden child', who can do no wrong and receives 'love' (which is often also abusive) and the 'scapegoat' who is always at fault regardless of who committed the wrong. They do this because it is easier to justify your own behaviour by blaming one of the children (I'm not abusive, they're just bad!) And to pit kids against each other. The scapegoat often has the abusers worst traits and behaviours projected onto them. Joseph was clearly the golden child, and Michael was the scapegoat, and Michael likely felt resentful of Joseph's position. William is just twisting the narrative to make it seem as of what was clearly an accident was some sign of Michael being the true villain at fault of Joseph and all the kid's murders, when the real monster, William, gets off scot-free by painting himself as a wounded father victimized by his evil child. Joseph's death no doubt had an effect on him, but it certainly wasn't the 'reason' he became a monster. He likely always was. The rest is just manipulation.

What I love about this characterization of William is that even if he didn’t do the tragedy he was still an awful human being based on how emotionally abusive he was towards Micheal (saying he was a rotten awful kid even before the bite) and it makes Micheals bullying of CC a lot more understandable because its easy for Micheal to see CC as the reason his father hates him ultimately creating a cycle of abuse that feels far more real than anything peepaw could muster. Just amazing writing and voice acting all around ^^

I want to stress how good William's last line in the tape was. "I check this spot every day to see if this tape is moved,... So you better put it back Michael, as neatly as you can, and start running."
this line is scary but it is also the most clever line in any horror story i have ever heard.
If you were Micheal, Haunted with trauma and an abusive father, if you heard that line you wouldn't think "this is my father confessing to murder, i should give this to the police" you would say "Im fucked" out loud, Drop the tape, and sprint out the door.
Im not sure if that was intentional, if it wasn't this line is still good. but if it was, HOLY FUCK that is the most clever and subtle use of mental abuse that has ever been put on CZcams. This is the best fnaf fan made story ever and i am so excited for what you do next.
And if you are reading this, Have a good day :)

      @slitherywriter1711 Před 3 lety +21

I wouldn't liken Afton to the Joker but more so Yoshikage Kira. It's for very simple reasons. He's ruthless, doesn't regret any of his actions for a second, and most importantly he blends into a crowd. This portrayal of Afton describes himself as a seemingly plain man who lives a quiet life, nobody thinks anything of him at first glance. Which is the same outlook that is present with Kira. That's what makes both of these characters scary. On top of that, both characters look at their children with malicious contempt, their actions stain the environments they terrorized long after they were gone, and most damningly neither truly faced the repercussions of their actions. Neither were taken to a court of law and were killed in just as much silence as the victims they preyed upon.
