I have worked in some of the largest organizations in India - one in the Fortune 500 list, and I found this message on "Trust" to be so relevant! Trust and Integrity are more important for sustainable success and overall team morale than just hollow business success parameters.
Thank you, Simon Sinek for reinforcing this belief.

In the eastern mind, performance and personal integrity is one and the same, that was how leaders were picked in the ancient times. In the western mind, you can performa at work and be totally be moral-less person and it is accepted. Just an interesting thought. Thanks for sharing Simon.

I grew up in banking when deregulation kicked in - we incentivized and based job performance on outcome numbers - exactly what Simon describes here. And guess what - corruption runs rampant with these types of systems. He is exactly on target here. the perfect opposite - weight loss, another lesson in my life. Can't cheat here mostly. You can set goals till the cows come home but to really lose the weight, you need to be doing the "behaviors" consistently day after day to truly see results.

I remember a manager of mine wayyyyy back saying if you want to be good at your job you need 2/3 of the following qualities: Be good at your job (quality of work- not implying being "bad" is acceptable but competent to excellent), be consistent (on time, overtime etc.), be personable (trust, likable, teamwork etc.). It's damn near impossible to find someone perfect in all three but 2/3 is pretty suitable- 1/3 no one will want to work with you 2/3 you have something to offer 3/3- You're probably a workaholic on the fast-pass lane to Burnoutsburg.

This is the complete opposite of how Sprint operates. All they care about is if you hit sales metrics, they don't care how you obtain them. They don't care about who you step on to get it, and in return they reward you. Its despicable. Whoever can fudge their metrics the best will eventually become management, and they will in turn teach their team to fudge metrics. They'll parade one of the highest earners who I found suspect and guess what? After an investigation, was caught committing sales fraud but yet they still parade him to everyone as who we should all aspire to be. People are so afraid of given the absolute that metrics MUST be hit that they'll do every low brow action to obtain them.
Walking prospects who aren't buying items to create higher margins. Sliding subscriptions under the table without the client knowing. "reduce and replacing" without disclosing it to the customer isn't sales, its just playing the system, and in the end, its just lying.
The company is near collapse and years of practicing these horrible metric management has destroyed a 100 yr old company in the past 20 years.
