It's a exciting opportunity for multiple reasons. The Wankel always seemed to have its torque peaks show up at the higher rpm, so if they have addressed the problems that you mention, it makes it perfect for aeronautics and power generation. I'll be watching for the commercial debut of this design and hope to see it succeed. 😊

It's different from a wankle engine and even has a modified combustion cycle... being rotary it revs naturally and freely but you can do a simple single step down gearing to the optimum for the generator ... And thereby increasing the torque if required but the whole idea is to generate a max current at the optimum motor speed.
Not asking it to stop start, slow down and Handle constantly varying loads and speeds which
Combustion engines are basically fundamentally inefficient at... even before you try resetting them to run off widely different fuels.
Look them up and read the engineering papers... but the photos tell their own story. But a 40hp vibration free efficient motor you hold in your hands..and can rebuild on a sailboat cockpit floor rather than needing a wheeled trailer and a crane to move gets my vote.

Because they do and the first thing most people do is start dragging in the RWEs limits.
It's a rotary engine with the advantages of the format plus it overcomes most of the problems. It's just what's needed in many off-grid hybrid power generation situations. Boat owners struggle with unreliable bulky heavy expensive diesels running through costly nasty inefficient noisy transmissions. Much better to leave the propulsion to e motors and develop a better lighter more efficient and cleaner multifuel generator to back up sail regen, solar and possible small wind turbines feeding into a more affordable and lighter battery storage system .
Boat hatches tend to be small and spaces awkward...so much so they call it boat yoga doing any maintenance work .. It also doesn't help if the whole worksite is moving around in a big swell.. 😂

That's a different ball game but it still works using the Stoichiometric optimum and relatively constant running advantages of an ICE motor generating power for more flexible and efficient electric motors ... it also forms the basis for most modern Azimuth pod drives and rim driven devices.
The bulk carriers are now using the technology but also deploying things like wing sails and kite sails. Plus the experiments with alternative fuels.
This is about removing the bulk , weight, inefficiencies and complexities and costs of producing conventional piston poppet valve engines.
The advantages these engines can deliver in small to medium large sized uses either direct or indirect generator use.
20% the wt and volume in a boat or trucks engine compartment is a vast advantage over the present engines. ..even the maintenance is simpler and less. There's other options as well like the Durham university opposed piston reciprocating generators. Though they still use poppet valves .. they in their
Simplest form are just a tube with a free piston rod being fired from one end to the other. With the generator field in the middle.

Still massively less than a conventional engine and a whole bunch of advantages over those engines... and there's always going to be places and times where you are going to need to augment your energy generation and storage systems.
Besides its been said already it's simpler to make uses less parts has less parts to wear out doesn't vibrate and is small and light ..
That just leaves the complex heavy messes we use now hanging space because they are
dead ends for most jobs. It's like using a bolt action target rifle to do what a Sten or Stirling machine gun can do better and for a fraction of the cost and in materials and time.

The larger the hydrocarbon molecule the more energy it contains.. if you can burn it efficiently.
The Liquid piston rotary engines seals are stationary .. they fit in cartridges and can be quickly changed like spark plugs without any other dismantling of the engine ..they also can be precisely metered for lubrication ..ordinary rotary engines move with the rotor so need more oil and wear rapidly. The seals used in the Liquid piston engines are the same as the Existing production car wankle engines ... they just cut them down.
Running as a generator motor they only ever has to run at one optimum speed , it's called the Stoichiometric optimum. .. it's on or off... So can switch fuels more easily . The energy is stored in a battery and the electric motor does the work without a need for gears, transmission, noise clutches or complex cooling and lubrication or much maintenance.. .producing maximum torque from switching on ... So more control...

The calorific value is higher and the fact that traditional diesels contained more Sulpher ..remember it's not a single distillate fraction it's a mixture...based on the composition of the original crude which can range from Heavy almost waxy crudes that have to be heated to flow to the lightest fractions like LPGs propane, butane etc. Methanol is a low polluter and is generally
regarded as safe to burn indoors .. and there are devices and portable generators that use it as their fuel. But it has a lower calorific value but it's easier to handle and less toxic than Ammonia... Both of which are under serious testing in heavy shipping and as cheaper ways of storing hydrogen.
