  • An owner review of the Benchmade 42 Balisong. The Holy Grail of butterfly knives. (My original one was stolen/borrowed by one of my son's friends. This one I received as a GIFT turned out to be a Fake, It weighed 5.5oz; too heavy for a titanium real one) The REAL 42 is still the best in my opinion.

I've had my BM 42 for almost 40 years. It's the non-spring T latch with the nylon belt sheath. I didn't realize how popular (and valuable) they are now.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but that's a fake/counterfeit Benchmade 42. Although it looks very similar to an actual BM42, the fakes usually have fainter tang markers, poor blade grinds, a spring latch with only a "mushroom" convex on one side (the real ones are convexed on both sides), and poor machining/welding marks on the insides of the channel handles. The box is not an authentic Benchmade box. An easy way to tell is to put a magnet right up next to the handles. If the magnet sticks, then it's a fake (because the fakes come with stainless steel handles, the real authentic 42 comes with titanium handles that are not attracted to magnets). They come from China and can easily fool most novice butterfly knife enthusiasts who aren't familiar with the Benchmade 42 already. I hope you did not pay more than $50-75 for it.

I actually own the one made BEFORE the “original” by the designer. Purchased at a knife show before they were mass produced. Just called Bali-Song.

If you send a knife to Benchmade and they don't give it back to you that's called stealing!

Thank christ I got one of these before it was discontinued. I have the weehawk model as well. I carry it every time I go out. One of my most prized possessions

    The best balisong ever!!

  • @edsthelion

I still have my Benchmade 43 t-latch I got in 2000. It still flips like a champ.

  • @the_hiroman

Sorry for the bad news, Hit Girl, those are not model 42. They do not have that weird serration at the back of the blade. Pretty sure they are not even Benchmade.

I love the fancy ones. But a classic is always the best! 👍

  • @lawrencelou3545

Why did they discontinued its production?? It was sheer perfection.. an improvement on the original Filipino design.. tougher .. sturdier . Wish they would bring it back..

Just contacted Benchmade and emailed a photo of my BM balisong. I have been told it's an original 42 model before the spring latch. Mint condition any idea of a value ?

I have a bench made balisong 42 with spring latch and the blade has 073/100 on the side. Any thoughts on the value?

I am buying a vintage 35 today, $150. I already have a friend that wants to buy it from me for $200 and I haven't even received it yet. These pieces truly hold their value. They can only ever go up is how I see it.
